Cool game. I still have it. I'm planning to replay it soon.
It's possible that they'll make all the games inhouse. It'll be mostly very simple games and remakes of classics. If I wanted to make a Lode Runner remake it'll take me about a day in terms of programming. If someone is good at spritework I assume it'll be a day or 2 of work depending on the complexity of the animations they are going for. Sound should be very quick as well. Overall you can probably make the whole game in a week if you keep it relatively close to the origi...
They should get rid of the controllers and replace them with simple retro controllers. I don't need a touchscreen, a gyroscope, a microphone and a speaker for some retro game remakes. Also $149-$179 is way to much for this.
I like the ability to download additional games through an online store (a feature Nintendo and Sony should've implemented in their mini consoles) however unless the internal team is going to develop all the games I don't see this working ou...
For anyone interested in netcode, I recommend the youtube channel Battle(non)sense. He does some great netcode analysis for a number of games. If you just want to understand the basics he has a video called Netcode 101: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
I'm interested to see what the general consensus is even though I frequently disagree with it. When it comes to reviewers I only listen to a handful of them that happen to align with my gaming tastes the most.
It would probably help to you read more than the headline. Dan Houser (head writer on Red Dead Redemption II) is saying that the 100 hour/week comment was in relation to the senior writing staff consisting of 4 people. Mike Unsworth, Rupert Humphries, Lazlow and Dan himself worked for roughly that much over a 3 week period as they always do when they are wrapping things up. They've been doing this voluntarily because they are passionate about the project and more importantly haven't a...
It's hard to work in the game industry as a dev. Everybody involved knows that. I agree 100 hour weeks is too much but if you've ever worked on a passion project you probably didn't do 40hours a week either. As long as the employees are loving their work, are getting paid for the extra work and get a couple of days off occasionaly so they don't burn themselves out I don't see the problem with working 60 hour weeks.
As a matter of fact games like these w...
It's one of the highest budgets in video game history. It takes a very experienced director & team to be able to handle such a project (and even then there are no guarantees). I assume that they've bit off more than they can chew. Stuff like the Legatus Pack (>$20.000 to unlock everything in the game) make me think that they haven't managed their finances properly or are just trying to be greedy and take advantage of some whales.
Squadron 42 was originall...
@Jinger: That's a good point. But arcades are a completely different monetization model to begin with. It's more comparable with renting games than buying games at full price for your personal home console.
Haha I think you kept that food analogy going for a little too long but I get what you mean and mostly agree. And I think that most old school "core gamers" agree as well beacuse we remember a time:
-when a game came out and there was no way to fix it later with patches.
-when add-ons actually enhanced an already complete and polished game.
-when ingame costumes and exp boosters were unlockables and cheatcodes instead of paid dlc.
-and a time when...
This is just how Kojima does it. To understand why people are hyped about these trailers and why his fans are willing to search for the smallest hints in them you need to first understand Hideo Kojima's legacy. He likes to give his dedicated fans some tidbits but he also like to use them as a red herring. When asked by Jordan Vogt-Roberts for advice how he should go about making the MGS movie Kojima said: "Do the same thing as me, betray your audience.".

They are making the right moves towards next gen but it's too early to celebrate. Buying talent isn't enough. They need to give the creative people freedom to create something they are passionate about. If they go about it dictating them what to do it probably won't turn out the way they want.
I generally agree but backwards compatibility is a bit of an exception in my opinion because the purpose of the bc-feature is to expand the games catalogue of the console. In a sense it's the only feature that counts more towards the "games" side than the "feature" side.
There is no need to speculate about this. Just download some older driver versions do some benchmarks and see for yourself. If you find something to confirm your belief post the benchmarks online.
From what I've seen the people that have done this couldn't confirm the allegations. But if there is any truth to that you might be the first person to provide solid evidence. If you're wrong you can stop worrying about Nvidia gimping your card. Win-win.
It depends on what I want in that moment. I'd say I have a minimum requirement of gameplay not standing in the way of enjoyment and graphics not standing in the way of me understanding what I'm looking at.
A game doesn't need to be a masterpiece of gamedesign and mechanics if the setting/story and/or music/artstyle are intriguing.
A game doesn't necessarily need a story at all if the gameplay-loop is fun.
The artstyle ...
@parris: No I meant the marketing was segmented geographically. There were and to a lesser extent still are games that are only marketed towards the japanese market. Due to the fact that the Xbox has historically sold poorly in japan those games were often PS3 exclusive even though I agree that the incentive for Xbox 360 ports was much bigger in the 7th gen due to it being succesful especially for bigger franchises like Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, and Souls.
I just don...
@SolidGear3 What developers/ games would you say got "westernized"?
Haha. Well in this specific case I totally understand that the user might be hyped about the feature. Are there really that many poopcakes though?
I just want backwards compatibility on PS5 that isn't tied to a subscription.
Base PS4 version also has framerate issues but at least it runs at 1080p. Hopefully Rockstar can improve the framerate post launch.
