@shaggy2303: I agree there won't be a 60fps standard but I've no doubt that we'll see the norm shift more towards 60fps games next-gen. We are already seeing more 60fps games this gen and with higher resolutions hitting diminishing returns I could see more devs willing to invest those recources into higher framerate instead.
VRR might also play a role as it gets more common on TV panels. We might see more games running with unlocked framerates.
“When we’ve dabbled with backwards compatibility, I can say it is one of those features that is much requested, but not actually used much,” - Jim Ryan
He was talking about backwards compatibility. Even if he focused on PS1 and PS2 titles. That's half of the Playstation catalogue right there. I'm sure that most people that want bc want it for PS1 and PS2 also (I definitely want it). It's also not the fact that he criticised them for their ancient looks that is c...
In my opinion the breakthroughs have to come from the tools. Game development has scaled up to a point where hundreds of people are working in a AAA game for 5+ years. Better tech always results in a more complex workload which means more man-hours are invested to achieve the same goal. This raises the budget of the games. The higher the budget the higher the risk meaning more publishers are inclined to play it save.
Even if continuing to raise the budget indefinitely would...
The latency-problem could be mostly eliminated if companies start heavily investing in having more cloud-computing serverfarms on the map effectively reducing the distance between the server and client.
Another big problem is the image quality. Cloud gaming companies mostly recommend minimum bandwidths of around 5Mbit/s. The highest quality stream is commonly around 20Mbit/s.
Let's take a look at the uncompressed video bandwidths you get from your loc...
If you don't want to get too hyped because you're afraid of disappointment that's on you to set your expectations right. I for one am comfortable, being hyped for this.
Hideo Kojima has created some of my favorite games of all time. Him finally working on a new IP after such a long time is more than enough to make my hype go through the roof. As a bonus the setting of Death Stranding is right up my alley. I am the type of person that is binge-watching PBS Space...
@Automatic79:
Which one is more likely?
1. It's simple math and porting Yakuza to Xbox would obsviously be a huge success. Sadly the chairmen at Sega are collectively suffering from dyscalculia and thus are unable to make the right decision.
Or:
2. You aren't taking all the factors into account.
I'm certainly no expert but I know that simply focusing on the expenses & revenues isn...
I'd love it if they went back to a more simplified hub world and put a lot more effort into towns.
Yeah. It sucks that he always has to do the things that define his games. He should really make a game with a simple, straightforward story. While we're at it why don't we ask Clive Barker to write a light-hearted romance novel or Iron Maiden to scale back the guitar riffs. It just sounds too agressive. Some Harps might be good don't you think?

There is no point for them to compete with their own Windows platform. I don't think they are worried about selling consoles very much. Console manufacturers only make a minority of their revenue on hardware sales anyway. They'll keep offering consoles as a value alternative to gaming PCs. As far as I can tell the plan is something along the lines of:
1. Lower the barrier to entry for gaming and as a result, grow the gaming market as a whole (That's why they'...
"Unless there are another line of upgrades to PS4 or XB1 we're getting next gen in holiday 2019."
Well reading the full transscript doesn't really make it sound like anything new is launching this year. It just seems like their semi-custom business is always spiking in the 3rd quarter. That's probably due to the fact they Sony/MS are ramping up production for the holidays season.

I thought it looked alright from what I've seen. I had 0 interest in the game when they were advertising the cloud processing multiplayer but some things I've heard about the SP at least made me somewhat curious. Gonna check out some reviews and then decide whether to pick it up or not.
@MrSec84: I've just checked AMD's financial reports of 2013 and it looks like they've had a semi-custom growth in Q3 and the consoles came out in the end of November. The way it was worded by Lisa Su would suggest that the semi-custom business growth would happen going from Q2 into Q3 so it sounds like they might start shipping right at the start of Q3.
"And semi custom, although it's lower on a year-over-year basis, we would expect it to also increase ...
@MrSec84: A growing semi-custom business in Q3 doesn't mean it's related to Playstation. And even if it would be that would fall right on target with a March 2020 release. It's extremely unlikely that they could manufacture enough consoles for a 2019 release date if the apu shipments start in Q3 of 2019.
With the PS4 Pro they didn't need anywhere close the manufacturing volume they'll need with the PS5.
7nm being ready for console prod...
I think it's save to assume that at least one of these will also be a 2019 title. If I had to guess I'd say Ghost of Tsushima has the highest chances of coming out this year because it has been in development for almost 5 years now.
Dreams will probably also come out this year.
Switching to the 7nm fabrication node will make a 2019 release extremely unlikely. I think they could make late march 2020 in the best case scenario. If yields don't improve fast enough they'll probably release in September 2020 (25th anniversary of the original Playstation) or November 2020 to have a brand new console out for the holiday season.
There aren't many good value options for entry-level to mid-range gaming PC builds at the moment. The Nvidia 16 series will probably offer some better options for people wanting to build a PC for around $1.000 but I think that Navi might be a serious upgrade for builds in that price range.
The higher-end Navi cards will probably launch in Q3.
While I agree that they shouldn't have pulled the game off steam after letting people preorder it I can also understand why they wanted to do it.
I don't think that 4000 people review-bombing the Metro games represent the "PC crowd". I get why people that preordered the game on steam are frustrated but review-bombing the old games is such a childish reaction. To be fair I've seen people review bomb games on steam for much less than this.
An Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will probably cost them a little under $30 that alone won't warrant a seperate SKU. I also doubt that the demand for a discless console would be big enough to be honest but who knows. On the other hand I know some people that don't have a disc-drives in their PC so who knows.
What do you mean by modular console? Are you suggesting an upgradable APU and DRAM?
I've just recently replayed it again. It's one of my favorites. The order of my top 3 always changes but it's always comprised of VII, VIII and IX.
