Make that 200%. A game such as A Link Between Worlds (for example) is a far more interesting proposition. A sequel and homage to a stone cold classic while embracing modern videogame techniques. It always make me laugh when people ask for a 'true' successor to Mario 64. True successor? Weren't SMG 1, 2 and SM3DW good enough sequels that we must always want more of the near same?
Sales, sales, sales. Yes, this article is concerning sales, but can anybody but myself see past numbers sold? It's near enough telling me the best books, tv and movies of 2014 were those which had the largest audience. Yes, sales count for something, but I suggest it's not quality, innovation and craft, but trends. Games (for example) such as COD continue to sell in huge volumes, but surely the best and arguably only great COD is still COD4:MW. Like I suggest, trends, NOT quality. Oka...
I concur. However, be careful when using terms such as "family friendly" around these parts, some people here still think videogames are solely the reserves of the angry teen/pre-teen, and that visuals MUST strive for semi-realistic or fail trying. God forbid a company want to move away from that strategy and stand out a little in a busy market...
Toaster is trolling. Even on a above average 'gaming' PC, reaching 60fps and 1080p combined isn't a prerequisite. Having the funds of course secures you the optimum GTA experience - 60fps is a game changer, but at what cost?
By "as well as the PS4 version" do you mean all the performance and visual mishaps stated in said hands-on? For me, if that is 'next gen' I'll be happy sticking with games such as Mario Kart 8 which perform within their means and as such leave us with polished performance and visuals running side by side in harmony.
Yes, under a microscope, side by side. Don't get me wrong, I own a PS4 - bought at launch, but this 'better' business is only in a lab environment. As pointed out in the hands-on, both versions suffer on all levels visually and performance wise.
Inconsistent framerate, tearing, sub 1080p, yes, no wonder everybody tears into the WiiU at every opportunity for not being 'next gen'.
Where did this come from!? I'm sorry, are we talking Shadow of the Beast as in the Amiga (and ST I believe) classic? If so, I'll be interested to see what has been done with the name.
4k is of course going to make a difference - put side by side with console versions. However, for me - for those with powerful enough PC's (not me I fear), 60fps is the game changer. As a package for the spoiled minority, the PC version is of course the definitive package - particularly when you add mods on top.
That was never Watch Dogs problem. Yes, it looked 'fine', but it was what was underneath the visuals which is why it was scorned. Generic, trite gameplay from another time. No evolution in any way, shape or form - barring a gimmick.
@PlayableGamez
Please, say what you want, but DON'T even mention Nintendo and Ubisoft in the same sentence - as I just did, lol. Nintendo is famed on creating polished, fluid games chocked full of playability on content. Ubisoft on the other hand...
Good. This is just (for me) a stamp of quality control. I think we have all seen some shoddy word via 3rd party developers - this gen in particular. Poorly optimised games running a wildly inconsistent frame rates. You simply can not point that finger at Nintendo whatever else you want to say about them.
No, rather Nintendo doesn't trust the minority - and rightly so. Besides, no voice chat is NOT a deal breaker, no matter what thinly disguised trolling suggests. Anybody claiming not to be buying Splatoon based solely on it not featuring voice chat is (I believe) very suspicious. ME...day 1.
Sorry, but you could not seriously recommended this game over Street Fighter IV, and having both would feel glutinous. Mortal Kombat used to be the perfect anti-Street Fighter, now it just feels muted in comparison to earlier entries in the series, AND with violence and gore now common place in videogames...
You just couldn't help yourself, could you? Claiming "nothing more than fanboy fantasies" then in the same paragraph stating "the original Xbox was MUCH better than the Gamecube"...erm, OK. No, the original Xbox was not 'better' than the Gamecube, let alone " much". I'd argue both were good consoles but (for me, my personal tastes), the fact the Gamecube possessed Resi 4, Wind Waker and Metroid Prime - bona fide classics, well, that just sealed it...
This gen is mad crazy concerning visuals. For example, the Wii U trolls, Nintendo does not need an uberpowerful 'rig' to run its games at maximum capacity - a point being proved with SM3DW, Mario Kart 8 and Tropical Freeze (for example) all running at 720p (min) and 60fps. In real terms Nintendo's games look and run brilliantly. Still we have people arguing statistics and numbers, games under a microscope in a lab environment. Realise that if any games are struggling to run at max...
@The_Sage
Agreed. Driveclub in the rain does look good/very good, but what about the overall package? A rather shallow experience if you ask me. The point is, I believe Nintendo offer the better balance between visuals, performance AND gameplay. This must be the reason I contintue to buy Nintendo. It's no nostalgia when I'm playing Mario Kart 8, SM3DW or Tropical Freeze - for example. You needn't have played an of the games previous in the series to enjoy the libr...
@addictedtochaos
Thank you. I wouldn't mind, but I'm confident the good majority of people who slag of the WiiU - for whatever reasons - don't own or have let alone played any choice games on the system itself. I own both WiiU, PS4 (bought at launch), New 3DS and VERY modest 'gaming' PC. I feel happy to comment on each because not only owning but also playing the choice games on each. Its fair to say (in my experience) the PS4 is getting the least playtime...
I'm sorry, last gen graphics!? Can you convince me (or even yourself) both PS4 and XB1 are offering anything particularly 'next gen' in terms of graphic capabilities? Fact is, Nintendo's WiiU has thus far offered a library of varied/great games which look fantastic and run at buttery smooth framerates. The difference between WiiU's top tier games and PS4/XB1's (graphically) are negligible, certainly in real world terms. How anybody can realistically play a AAA WiiU gam...
Regarding Skyward Sword on you HDTV...probably, but most if not all games for the Wii looked poorer on an HDTV. Try playing Skyward Sword and indeed all Wii games on a good CRT set, you wont be asking for an HD 'remake' after. Its all about the right set up. Hook up a Wii to a good CRT set and each game will look as good as it was always supposed - that is wonderful.
