I know. The fact that it takes them so long has deservedly resulted in them being ridiculed for this. It doesn't make the feature itself more exciting though.

I wouldn't say that last gen lacked great japanes games though. They just weren't as successful as they are now which is likely due to a more segmented marketing back in the day. It's good to see that more japanese game series get more marketing in the west nowadays. Just look at Yakuza, Persona, Nier and Souls/Bloodborne this gen and compare it to last gen. It's a drastic difference.

Edit: At least ist a perceivable difference in the general gamer's aw...

The hype that has built around a simple name change feature is cracking me up. This is almost as funny as the doom and gloom articles around Sony's cross play stance to me.

But if gamers really want it so badly I'm all for Sony allowing it. I just can't comprehend why people are making such a big deal about these things to begin with.

I noticed immediately that the PS-Store opens faster and the whole ui is more responsive in general. The only slight negative I noticed is that the web browser displays at a lower resolution if you switch between apps and the browser or between different tabs for a second or 2.

If they make a Nintendo 64 classic they need to add the option to remove the atrocious AA horizontal blur filter the console had.

Compatibility has gotten worse over the years. There is pretty much always a way to make it work but having to deal with custom dxwrappers, tools like dgVodoo, custom game patches, virtual machines and Dos emulators is quite honestly annoying.

Then again if such a PC classic box would exist someone would still have to figure out how to overcome those issues and potentially need to run multiple OS kernels through vms to do that anyway. Sounds like a fun project though.

People were heavily criticising the game long before it even came to Xbox. The game got hate for a lot of legitimate reasons that have nothing to do with console wars:

1. Despite making a huge amount of money it took them forever to fix some of the glaring issues with the game. The servers tickrate has only been optimised a month ago despite the game's 1.0 version being out for 9 month now.
2. The devs have been claiming to have invented the Battle Royale genr...

Goes to show how much of a mess categorisation can be. It doesn't really matter to me personally how a genre is "officially" defined. When I look at games like Final Fantasy, Persona, Chrono and Ni no Kuni I see enough similarities to put them in the same box. When I compare these games to Souls games they seem radically different.

But then again you can probably gradually get there by filling the gap with a couple of "in-between" games that are a li...

My biggest problem with those classic console remakes is that there is no built-in way to get more games on the system. They should've either made them compatible with the original game discs and cartridges or make a online store and add additional games as time goes by.

Besides they need to nail the A/V emulation and upscaling (which is not easy to do) while having low imput lag. Not having analog sticks on the Controllers is already a huge let down.

Like that was ever even up for debate. Singleplayer games have always been successful alongside multiplayer games.

I've replayed it a year ago. Graphics are phenomenal, core gameplay mechanics are solid and weapons are interessting. The setting and story is intriguing. The real problem comes from very little player freedom in my opinion. If they opened some of the areas up for exploration a little bit, give the player some alternative paths with more freedom in weapon choice and fixed the boss battles it could've been an awesome game. I definitely want R@D to have another shot at this franchise.

I couldn't wait any longer for them to release a remaster with trophies for the PS4 so I started a new game on my PS1 (playing on CRT TV). Having a great time.

I'm playing FFVIII right now. It's so damn good. FFVII, VIII and IX are all masterpieces. The PS1 era was the golden age of Final Fantasy.

@UltraNova: I know that's a problem for a lot of people. I think the hardest thing to overcome between modern and oldschool 3D games are the controls and I could totally see how they could be very offputting for some players today. For some reason I get used to the wonky controls of old school games very quickly and can focus on all the amazing parts instead.

It's hard to put the finger on what exactly makes me enjoy these old school games so much but part of it is tha...

Well overall I have a lot of consoles. From this gen it's only PS4 and PC though because of the reasons mentioned above. The point is that I know I'm missing out on some great games this gen because I don't have a Nintendo Switch but I'm also kinda missing out on games that I theoretically could play on the platforms I already have. I've been playing games for 25 years now and I'm trying to catch up on some classics that I've missed along the way.

The thing is I'm incredibly backlogged for years to come. I'd really like to get a Switch mainly for Odyssey and Breath of the Wild but since I've literally have dozens of games that I really want to play on the platforms I already own, the urge to go out and buy a new console isn't really that high right now for me.

Came here to say exactly this. Sadly it seems unlikely seeing that Spider-man is such a success and Insomniac has expressed interest in creating more marvel games. The team is big though and they've managed to work on multiple projects in the past so there is still some hope left.

The problem was that it felt a little rushed in some aspects. It had the best movement and traversal though imo. Infamous 1 and 2 had the better story though and 2 has the best soundtrack by far. They are all great games overall.

Awesome. These past few weeks have been amazing for me in terms of retro games. Desperados 3, Streets of Rage 4 and now a new Samurai Showdown game.
