Agree with @Summons75. Besides, if we are talking sequels...when oh when am I going to get my dream sequel? Okami 2 Wii U (exclusive). Come on. Ive been spoiled with Bayonetta 2, now what for a sequel (or prequel) to Okami?
I'm a long time Nintendo fan, but for whatever reason - age, work, family, friends, hobbies, etc, etc, I never got round to picking up a 3DS - in any of its variations. Anyway, that all changed yesterday. The 'regular' New 3DS (black) is what I went for, though I had my choice of all other models, even the Majora's Mask version. I decided on this model for a few reasons. Faceplates, SNES themed buttons and (for me) the XL just felt that bit too big, cumbersome. I bought A Link...
I honestly don't get the fuss and hysteria this 'limited edition' 3ds XL has caused. I had the option on pre-ordering, I instead went for the regular black - those SNES buttons combined with black, matching my Wii U. Gold, an only in XL, AND tied to just 1 game (no matter how good)...pass. I can only see that those interested were eBay trolls, those hoping for some desperate Nintendo fanboy - not unlike myself - to fold. Just received mine this morning with the wood effect facepla...
Dont fall into that narrow minded thinking. Sales is NOT the be-all end-all. Sure, I would love to think craftsmanship, polish and creativity were rewarded with sales, but as this gen is proving, that's not the case. History is filled with consoles/games which sold poorly but were critically regarded as triumphs. Shenmue, Okami, Rez, Ico, etc, etc. Sales is NOT proof of quality. Never has been, never will be. Fact it, while I bought both Wii U and PS4 (at launch), my PS4 has been used mor...
So - according to you, the Wii sold by the bucket load but didn't appeal to 'core' gamers, hence a failure? The Gamecube was for the core gamers but sold average, hence a failure? Seems Nintendo care stuck between a rock and a hard place where you are concerned. Fact is, as a gamer, I have never, never judged success on sales...Okami is always my example of this.
Now that is something I can get behind. Since I purchased my PS4 (at launch) I have felt sorely underwhelmed. The best games I either own or have owned? Games I played previous on my PS3 or multi-plats, ones I could have potentially purchased for my PC - cheaper and offering better performance. I'm still (slightly) convinced the potential is real, with R&C, that would be a great platform on which to begin.
Each to his own - and while I really, really enjoyed Kazooie, and Conker for that matter, Mario 64 was not just a watershed moment for the N64 but videogames in general. Its easy to forget/take for granted but Mario 64 changed the landscape. Yes, 3D platfromers existed previous, but each were more experimental, awkward and finicky. Its not a strect to say that without Nintendo and Mario 64 the industry today could look a lot worse - God forbid.
Its true. Yes, the PC tends to offer the best performance AND the higher resolutions - coupled with all sorts of bells and whistles, but build a PC which offers as much for the price of a PS4/XB1/Wii U...no chance.
For any good reason?
This is another reason Eurogamer have done what is right...do away with 'scores' completely and avoid unnecessary trolling.
Not me. In a gen crowded with multi-player shooters, this doesn't (by most accounts) sounds nearly brilliant or different enough to warrant much attention. Solid, slight variation, but so are SO many others in a crowded fps market.
If you insist. Yes, it is of course my opinion, but surely its the opinion of everybody else who (like me) owns a PS4. I mean, even the most near-sighted Sony 'fan boy' cant claim Second Son or Driveclub are worth owning a PS4 for alone. I'm positive the games/exclusives will come, but at present, they simply don't exist.
The perfect marriage. Banjo Kazooie exclusive to Nintendo hardware.
Do it. Keep it a Wii U/Nintendo exclusive. Do not, I repeat, do NOT give it to Sony or Microsoft. I mean, its not like having Bayonetta 2 exclusive to the Wii U did the franchise/game any harm - quite the opposite. And dont even get into sales. Sales for the original Bayonetta were poor at best, even being available over 2 popular selling consoles.
Could be a mixed blessing in this instance...just kidding.
Yeah, I've not doubt many PS4 owners are "champing at the bit". I own a PS4 - bought at launch. Its fair to say that to date the PS4 has nothing (certainly exclusively) which offers any bragging rights. Some good/very good multi-platform titles, and that's it. Certainly 'graphics' are a hook, but its GAMEPLAY which keeps a game fresh and brilliant. If I want story I'll go read a book or watch a movie, two mediums far, far better at telling tales.
A Link to the Past is best, even with such strong competition. I'd wager anybody who is old enough to have played ALTTP on initial release would testify likewise. While not nearly the best Zelda and awkward to play with in optimum conditions, I have a particular soft-spot for Four Swords. Ocarina was of course a watershed moment for so many people - myself included, and rightly so...but played now, just short of perfect - which I see ALTTP exactly as.
"jury's out on whether the gameplay is up to snuff". erm, that's putting it mildly from all accounts. Looks like Playstation may very well have its very own Dragons Lair/Space Ace. Besides, who said gameplay was important...
Nintendo are kings of the castle once again this gen. The Wii U is already delivering the games, now with the release of the New 3DS (and games) - injecting a boost into an already great system with wonderful library of games. Potential yes, but both Sony and Microsoft have plenty to prove as it stands - besides just sales. No troll comment. I bought a PS4 at launch, owning as I did every PlayStation previous.
Agreed. I cant even risk starting up on a game such as Monster Hunter 4 - no matter how much I want. My time for gaming these days is few and far between. Regarding Luigi's Mansion however. I hope that it is at least as good as its predecessor...that game blew me away on initial release, all the little details and innovations. Saying that, my very early impressions of A Link Between Worlds have surpassed expectations.
