Not sure. As Sony and Microsoft have shown, you can have all the 'power' under the hood, but if you dont know how to utilise it...

I buy Nintendo to play videogames, NOT to play "dynamic deep stories" - of which games rarely ever (if at all) properly pull off, and "deep RPG's", although Nintendo (in my opinion) has some of the best. I agree - its hard not to, the current trend in videogames is shooters, third person action/adventure titles and 'open world' games, but I'm glad to see Nintendo not getting embroiled in it - even if it is damaging to sales.

I'm a gam...

People banging on about Nintendo getting the specs for their next console right...wake up and take a look! The specs on the Wii U are fine, I mean, I own a PS4 and a Wii U - both bought at launch, and at present I'm playing games such as SM3DW, MK8 and Smash all running at HD, some 720p, some 1080p, but perhaps more importantly, all running at a SOLID 60fps. The specs are sound. If you are after semi-realistic 'mature' titles i.e chav fodder, then the Nintendo may never be for you...

Nintendo owned 2014 - least in my experience. Proof needed? Look at the nominees for best Wii U game 2014...Smash, MK8, Bayonetta 2 and Tropical Freeze. Not one weak link and not one game not brimming with polish, gameplay and fun - not to mention exclusivity. Sad to see Titanfall not win best multi-platform game, but I understand, the genre is pretty saturated...still, wonderfully fresh (so to speak).

I picked up a PS4 at launch - as well as a Wii U (thank heavens), but I have to agree...2014 was an average year for Sony at best. The Last of Us was easy the best game on PS4 and a cracker in its own right, problem? I played it no more than a year previous for my PS3 - near enough exact experience, unless under a magnifying glass. The Wii U for those who own one (such as myself) will testify, 2014 was the year of Nintendo - take away propoganda and sales, basically what counts, GAMES.

Agree with the eventual winner. The New Order was a beauty, but from the moment I purchased said winner I never looked back, sublime example of the genre and easily in my top 10 of 2014.

How anyone can have "zero interest on the series" is beyond me. Staple Nintendo IP's always deserve interest, particularly Mario and Zelda. Skyward Sword - while not the finest Zelda in the canon - was/is still (for me at least) one of the finest games of last gen...a wonderfully fresh and innovative experience.

Pokemon Omega Ruby for me, or Alpha Sapphire should you wish. Both do a far better job (in my opinion) than the aforementioned nominees.

Not 1 Wii U game in that list? Interesting. No, let me rephrase that...not 1 Wii U game in that list? Embarrassing, nearsighted and ignorant.

As a massive Zelda fan I don't understand the level of love reserved for Twilight Princess. For me it was the first Zelda in a long time to stand still, not forge its own path or innovate in any meaningful way. As an adventure title it was stellar, as a game in the Zelda canon just very good - yet I expect near perfection, and usually get it from the series. Me personally, I am disappointed that the upcoming Zelda (while looking very promising) is dropping the groundwork set by Skyward Sw...

Most if not everything I played on my Wii U in 2014 I had fun playing - particularly first party gems. While The Last of Us and GTAV for my PS4 were good games I wouldn't describe either as fun, even more so when I factor into the equation I played both already on previous gen tech.

Its not the technology which has stopped the Wii U becoming market leader, its the distinct lack of chav fodder...the exact reason I stick with Nintendo. Nintendo may never lead the home console market race again - at least for the foreseeable future, however. Where Nintendo will continue to lead is experiences, fun, games and polish, if such trivial things should matter to you.

You won't get far 'waggling' the remote on any of the games I used as examples, but nice trolling.

Kinect and Move, two perfect examples of the term 'gimmick'. The Wii, it built games around motion controls, Sony and Microsoft, they built the motion controls but forgot to build the games - at least anything worthwhile. Skyward Sword alone is worth the inclusion of motion controls...not to mention Wii Sports Resort, Smooth Moves, Zack & Wiki, Sin & Punishment 2, No More Heroes 1 & 2, etc, etc.

I really, really wish the casuals i.e COD, GTA and Assassin Creed players (for example) would stop relating the term 'next gen' solely to ram and gigabytes. Architecture, innovation and experiences not featured in the previous incarnation is far more next gen than any cynical remastering. Bleeding chav fodder is strangling the industry like nobodies business.

Other than Smash? Hmm, let me think...SM3DW, W101, Pikmin 3, Tropical Freeze, Wind Waker (should you have foolishly not played it via the Gamecube), Lego City Undercover, NES Remix 1 & 2, Pushmo World. Seriously, NONE of these games are simply 'filler', all polished, fun and incredible experiences.

Its a fright that what we should be taking for granted - such as a stable network and polished/complete games (for example) - are classed as a 'bonus'. I mean, we pay a premium for consoles and games, should we not get what we pay for?

Agreed, at least with the eventual winner. Well, well deserved.

Personally I preferred the original. Yes, the sequel was cleaner, more refined and 'polished' to an extent, but what I loved about the original is that it was rough round the edges, it came from nowhere and caught you by surprise. Both great games. Lets hope for a sequel (of sorts) and it be a Wii U exclusive to get the very best out of it in terms of potential.
