Great list. But if you're not including the GTA games you shouldn't include Resident Evil either.

Impossible task but here we go:

1. FF VII, VIII and IX (I know I'm cheating, but the are 3 of my all time favorites and I can't choose)
2. MGS 3
3. Bloodborne
4. God of War 2
5. Metal Gear Solid 1
6. God of War 3
7. Vagrant Story
8. Uncharted 2
9. Resistance 3
10. Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

Can you post the uncropped versions of the pictures from past days? Would be interesting to see.

Screen on the devkit? Have you seen a higher res version of the pic? What line are you interpreting as saying anything about Demon's Souls? I don't see it.

Open world doesn't mean 360° of freedom all the time. Death Strandings world has "level design" and some routes are more obvious than others. Not to mention that routes that are travelled more often produce footpaths, so naturally it creates a feedback loop where more people are taking the same paths.

Spoilers (chapter 5): I found that building an efficient zipline network lead me way off the trodden paths which made for an interesting challenge.

I completely agree. Traversal often just acts as a buffer between the actual gameplay. In the worst cases you're just mindlessly beelining between the action sequences until you unlock fast-travel, at which point you're basically skipping the open world for the most part. While games that make traversal a bigger focus of the gameplay itself (e.g. Batman Arkham, Infamous, Spider-Man) require a bit more interaction by the player, there rarely are any consequences for messing up. Travers...

@TK
Some of my comment was not in relation to your comment, but in relation to the story posted here and my opinion of this type of criticism in general.

When I was talking about the solid foundation I was talking about the building blocks of the world and plot, not about metaphors and symbols. That's why I brought up history and politics instead of inheritance and memetics for example.

If you think that the game presents unity in an idealist...

I've been taking notes throughout my playthrough and I picked up a lot of stuff that I'd describe as fairly subtle. If you expect a Kojima game to be subtle all the time, you're clearly not familiar with his body of work. What I love about Kojima is that he always has a solid foundation because he educates himself on the themes of the game he is making.

No matter how crazy the plot gets or how over-the-top some aspects of it become he always has that solid found...

The gameplay is certainly engaging if you take your time and try to understand all of the systems in place. it regularely introduces new tools and strategies, but leaves it to the player to experiment with them. Some things are only hinted at and some are not explained at all. I'm still discovering new stuff almost everyday, whether it is a mechanic I didn't know about, a function of the HUD I didn't pay attention to or even a strategy I come to understand after playing the game l...

You're right that there is no objective way to rank something as complex as a video game. I also agree that unverified reviews are the real problem here. With that being said it's pretty obvious that most of the Death Stranding user reviews on metacritic are fake. Just the sheer amount of 0/10 reviews is clearly indicating that some people are mostly interested in bringing the average score down.

13 days after launch It already passed Witcher 3 (PC) which held the r...

Well, in this case it may be true:

"Do I have the heart to tell him that instead of playing your game, I went black to playing Overwatch. Overwatch, Mr Kojima? What fan plays Overwatch the week one of your games comes out?

I think I just needed to play something fun, which your game is not."

Here's a summary: It's written by an idiot that indulges in self-pity, because he has been asked to write a review on Death Stranding. He doesn't like the game, so he asks Kojima to convince his editor to free him from this heavy burden - because that makes sense...

To show that he is a professional, he's presenting his glorious achievements in writing, with his coverage of Metal Gear Survive being one of them. The highlight however seems to be his "pee...

Let me ask you this: How on earth did you manage to finish the game already if you're bored by the gameplay loop? I'm enjoying the heck out of this game and spent most of the last 2 weekends playing it and I'm nowhere near the end of it.

It's especially weird, looking at this comment on yours, where you've claimed that you'd never be able to dedicate enough time to finish this game: 2398d ago 5 agree1 disagreeView comment

I got the Energy drink back yesterday. I haven't checked if I got another standard delivery, that brings the Timefall Porter back yet. There are some fun sequences with the beer though. Try going to BB after drinking at least 3 of them. I got another one just by drinking all the cans, but that one seems to be chance dependant.

On topic: I honestly don't mind it too much. It's only visible on the table in the rest room. If they slapped Monster logos on his outfit...

Here's hoping that it sells well in Europe and US too. A bunch of idiots are trying to smear the game and get it to flop. It's tempting to get involved it these discussions, but I'd rather finish it first and have time to reflect on it before putting a conclusive opinion out there. I think that many players think the same way. Hopefully the trolls get tired at some point and more reasonable opinions will start to propagtate more.

It's interesting that you bring up SOC and TLG because I've started playing both games and never managed to finish them. I tried the original SOC twice and got pretty far on my second attempt but I just lost my motivation at some point. TLG I enjoyed much more and I'm sure I'll come back to it soon, but again I've just got distracted by something more interesting to me.

I appreciated the beauty of the games, but the controls were pretty rough and there w...

The first couple of hours focus mostly on worldbuilding and introducing the player to the story. The way it's presented is very intriguing and mysterious. Unfortunately most of it has been shown in the trailers prior to the game's launch. People that went on media blackout early on are in for a treat from the first minute, but for others the early cutscenes probably won't be as mindblowing. We're still offered some context that was missing from the trailers, which makes it int...

@Atom666: Somehow I assumed he was talking about Unreal Tournament to be honest. But yeah GeOW is probably the game he is recognised for the most these days.

At what metacritic score would you agree with worshipping a game director then? I certainly admire Hideo Kojima and consider him to be one of the best directors in the industry, but I'm not gonna judge a game before playing it no matter who directed it.

I've been away from n4g for most of the time since Death Stranding reviews came out, which in retrospect seems to have been a good decision.

The game comes out tomorrow. That's when we'll b...
