CPU: Custom 8 cores / 16 Threads Zen 2 CPU:
Very likely to be true.
GPU: Custom NAVI @12+ teraflops:
If Navi is still limited to 4096 streaming processors (which it likely is because it's still GCN architecture) than it'll need a clock of 1465Mhz to reach 12TF. I think that might be achievable with a good cooling solution even though it's pure speculation at this point without knowing the TDP of Navi. 4096 SPs would mean no redundancy though so...
I'm gonna toss my hat into the ring and predict a flat 90 for the fun of it.
That's impressive. I'm curious to see how custom animations can be created in Dreams as it'll probably be one of the most challenging aspects of creating ambitious projects in Dreams.
Oh. I didn't pay attention to the headlines. They don't specifically mention God of War 2 in the paragraph only in the headline. I guess they used the wrong picture then.
-60fps is too real.
-30fps feels more natural.
What?
I think that we should see more official support for mouse and keyboard gaming when next gen consoles hit. Some games are already using matchmaking based on input device.
The game they used in the comparison is God of War 3 which came out in march 2010.
I used to get this monthly PC games magazine in the early to late 2000s that had a segment on the last page containing a short summary of gaming 10 years ago. I remember seeing floppy disk-based games on there from the early 90s like Day of the Tentacle and Doom while in real time games like Half-Life 2 and GTA Vice City were about to coming out.
I also remember the first time games started to appear in that segment, that I had played back in the day like Age of Empires and...
Could you elaborate? I don't see how Microsoft being the bigger company matters when Sony is selling more of AMDs chips through to the consumer. Both companies are way over the size threshhold to make mass production deals with AMD.
If they are aiming for the same release timeframe and price they'll be very similar in terms of hardware.
Yeah. The Sony stuff seems to be pulled out of thin air as far as I can tell. Seems like some jounalists took the guesswork of some random tweets and ran with it.
Yeah they'll probably have very similar hardware if they'll release in the same timeframe and price range. Also talking about evidence based assessments, from what I've seen there is nothing in this leak that suggests this being related to playstation. The specs fit a console and it's possible that it's the PS5 chip but I don't see anything pointing specifically in that direction.
What makes you think it's not Zen 2? I only see them going for Zen+ over Zen 2 if the yield rates are too low and they really want to launch in 2019.
@KickspinFilter: I'm afraid you might be right. I think it's more likely that they'll lock the old gens behind a subscription service which would be a shame especially when it's streaming only. One can hope though.
@anonymousfan: That's where Navi comes in. Vega is a relatively inefficient architecture in terms of performance/watt which forced AMD into using the much more expensive HBM2 to mitigate some of it. If Navi fixes that issue they can go ahead with GDDR6. This would bring the cost down quite a bit and make it viable for the use in game consoles.
Well I assume they got cut early on so it'd take a lot of work to get them to a level where they'd be of acceptable quality. I gotta say as much as I liked the new God of War I wish they would've gone for a more traditional linear level design. That way we probably would've gotten more interesting enemies and bosses and probably more felshed out realms.
Looks like the Radeon VII might be in trouble.
"- It's $100 cheaper than the MSRP of the 2080."
True. But you can get a RTX 2080 for 700 so the msrp doesn't really matter. We'll have to wait and see how much the retail VII will actually end up costing before we can make any real comparisons in that regard.
"- Benchmarks show that it can reach and even outperform the 2080."
Again we have to wait for unbiased benchmarks to come out before we can make a comparison. But I th...
Cathy Newman is that you? /jk
Saying "Good games don't need multiplayer" doesn't imply that games that have have multiplayer are bad. That's a formal fallacy.
Agreed. It's still a question worth answering considering From Software's track record.
I mean it's absolutely possible that they'd make a console SKU for the absolute top end enthusiasts but these specs just don't fit together very well if that was the case.
