It deserves no hate, never mind so much. It's a breath of fresh air, it posseses a great library of games, it has an exciting upcoming schedule, it's currently running games at an average of 720p/60fps - some even at 1080p/60fps without a frame dropped. Sure, it's not 'perfect', no console is or shall ever be, but what 'faults' it may have had they have almost all been rectified. Don't hate without owning, it's ignorance of the highest order.
Please, let it go! I bought Shenmue 1 & 2 at launch, I was a big Dreamcast supporter - a console I also bought at launch. But for heavens sake, each game was of its time, some memories are best remembered NOT to be repeated...nostalgia is a cruel mistress. I would champion a Shenmue 3 for Wii U (exclusively), the only console and developer capable of doing the series justice, but as for re-releases, no.
Batman: The Movie (ZX Spectrum), Batman Returns (SNES), Turok 2 (N64) and Arkham Asylum (PS3), all contenders.
Mario Kart 8, no, Smash U, no, Bayonetta 2. no Titanfall, no, Diablo III, no Shovel Knight...damn it, dont make me choose! 1 thing is for sure, my GOTY 2014 is NOT a re-released onto the market in less than a year cynical cash in, in an industry cynical already.
I'm as big a fan of Nintendo as the best, but this whole Amiibo 'pandemic' has me feeling embarrassed. I'm darting around, looking desperately for the rarest Amiibo's - and for what...more tat in my collection, more plastic 'entertainment' to distract me from what is real and important in life. No, I dont want to be some suburban homemaker either, but really, I/we need to get some perspective.
Granted. Smash, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8 and Tropical Freeze (for example). To talk about GOTY contenders without bringing these games into the argument is ignorant to say the least. Semi-realisic chav fodder isn't the only thing relevant in the industry - thank God. Its like sales determine how good or not a console is. I'll stick to whats good thanks, NOT what sells.
Take my money Nintendo, please...
@SmokingMonkey oh, but I did. All 3 were as generic as is possible. KZ3 I got bundled with my launch PS4 - against my wishes...I traded it less than a week later. Second Son I bought second hand, again it was traded roughly a week later. LBP Ive not yet played but according to reviews it isn't worth it, buggy and unfinished is how its best described. Like I've said previous, the only game worth owning for PS4 currently (unavailable on other platforms) is TLOU. A great game but chewed ...
WTF!? "Memorable experiences and adventures, moments to talk about"...this could be Nintendo's motto! I can name a dozen games already for the Wii U which has blown me away. My PS4, none - not including reissued old PS3 classics. Also, stop talking about sales. Sales are for the suits, the number men. GAMES are priority, particularly if you go using the term 'core' gamers. Sales are for chavs who lap up COX and Assassins Creed.
How can you tell, truthfully. Where as I own both a Wii U and PS4 - with games for each, I can contrast and compare. You on the other hand are making a blind judgement, and trust me, my experience has shown me the PS4 to be little more than a damp squib.
So, of ALL the games available currently for either Wii U or 3DS, neither hardware houses any game you "care about"? You must be some tough but to crack...
Back to Mario Kart 8 for me, no, Smash, no, Bayonetta 2, no, Pokemon Y, no, New Leaf...damn it, so many properties not to care about.
I would say you were close but not entirely accurate. First, as for "other games", I suggest instead of buying for either a PS4 or XB1 buy for a PC...close to as many third party games but running at more consistent fps. Second, the Wii U has more, much more than 1st party games, very good ones at that. Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Shovel Knight, Pushmo, Tropical Freeze, Wonderful 101 and Lego Undercover, just for example.
The Wii U is running games at 'next ge...
Did I read this wrong, do my eyes deceive me? GOTY, Destiny? I think not. I'm not saying it isn't a worthwhile nomination in its particular genre, but NOT Game of the Year 2014, never. Mario Kart 8 is my pick, but yes, its was never going to be in contention while the self-proclaimed 'hardcore' rule the roost...bloody petulant adolescents.
That I think is quite insular thinking. Crowd funding is a great idea.
Uncharted and Street Fighter will be good/great, no question, even if deja vu is applicable. The Zelda franchise by comparison looks and plays vastly different with each game in its canon. Speaking of Uncharted - for me, it has a challenge now topping Tomb Raider as king of the genre...no amount of shiny new graphics will pull the wool over these eyes.
Seriously, how can you cite Zelda U as "just" another Zelda game i.e innovative, fresh, meticulously crafted, and in the same breath say U4 will be a masterpiece. If the Uncharted series would dare innovate in the same way the Zelda series has then yes, we could be onto something. As such its more the case of "just" another Uncharted with Zelda U almost certain to become a masterpiece.
Don't be disappointed that when you get your hands on the 'finished' version of said game it pales into insignificance to what we have been privy to initially. My advice - based on experience, staged events/showings rarely translate into the retail copy.
Yes, yes please, and while you're at it...Project Zero Wii U?
Screenshots usually do, its their sole purpose. How a game plays, runs and feels tends to be far, far more important in the long haul. Certainly I'm old and wise enough (sadly) not to be sold a game on some screenshots and carefully orchestrated 'gameplay'.
I'm a huge Street Fighter fan, from playing the original Street Fighter down the local Arcade, being gifted Street Fighter II for the SNES or being blown away by Street Fighter IV for my PS3. This latest instalment however (judging on showed footage) looks unlikely to have me in a hurry to upgrade from my copy of Street Fighter IV Ultra (PC). Looks less an evolution more devolution...if that makes sense.
