I think you're right. The real questions are whether we get full backwards compatibility for PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4, with PS3 being the biggest question mark. The other is whether digital bc will work right away (I'm sure if it isn't available form day 1 it'll be added at a later date).

A silent console is easily possible if they prioritise it over a small form factor. The heat sink just needs to be big enough. An external power supply would also help as it would take one heat source out of the console and make more room for a better colling solution at the same time.

Instead of going for an SSHD it would make more sense to go for an HDD + M.2 storage combo and use a tiered storage system like StoreMI as it is much more efficient than an SSHD. I'm not...

@bluefox: Are you responding to some hypothetical comment I've never made? I'm somewhat confused.

Some people don't seem to understand that there is a time delay between cause and effect in the games industry. I think if you look at where Xbox was 6 years ago and where it s now it's clear that Phil has done a lot of work. On the other hand MS hyped him up too much early on and he might've tried to turn the ship too fast. I can definetily understand the disappointment of Xbox fans after the cancellation of titles like Scalebound, the Phantom Dust remake, Project Spark and Fable...

Same here man. 49 days to go. Good thing I'm always backlogged so time flies by.

Why Vega? It makes no sense unless they really wanna release this year which would probably mean that 7nm yields aren't good enough yet. Vega on 14nm with GDDR6 is really gonna make power efficiency a problem.

Also can you explain your proposed Ram configuration? What are those seperate 8GB of VRAM when you already have 12GB of GDDR6?

The last 2 weeks I've spent a lot of time researching price trends and console manufacturer discounts of past hard...

@Notellin: No.

@jukins: Even if it did compare favorably to Nvidias Turing cards I'd hardly call that a success. The only selling point of the RTX cards is raytracing because it's rasterisation-performance compared to Pascal is definitely not worth the price. The only reason AMD decided to throw the VII on the market is to bridge the gap for Navi to arrive. Vega was highly disappointing to the point that AMD even dropped the Vega name from this card even though it&#...

Sarcasm? I can never tell with you.

This card is dead on arrival.

Agreed. I still like to analyze the rumours, leaks and statements and come up with my own speculations though.

Japan studio, Sony Santa Monica and San Diego studio are set up differently than the other studios in that they are splitting off to collaborate with external development teams regularly. It's not really possible to say how many teams they have because of their dynamic structure.

Naughty Dog had experimented with 2 teams working on seperate AAA projects simulataneously during the end of the PS3 gen but since returned to a more traditional structure of having one main te...

@UltraNova: I'm no expert in this movie streaming field so tell me if I'm wrong but weren't most if not all of these services meant to be subscription based streaming services from the get go? Nothing is gonna "kick in" to correct that no matter how much competition there is as long as the consumer is not demanding an alternative that isn't subscription based. And as far as I know there are alternatives out there that aren't subscription based. At the very least ...

@UltraNova: Well as a consumer I don't mind having an additional platform if it means that the publishers I support get bigger returns enabling them to take greater risks with the projects they fund. Ultimately I'm more interested in getting more of the games I like to play than the convenience of having a single digital library and all of my friends on the same list.

I think the positives far outweigh the negatives in this case. And worrying whether these services ...

Having a small team seperate from the main team to work on pre-production of another project is pretty standard procedure in the industry (for bigger teams) and doesn't mean they have 2 or even 1.5 teams. Most dev teams have around 80-90% of their team working on their main project at a time. If you'd want to put a number on the amount of teams per studio you'd be closer to 1.1 - 1.2 in most cases.

The "second team" will need to pitch their project to...

Bend, Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog and Media Molecule are still working on their PS4 projects. Dreams will probably be a cross gen title because they'll want to have an active community for years to come though this might also be a non-issue if the PS5 is backwards compatible from day 1.

The rest of Sony's studios (+ some external studios in collaboration with Sony) are probably already working on PS5 titles.

@Servbot41 & Ultranova: The 88/12 split is potentially huge. The transition phase will be messy because the userbase isn't there yet for the epic store. But the userbase won't come if the publishers won't make the first step. I doubt many publishers are willing to be among the first to abandon steam's user base for a better deal with epic but once a critical mass is reached it could cause a positive feedback loop that forces steam to reevaluate their business model. In the...

@UltraNova: You shouldn't compare FLOP/s across different GPU generations. FLOP/s are an idealised mathematical expression of the theoretical peak performance of a given GPU. In a real world scenario no GPU ever achieves that theoretical peak over a prolonged period of time. More efficient GPU architectures, and APIs can help get closer to that mark though.

You also have to keep in mind that the Xbox One X is just over a year old now. I don't know how much more perf...

@JesusBuiltmyHotrod: "Sony has way more and more accomplished studios"
Yeah. I don't see why you felt the need to point that out. I wasn't challenging that at all. It's absolutely obvious to anyone paying attention that Sony is far ahead of MS when it comes to both quality and quantity of 1st party titles.

"they don't need to do anything, MS is playing catch up. "
And what do you think will happen in the long run when MS...

@UltraNova: Yeah I think they have 15 active studios right now, 12 of which are working on Playstation games. But they've also lost 2 studios in Guerrilla Cambridge and Evolution recently. It takes a long time to develop games nowadays. While the studios they have will continue to pump out quality exclusive games they just can't have the same quantitative output they used to have. I think it makes a lot of sense to keep investing in the first party structure to ensure that there are a...

With MS investing a lot in new first party studios lately I think that Sony wants to make their fanbase know that they aren't resting on their laurels. I'm sure the'll announce it at some event this year.

Yeah 1TB SSD doesn't give you more power. It just makes your console extremely expensive. How would MS even market such a console design when the PS5 could have:

1. The same SSD speed with a 256GB SSD (enough for 2-3 big AAA games you are currently playing).
2. More overall storage space by installing a 2TB HDD.
3. And still be $100 cheaper.
