Textures, colours, shadows, details, yes, all very well and good, but for me I'm more interested if it (U4) won't feel a little to safe\familiar at this stage. Besides, texture aside - thank God, I probably consider Tomb Raider king of the genre as it stands today.
No, it really wasn't. I've finally gotten it, gamers i.e the self-proclaimed 'hardcore' don't want any innovation, change or shift in pattern from what has gone previous...just look at it. Games like GTA, Assassins Creed and COD continue to tell in huge numbers while games such as Skyward Sword (for example) get cited as poor, simply for not following near exactly what has gone previous. Skyward Sword was for me just the breath of fresh air the Zelda franchise required at ...
The game with the best performance on PS4 and XB1 is the game that tears least and drops the fewest frames...erm, great? Oh well, excuse me while I get back to my 'last gen' Wii U...
This, THIS is the type of game and performance people were lauding it over Nintendo for 1 year on in their consoles (PS4/XB1) life cycle...give me a break! Seems to be Sony and Microsoft need to up their game if they want history to remember them for anything more than sales and numbers rather than games and quality...probably they dont.
Depends on your definition of "fun". For me, Second Son (and I have played it) was so far from fun, very vanilla. LBP3, DR3 and FC4, again - for me, definitely NOT fun. Competent yes, even above average, but I dont equate these games to fun or even escapism, just filler. With Nintendo, I play games with a true feeling of joy, pure unadulterated joy.
Rubbish! Yes, both PS4 and Xbox One MAY have plenty of 'enjoyable' games, but to claim if they didnt nobody would be buying them is tosh. Did both PS4 and Xbox One have AAA launch titles, no! So why so many consoles sold at launch, simple, marketing...its not rocket science. People buy what you tell them is good, like sheep - least the majority. Im sure both PS4 and Xbox One will offer many good games in time but as it stands the only real games of quality are available on last gen te...
Here it is again, 'hardcore' gamers. Can somebody please tell me what the definition of the term actually means. I have been gaming for over 20 years, owning various flavoured consoles and games...am I not 'hardcore' compared to somebody who has been gaming for less time and dedicates themselves solely to semi-realistic 'mature' (see adolescent) titles?
No, no more HD 'ports'...leave that to Sony and Microsoft. First, a good game is a good game period - HD or not. Second, if you missed whatever game first time around because of ignorance or likewise - more fool you. For me, I would love to see Sakurai lend his hand to something like a Blast Corps (N64) follow up, either on Wii U OR 3DS - whichever fits best.
I don't need anybody to remind me of Nintendo's contribution to the videogames industry - I have owned every major Nintendo console and games since receiving a SNES plus SMW for Christmas past. Without Nintendo I would have give up on the industry a good few years ago, about the time Sony and Microsoft started looking near identical.
A good rest well deserved. Here is somebody who knows when they have taken an idea as far as possible. Smash U is the pinnacle, a true classic. Fingers crossed he (Sakurai) will come back and offer us something equally as brilliant after a break...Kid Icarus U?
Dark, dark, dark, that's all I hear from the self-proclaimed 'hardcore'. Mario 64 was a masterpiece, but 'dark' themed...never. Majoras Mask has a cult following because it changed the pace and feel from Ocarica, NOT simply because it followed suit. Same with SMG (1&2), hardly "mature" but arguably not only the best Mario of all time but best videogame ever.
It goes back to this...Nintendo have a feel and knowledge regarding their staple IP...
@Blues Cowboy
Sorry. Probably I should read each post properly before sounding off, lol.
Here's a good idea...leave it to the self-proclaimed 'hardcore' to decide what direction would be best for the next Zelda i.e Zelda U, right? Wrong! If it were left to said 'hardcore' we wouldnt have Wind Waker or Skyward Sword (for example), in my opinion 2 of the finest and most radical Zelda games in the canon. No, semi-realistic graphics, a 'proper' controller and voice acting would be the choice of the 'hardcore', that or a 'remake'...yawn!
Yes, no Mario game this year, basically because we have just had a huge and fully realised Mario game released only 1 year ago. So, you want an entirely new and exceptional Mario every year? Yeah, me too, but be realistic. A new Mario, Smash and Kart released in a year yet you still want more...please, get another hobby or a better social life.
I cant comment for anybody else's experiences. All I know is - as well as owning a gaming PC - I bought both a Wii U and PS4 at launch. Currently my PS4 has been used for a handful of Blu Ray movies, catch-up services and 4-5 games - the best of which I could have played on my now traded PS3. By comparison my Wii U has is constantly getting utilised, better still as a GAMES machine. Having Smash, Mario Kart 8 and Bayonetta going at the moment is simply mind-boggling.

I'm a purist. I hope it doesn't relate to Nintendo releasing their games on anything other than Nintendo hardware. Nintendo games for Nintendo consoles, that's my motto.
Edit@ let Sony and Microsoft dilute their games vying for the highest bidder.
NO...not the Genesis game - though good. My Batman game was for the ZX Spectrum, truly a thing of beauty. I remember it being released very close around the release of the film, both tied in beautifully with one another. From that moment on I was a 'geek'...
Wii U and PC for me. Sure, the only way to play ALL the best games are owning all 3 consoles AND a gaming PC, but seriously, who has the time or can justify such matters. Owning a Wii U and PC covers most bases in my opinion, and besides, missing out on Nintendo exclusives is missing out on the heart and soul of gaming...Sony and Microsoft are probably the groin.
@Griever
For "modern gamers" see angry chav with short attention span. Also, yeah, "glowing critic reviews", since when did that equate to sales? which is after all the most important part of the videogames industry, right? Nintendo can keep their critically acclaimed games running at 720/1080p running at a rock solid 60fps, I'm much preferring my PS4 games 'remastered' from the previous gen 'upgraded' to be running at an inconsistent 3...
Some good games on the list here - Rise of Tomb Raider and Zelda U of particular interest. I'll also be very interested to see how No Mans Sky plays out.
