THIS is why I buy Nintendo. Good things (truly) come to those who wait...

Sure, I wouldn't say no to a new staple IP released every year, but lets leave that to Nintendo's 'rivals'. Nintendo it appears deliver when is good and ready - even though the wait is excruciating - and are all the better for it. This, X and Zelda U this year? Count me in!

Great nominees, deserving winner. Shame such great games of the genre are getting overlooked by all the chav fodder saturating the market.

I would be interested and likely purchase all mentioned titles in this article, particularly Taiko no Tataujin and Fatal Frame, Dragon Quest X as well. Please Nintendo, make it so.

Technically on the N64, albeit under a slightly different name - Animal Forest (I think).

You kidding!? Sure, while a new Animal Crossing game doesn't excite as old, Animal Crossing 3DS was incredible while feeling fresh - as is possible, and as for Animal Crossing Wii U...HD coupled with online/Miiverse features, gold struck.

@paul-p1988

Thanks for pointing out Wind Waker. That's why I'm sure if you check I said to the best of my knowledge. So, to reevaluate, 1 remaster for a console which has been on the market twice as long as 'rival' consoles - which have how many remasters!?

@Delsin_Rowe

"Master Console"!? That is EXACTLY what I am talking about when I say all-ish Sony has brought to the table this gen - particularly with its PS4 - is propaganda. What's powering a console, buzz words and mass advertising is nothing without games, and no, not - albeit great games - which the majority have played last gen. When I spent near enough £500 for my PS4 (at launch) I had no idea over a year down the line the best games for it would be G...

Well, perhaps PS4 owners - of which I'm one, regrettably - and XB1 owners will - more remasters that is. To my knowledge the Wii U - of which I also own, happily - has had less to no 'remasters' released on it even though its been on the market for longer.

As for a Wii U sequel, rubbish, and something I don't want to even consider at this early stage. It boggles my mind that if games such as SM3DW, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8 and Smash are being given us at thi...

Trust me, having played the entire Uncharted series (minus the Vita one) I would say that the grass is not always greener on the other side, particularly if you own a PC. Think of them like the Nolan Batman franchise...1st good/very good, 2nd even better, 3rd decent - while knowing deep down it was disappointing. Besides, while PS4 will have Uncharted 4 the PC will likely have (even sooner) Tomb Raider part 2.

Given the choice I would choose to have Tomb Raider exclusively, f...

I love people saying "Nintendo, hire this guy". One thing Nintendo are NOT short of is talent, and I mean talent enough to make a game from scratch, new worlds and ideas.

Also, I'm not being funny, but I wasnt all that bowled over with this demonstration. Certainly not the way I was upon first seeing/playing Mario 64 on initial release...KaBlam!

This is both good and bad - as I see it. Bad in that another Mario is always welcome, and wonderful, and a joy. Good in that the very, very last thing I want is for Nintendo to offer us 6 monthly instalments of a popular franchise in that it may be diluted into evaporation - similar to certain other 'rivals'.

Too few I fear. These self-proclaimed 'hard-core' are a funny lot, they pine over Watch Dogs, Destiny and Driveclub - no matter how vanilla, broken or monotonous, then they have the audacity to criticise Nintendo's attempts to offer us an alternative. I'll wager a lot of these Sony/Microsoft diehards are late teen early twenty somethings without having experienced the broader spectrum...more fool them.

Good/great games filled the 2014 period but the absolute best had to be Mario Kart 8, coupled with arguably (easily) the best DLC of the year. The only downside of 2014 as I saw it was the self-proclaimed 'hard-core' still not accepting the Wii U - and it's games - while at the same time lapping up all the chav fodder, no matter how average or broken.

Great games matter less and less in this market, sadly. Don't get me wrong, great games (and consoles) have always been overlooked for chav fodder - Okami, Shenmue and Skyward Sword for example, it just seems to be even worse this gen. Hype, propaganda and 'power', that seems to be what captures people's wallets...more fool them.

Fair enough, but I think we can all agree that some people have good taste and others, well, less so.

Sorry, but while I am happy to see Mario Kart 8 taking top spot - rather deservedly I may add, I can't help but notice the exclusion of Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors and New Remix 2, all expertly crafted titles. It pains me the casuals get to caught up in the Chav Fodder titles to really appreciate the broader picture...sign o the times.

I'm sorry, but why do these 'articles' continue to omit the Wii U? Nintendo arguably 'won' 2014 - particularly in the hearts and minds of the gamers, suits and number bods may say otherwise sadly. The Wii U had the better library of games in 2014, easily the best exclusives. For me Nintendo will build on a great 2014 with a hopefully just as good 2015, if not better, with Zelda, X and Starfox due.

Looks like (according to staffers) Destiny and Titanfall are 2 of the finest games in all of 2014. I'm sorry, but while opinions may vary (thank goodness) I can't for the life of me take this list as anything other than with a massive amount of scepticism. I go back to the fact that Mario Kart 8 isn't even included in the list of 10 - or Bayonetta 2 for that matter. Sorry, each to his own but this particular top 10 is NOT an accurate representation of 2014.

No mention of Mario Kart 8? Interesting. Very interesting.

I can only comment on my own experiences. I own a Wii U - since launch. My collection of retail games thus far...

Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros + Luigi, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, SM3DW, Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Smash and Captain Toad - as of today. This I may add does NOT include many digital releases, many of which are stellar.

The point I am trying to make is look at my library of games. Seriously, many, many excelle...
