This will probably be a turning point for AMD. Ryzen is now the better choice compared to Intel's counterparts in the vast majority of use cases. They've extended their lead in productivity workloads and have closed the gap in single-threaded performance and IPC. The only major thing that's left in Intel's favor now are clockspeeds (which is mostly due to the fact that they've been optimising the same fabrication node for 5 years).

After the pre-release ...

He probably alludes to the fact that Team Ninja is owned by Koei Tecmo and From Software by Kadokawa Corporation. The article also mentions Rocksteady which is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Theoretically Sony could buy one of those studios out If the parent companies are willing to sell them. I doubt that they are interested in selling especially in the case of Rocksteady and Team Ninja.

In the case of From Software I've just...

What do you mean they normally don't do this? This is nothing but their usual Ti releases rebranded with a new fancy name. The only difference is that the Super cards come in much cheaper than the original MSRP of the standard cards which is unusual but not surprising considering their revenue fell off a cliff after the launch of the Turing consumer cards.

This would've been a good performance/$ to have in fall 2018 when the cards originally launched. Nobody would&#...

These chips would exist either way to improve yields.

The 2060 for example uses a cutdown 2070 chip (TU106). That way they can salvage more dies from a wafer.
The 2080 uses a TU104 and didn't have a cutdown version so they would have to throw away each chip that didn't meet the quality of a 2080. To avoid that they are using the chips in the 2070S. Traditionally this would've been the 2070Ti. The 2060S is just an inbetween version of TU106 dies that are...

@nucky64: Housemarque aren't doing arcade titles anymore. They weren't profitable enough to continue. Their new game "Stormdivers" looks generic to me so I wouldn't say they're a good acquisition right now.

@DarXyde: I think in the case of From Software it's a matter of how much Sony would want to pay them. From is one of the most critically acclaimed studios in the world right now but while their games are profitable I doubt the numbers are hi...

@Christopher: My question is what does Remedy offer that isn't already covered by the other 1st party studios? Yes the games you've mentioned aren't the same but they do have certain similarities. They are cinematic, narrative-driven single player games. To a less important degree they are 3rd person games. That of course doesn't mean that God of War plays like Uncharted 4 but I'd argue that Sony has enough variety in the games that share those common pillars already, that...

Ninja Theory makes multiplatform games and has worked with Sony before. This wouldn't be a good fit for them as Microsoft would buy Ninja Theory and keep their games off other platforms.

I don't think Sony would benefit all that much from acquiring Remedy to be honest. Remedy don't really offer anything that Sony doesn't already have. Sony are arguably already the best publisher at 3rd person, story-driven action games.

If they are looking to acquire studios I'd much rather have them look for something that can expand their offerings. I think they should look at some japanese teams because ironically that's their weakest base right now....

The Super cards only exist because AMD is launching Navi. If Nvidia wanted they could've launched these cards from the get go but there was no need to offer better value because they didn't have any real competition in September 2018.

AMD could've priced the Navi cards more aggressively but they've decided to use the fact that Nvidia cards are overpriced to bump up their own margins and therefore made it easy for Nvidia to have an answer to the Navi launch. ...

Well it is an Nvidia gameworks title so it's not the lack of optimization but the presence of insane amounts of tesselation (primarily hairworks and turfworks) being rendered even offscreen that is gimping the performance of the AMD cards (and older Nvidia cards) much harder than it does with modern Nvidia card.

That's the reason why the FFXV benchmark is considered one of the worst benchmarks out there. You can see that in the benchmark the 1660Ti performs better t...

As far as I understand it GRRM has created the whole setting (world, characters, myth) but it's up to Miyazaki what he uses and how he implements it into the game. I don't expect a huge change in how the story is told compared to other Miyazaki games (which is a good thing in my book).

I think we're way past the point where hardware is the main limiting factor on the creative vision. Don't get me wrong it's certainly still a factor (especially with the low end CPUs in the current gen consoles) but as hardware got progressively more powerful other factors have become more prevalent.

Most ambitious projects are limited by budget, manpower and time. Historically the evolution of game development tools and APIs couldn't keep pace with the evol...

I doubt that Sony and Microsoft are gonna use FP32 performance for marketing the power of the next gen consoles this time around. People would compare it to the last gen consoles and would get the wrong idea about how powerful those consoles are.

I haven't finished updating my personal Next gen console spec predictions after Navi's E3 reveal yet because I'm waiting for reviews to shine some light on power and thermals of the Navi GPUs but I think that they'l...

@lazyboyblue: The fact that Mark Cerny mentioned raytracing in the wired interview is a good hint that the PS5 will have some sort of hardware accelerated ray-tracing solution. There wouldn't really be a reason to talk about it otherwise because in theory the current gen consoles can do raytracing.

While this alone is not a confirmation when you combine the interview with AMDs roadmap for Ray tracing chances are that MS is probably gonna use RDNA's next gen hardware...

But seriously, that would suck. From Software dlc is usually really good and Sekiro is one of my favorite games of the generation. I mean if it means that Elden Ring comes out quicker I can't be too upset but it would be awesome to at least get one expansion as I think there is a lot of potential for some awesome stuff still.

How exactly are they gonna pull that off using the exact same architecture?

CPU: We know that both are using Zen 2. Sony said they are using an 8 core CPU. MS haven't said anything about core count yet but chances are it's either 6 or 8 cores because 8 cores is the max on a single chiplet. A change to more cores would either mean 2 chiplets/twice the die area on a monolythic SoC, or a complete redesign of the cache structure of the chip which would be very expensive...

@xRacer74x: We know what they have cooking. Concrete Genie, Death Stranding, Dreams, Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2. The PS5 isn't coming out for quite some time and it's not even properly announced yet so obviously they aren't going to show any PS5 projects.

Well to be fair Sony did show up last year. They've shown some amazing gameplay demos for already announced titles and got criticised for not having any major new game announcements. I think companies should be free to skip E3 when they don't feel like they have enough material to make an exciting press conference happen. The expectations for E3 conferences are always through the roof.

Having something like state of play is a much better way to keep fans updated on ...

We've learned at E3 that RDNA is indeed a new architecture with a more efficient graphics pipeline. It is possible that the consoles will benefit from some RDNA 2 enhancements like hardware raytracing, variable rate shading and hopefully a more efficient power consumption. It'll certainly be a challenge to keep the next gen consoles cool and quiet because despite the 7nm node, the improved graphics pipeline and the general improvements that have been made to the power efficiency, Navi...

While that's true, in practice those positions aren't always as cut-and-dry as they sound on paper. Nomura and Kitase have known each other for decades and clearly respect each other. Kitase was the game director on the original, so I'm sure he is consulted in a lot of key decisions during game development.

Considering that Kitase hasn't directed a game in a long time and that the remake takes a more action oriented style it probably makes more sense to have...
