Sure, I got you:

“I find it completely counter to what gaming is about to say that part of that is to lock people away from being able to experience those games. Or to force someone to buy my specific device on the day that I want them to go buy it, in order to partake in what gaming is about. Gaming is bigger than any one device…”

It's strange. I'm not salty, but I am a bit bummed to realize a couple things. Primarily, they made the NVMe with its speed & Kraken compression sound as if it would offer devs abilities to create games and worlds they never could before. But with basically every game slowly coming to PC, they can't make anything that truly relies on it. PC certainly would have fast enough drives by now, but they are expensive & the number of users would be too low for it to be commerciall...

To each their own. By the time RoS came out, I thorougly enjoyed playing D3 with my friends. Probably played it for 1,000 hours. As long as they don't get gross with monetization (which is obviously a concern), I'll still be cautiously optimistic about D4. If D4 doesn't cut it, that feels kinda like the last straw. Think I'd have to write Blizzard off for dead at that point.

I had the exact same reaction. I assume he meant "it's where our gamers spend the most time (interacting with UI)", but without the clarification it just sounds like they turn on the XBOX and stare at their homepage for hours at a time lol.

@EvertonFC

I don't buy his argument. Just because you *can* afford to spend more doesn't mean you *should* happily do so. The companies doing it most are the ones who are most financially secure, who have billions of dollars. They're the ones giving guys like Bobby Kotick billions in personal wealth. Game prices were clearly fine, as seen by the overstuffed profit lines many companies were showing. And their whole excuse for putting micro & macro transaction...

I don't think this is going to be free. Pretty sure this is their first actual expansion, which they will want some dosh for.

"Sony will keep pretending like they have a game plan to compete"...shocked you got nothing but upvotes, given you just essentially said that Sony is pretending they can compete.

These sales, while potentially great, really struggle to be valuable given you can't easily parse what games are in stock. You can't just say "only show what is online & what are in my nearby stores". Probably 60-75% of these games in these massive lists are out of stock for shipping, and out of stock locally. It makes it a chore to find anything you'd want, much less 4 of them, much less enough if you wanted to get to a free shipping tier. It's a bummer.

No Paper Mario, Geist, or Eternal Darkness is surprising. Games like Second Sight can at least be played on other platforms, but some of those games are exceedingly expensive (should you want to play them on original hardware). I've got a handful of them, but Gotcha Force will sadly never end up in my collection at $700 for a CIB copy.

This dude is all over the place. And on the ond hand, I get it. As a top level executive, not thinking about monetizaion would be idiotic because you're beholden to shareholders. However, smaller devs are more beholden to players, and poorly handled monetization can sometimes be the death knell for them.

But he also equates monetization to understanding player desires and gameplay loops. He also says things like:

Can't help but notice there were 8 comments in here when I posted mine, and 1 of them are of you talking about Sony fans, and another mentioning their "blind bias". 25% of the discussion, but I couldn't find one other post that mentioned this, so it kinda comes off a bit like someone is looking for a salt lick that doesn't exist.

Not sure the intention, but it honestly comes across like you're the one feeling good about there being a game better th...

Oddly enough, one of my best friends really enjoys playing this game to just kinda zone out to. I can't imagine this really doing much for me, but (surprisingly) there is an audience out there lol.

I think there's more to it than that. I've played many of the SoulsBorne series and never got into them. I haven't fallen for hype since I bought into GTA IV after being sure I wasn't going to care for it, bought it Day 1, played a bit, and was reaffirmed to trust my gut over perfect scores and overwhelming praise.

As for Elden, I wasn't even going to play it, even after all the hype, under the assumption I wouldn't like it. A friend bought it for me...

"Man, after finding restaurant would charge for silverware, finishes eating his plate of spaghetti using only his hands. More at 11"

It isn't that it's something that *cant't* be done, but rather that it makes the process less fun & more tedious than it would have been otherwise.

For some it is. At launch, I expect more people felt that way. It also had tons of technical issues back then, at least on PC. I tried it after the New Horizons expansion later last year. I found the campaign enjoyable enough, even if not an amazing one. The gameplay was pretty fun, the story was pretty pants (but how many games can say otherwise lol). Still had some bugs even then, though.

I've no idea what is in the newest expansion, but if it ever piqued your interes...

They probably could have, but all news is good news for attention, so why not let the news cycle churn up trash for a while and get that sweet extra spotlighted attention? Perhaps it'll help them pick up an extra sale or two.

And indeed the media is trash. Though we commenters tend to be no better. This time, there was much hand wringing over censorship, and that this kind of thing is freedom of speech and takedown overreach, don't like it, don't play it....blah...

Perhaps for a gaming journalist, or those who frequently attended these events in person, no E3 feels like a loss of some kind. For me, even as a keen game news reader, it changes little. Sure, we'll miss neat little moments where crowds go wild over an announcement, maybe lessens the chance for cringe, things like that. But I'm simple. I've always been more interested in talking about reveals and stuff with friends, I don't need much bombast.

This also allo...

I'm not really sure what to think, honestly. I feel odds are this will likely be a Death Stranding typed "exclusive" deal. What gives mild pause is that "partnership" is the only real word I've seen so far from them, and it's the same word Kojima Productions used in their tweet about reaffirming their relationship with PlayStation ("very good partnership"). Not entirely sure what partnership entails. Exclusive? Publishing? Support?

They brought id guys on back on Fallout 4 to help with gunplay, and it helped....to a degree. But the issue isn't the talent there, I think it's that they are stuck using the Creation Engine. This is already an 11 year old engine, which is apparently based on Gamebryo which - if I'm seeing this right - was launched in 1997.

Within all that time, it doesn't appear any shooting games were made with Gamebryo. Appears it was a primarily RPG focused engine. I...

You're right, saying middling was a little harsh. I should have gone with polarizing. Some people really liked it, other's didn't. VR reviews were generally positive, user reviews were kinda all over the map. It currently sits at mixed on Steam, but some of that is probably a move from "mostly positive" down to mixed from flat screen not being the best transition.

That said, I was surprised enough that Sony put one of their biggest franchises in the ha...
