Exactly, makes me wonder what the hell people are seeing when they make statements such as "fun over graphics", Nintendo is proving - as always - you can have both. Yes, both Xbox One and PS4 may have more 'power' under the hood, you cant however look at recent Wii U games and seriously tell me they aren't equally as good (if not better) than what Xbox One/PS4 are currently running.

36 years old here. I've been 'gaming' since first being gifted a ZX Spectrum, my first computer. Don't believe the hype, games have not gotten better over time, in fact, the industry has in the last couple of generations put a strangle-hold on innovation, so much so that a console such as the Wii/Wii U gets a beating for not following the established path...it's saddening.

I could not agree more - except regarding marketing. People ask for new IP's but history and sales suggest all the marketing in the world wont persuade people to change from their established IP's. Wonderful 101 is not a 'perfect' game - I own and have almost completed it, it is however a very, very good games, innovative, creative and challenging = basically everything people appear not to want.

COD, Assassins Creed, GTA, etc, etc, people want the same, a VER...

Defending the indefensible, fair play. Sod it, why don't Konami simply carry on this model and never release a full game again, instead release every 'new' game in chapters.

Yes, some games are a lot, lot better, I could name a tonne...

Besides, it seems almost you are advocating this sort of practice depending on a particular franchisees success, I'm sorry, I don't see Nintendo following this trend, unless of course you are saying Nintendo don't posses far, far more better franchisees than the often very good/sometimes poor MGS series.

This. I would suggest 'next gen' has not started well for Microsoft and Sony fan boys, most games - if not all - playable on previous systems at a far, far cheaper price...suddenly the Wii U doesn't look quite so sad?

I'd like to add, I own a PS4 having enjoyed my experiences with my PS1, 2 and 3, its just a shame about the terrible launch minus PR.

Other M gets such a bad rap, in my opinion only because it's in the company of such greatness, otherwise it was a good/very good Metroid game.

A lot of great, iconic and masterful 2d Metroid games in the catalogue, however - for me, Metroid Prime alone eclipses all of them, trust me, that is NOT an easy thing for me to say/admit. Prime is everything a Metroid game should be and more...isolation, exploration and tension, all wrapped up in a visuals that feel alive and controls as tight as a drum.

No love for the N64 version?

I think it is unlikely we will ever see a new F-Zero for the reason that the 'casuals' are killing the industry. Another GTA, COD, Assassins Creed or annual sports franchise, sure, as for anything slightly unfamiliar with the masses, forget it!

Take the Nintendo Wii for example...'gamers' hated it because it didnt stick to the boundaries, it defied convention, only traditional controllers and semi-realistic games f...

Ignore the Wii U at your peril. Exclusives for said console have both ran and looked marvelous, no compromise on either side. Nobody sees this however because like the Dreamcast before - a case of history repeating itself, people's eyes (and wallets) are drawn by the aggressive advertising elsewhere.

The prices (I think) are still too high in relation to the games and the fact its too tempting to simply acquire the games and emulator for free, most PC's should run it fine. Now dont get me wrong, I'm not an emulator type guy, I much prefer playing games as intended on host hardware, however, for the price Nintendo are charging I dont see these games being - as they should - impulse buys, nostalgia kicks.

I've a bad, bad feeling this game is going to fall way short of some peoples expectations. Ive no doubt it will be a good game, very good even, but it appears too many people have marked this game as being the official leap into 'next gen', whatever that means. I'll be watching with baited breath as the reviews start rolling in...

Is it fair to say the only truly 'next gen' games thus far has been SM3DW?

I would struggle even to define it (Second Son) as "beautiful". Nothing thus far on PS4 - and I own one - has struck me as looking anything other than solid, good but not great. Yes, I know its just the first generation of titles and yes, I'm getting back into PC gaming again so perhaps this has me spoiled, but Ive got to say, my PS4 has been little more (again, thus far) a disappointment on every level.

I can comment of Thief but I picked up Tomb Raider for my PC a couple of months back...I was pleasantly surprised, particularly considering I'm not what you would call a fan of the genre. My only niggle is that I would have liked less gun-play and more exploring and puzzles, a very small niggle, otherwise I couldn't recommend it enough.

For you perhaps. What do you think, Sony/Konami are in it to make friends? Why release said game 'free' via PS Plus when it is likely the majority of people will pay the RRP for what is - lets be brutally honest - a demo...welcome to 'next gen'. Besides, with the drought currently on PS4/Xbox One AND the MGS fanbase it was always going to this way.

The 3DS is really showing what it can handle. Smash Bros, on a handheld? not long ago I would have said it was a hoax, it will be very interesting to see how it performs.

Not as close as April 16th sadly, sob*

Yes, Mario Kart and Smash Bros are hardly 'new' games but I'm telling you straight, the Wii U versions of each are going to blow things wide open.
