EA simply screwed up by not investing enough time/effort into Frostbite itself. A rigid engine meant primarily for FPS games, every new game had to hack its own features in. There ended up being no knowledgebase built for the damn thing, so knowing what features were added - and even how to use them - was a feat in itself. Interviews make it sound like the knowledge of many of the added features were practically stuck with the studio; sometimes, even solely in the mind of the dev who hacked t...
Tough line to walk, right? SWBF2 also tried the "pride and accomplishment" angle, and got absolutely wrecked for it. I'm NOT saying they are in the same ballpark, I'm just saying they are related scenarios & not all "accomplishment" is created equal. You certainly do need to work for things for there to be stakes, as being handed stuff isn't particularly fun. But when you start being able to attach a monetary figure to your time, in this case buying money v...
I mostly agree. The UI is bad, but largely manageable. I don't like the inventory UI or sorting options. I don't like that you can't quickly compare gear against what is currently equipped. I'd like more quick use options (ie while holding Y, hold another bumper/trigger to give another set of face button items). Also wish they had better map marker options, even just numbers so you could write your own notes about markers easier. And you could make them bigger, or blink, or do...
Yet another good reason for me to keep the game in offline mode unless I'm playing co-op. I find it so crazy you can't customize what parts of online you want. Co-op, yes. Messages, maybe. Invasions, no thank you. And 100% don't invade me while I'm playing co-op.
It's already annoying when one of you dies in order to re-join, and the fact invasions can happen when you're fighting a world boss just seems unnecessary. Though one person invaded while I ...
Here's the thing, though. They are going to see these as initial financial failures, but also as valuable feedback on what customers don't want. What NOT to do for a successful live service game.
There's too much money on the table for getting it right, and you have to assume, with enough time & money, they'll eventually make it work. Then they'll attach that to one of their massively popular IPs, and just make bank. I wish these kinds of games would...
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I agree. I didn't even like other "souls" games, but this one just...feels like one of the best games ever made. At least easily one of the best games I've ever played.
I've said aloud, to no one but myself, "this game can't exist" lol. Like, I've played 80 hours, I'm doing things underground, finding coffin rides to other underground areas, and I still have a huge part in the nor...
How punctual! :-p
Unsure. I would have agreed, but there is a physical box art that doesn't have the normally impossible to miss text detailing it is either a streaming or digital only game that doesn't include a cartridge. Also, I don't think steaming only games get physical releases. Digital codes, yes, but I don't think streaming - to this point, at least - has been buyable in a box.
Then again, sounds like a lot is unknown at this point. It would be really interesting if...
By looking at the video above, I don't get the impression they spent much time on this. And if they can get some new purchases, plus some double dippers, in for $10+, why not? I guess they felt their Scrooge McDuck vault needed to overflow a bit more. I assume this didn't take much, if anything, away from GTA 6. But it all points to the fact this should have been free in the first place.
(And, fwiw, the phrase is "intents and purposes", not "intensive...
Don't think that's entirely true. You can play arcade style games that have no story, and not having a story isn't a knock against those types of games. Not exactly applicable here, but it does show that it's all dependent. I think you can kind of take each game on a case by case basis to determine if it is an issue or not.
Elden Ring, for example, opens with a frankly baffling video that makes almost no sense, but it pretty much gets out of the way after th...
Game breaking bug that the devs said was fixed, but ended up still being present. Reviewer gave them several months to sort it out, so more than a fair shake. I was initially thinking 0/10 was unconscionably low, but tough to argue with the score after reading the issue & what they went through to give it a fair chance. What a shame.
1000%
You're right! I remember now back when they announced the delay initially thinking that a native version seemed crazy, but couldn't figure out why it was being delayed so long after finding out it was a cloud version. Fair enough on that point.
Still curious to see the DF breakdown, if they do one, on what performance mode on the S gives up in order to achieve 60fps.
I never mind being disagreed with, but am always left wondering what is being disagreed with when there's no discussion.
So I'm curious, for anyone who does disagree, what is it you disagree with? I'm not passive aggressively knocking the hardware, just genuinely curious what this game will look like on lower end hardware given how modest the resolution & settings are even on current gen top of the line hardware. (And the good luck thing was just a joke base...
Given the recent "outrage" over Aloy having what many were claiming was a "fat" face, it seems a lot of people have specific limitations on which curves are "accurately represented" lol.
I just looked at the mod examples, and other than not fitting the Skyrim aesthetic, are completely fine character models. Not overtly curvy either, as it turns out.
Companies usually try for a while, knowing they have a fight to gain marketshare. Zune lasted 6 years between announcement & discontinuation. Windows Phone lasted about 7 years. Stadia was only officially launched a little over 2 years ago, so they aren't dragging this out more than any other product or anything.
It's still a viable tech, I just think it's still too early. They are likely trying to find a niche to make it viable until the time is right. It m...
Really curious to see what they had to cut down to get it to run 60fps on Series S, given 60fps is limited to 1080p on the far more performant platforms.
I'm still trying to figure out how they're going to get this to run on Switch. It'll have to be a real low res I'd imagine. Maybe FSR can help a bit. I do wish them "good luck".
Exactly this. It would be like saying GTA V sold tons of games on every platform for not one, but THREE GENERATIONS & shown that people only care about old Rockstar games. Sometimes things sell better than others, yet all of them can be a success.
HZD had a long tail with 20 million sales. Good chance this will too. I don't think Sony are crying in their beers & deciding "whelp, our massively popular, profitable, well reviewed game has metrics one notch bel...
Really? That's surprising to me. I truly don't feel like this is anywhere close to Kirby Odyssey. I'm glad it's what you're looking for, though.
To the last point, at least, GameCube was definitely not behind its competition. It was more powerful than the PS2 in general (coming out a year later did help on that front). Both were less powerful than Xbox, but GameCube was easily in the mix power-wise that generation. It was really the Wii that started Nintendo down the path of devaluing performance.
