I sincerely doubt it...
How would you connect RAID arrays, additional NIC's, etc. to a PS3 to use it as an enterprise server? Sure you have USB, but I'm doubting that 480Mbit/Sec (that works out to only 60Mbytes/Sec) is going to be enough for any serious tasks.
Not to mention, who would you call for support if anything happened? I don't really see this getting adopted other than tinkerers having fun playing with it.
The PS3 isn't built for that k...
Where's the link for the data on that? Where is this information coming from?

A movie about the touchscreen interface technology which Apple has recently patented. It is not a movie made by Apple but by some researchers.

And I would laugh my ass off if it were the case, after all these xbox fans went saying that the SixAxis was a stupid idea...

I may have to actually pickup the latest and greatest version of Nero (I'm still working with Nero 6... I know... behind the times... ;-)
All I can say is it's about time!!! Now I can't wait to update my PS3 (and download the WarHawk Beta!!!)
This just SERIUOSLY brightened my day!!
I agree that it would be VERY nice to just have the codecs natively on the PS3, but at least this is a step in the right direction.
Now, if only they would release the DivX, XVid, and MKV codecs in the 2.0 update, I would be in heaven...

How many XBox fans on this site were talking trash about HDMI not being needed, then trading in their 360 Deluxe (LOL) for an Elite when it came out?
That wouldn't be like how Microsoft said that HDMI wasn't needed, then releases the 360 "Elite" now would it?
Could that be Micro$oft biased? Nah....
Is the PS3 in a software slump, yep.
Will it continue to be in a sales slump permanently, nope.
This is just like the articles talking about how Microsoft is going to can the XBox division due to lack of profits... Not going to happen...

So Kojima is just a crackpot that doesn't know what he's talking about?

Get over their whole "no downloads of classic games" stance, and put the old Nintendo Squaresoft games on the Wii virtual console, and put the old PS1 Squaresoft games on the Playstation store.
Once Sony gets off their arses and puts out the PS Store on the PSP, then PS1 downloads could get HUGE. There's 25 million PSP's out there...
I would personally buy Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, Parasite Eve, and Bushido Blade in a heartbeat if I could play them ...
"I am not saying I agree or disagree with what he has to say but IMO reading the opinions of someone who does not even own any next gen console just looses any credibility to me."
So the fact that he's been contributing quite a bit to the site doesn't mean anything just because he doesn't have a 360, PS3, or Wii?
Now that wouldn't be anything like comparing Gran Turismo HD CONCEPT to Forza 2, would it? ;-) I believe that the blame on things like this go BOTH ways...
Wow... the amount of anger in that post makes me think that you're some pathetic 14 year old kid... And if you're actually older than that... That's TRULY sad...
Until then, it's just pure speculation. 'nuff said...
Even though non-technical buyers may be weary of putting a larger drive in their console, it worked without a hitch for me.
I've been running a Hitachi 5400rpm 160GB drive in mine for three months now, and not a single issue with it. Maybe GameStop, BestBuy, Circuit City, etc. should think about offering a PS3 hard drive upgrade service to their customers?
Also, USB hard drives work GREAT with the PS3... So you don't even have to upgrade the internal hard driv...
"Toshiba is selling it's player this week with 5 HD-DVD's for $299."
And taking a hefty loss on each unit sold...
Last year when they were selling the HD-A1 player for $499.99, they were taking a $200-$400 loss per unit on those players...

You're more likely to see this in an AIX server or workstation than you are in a gaming system... At least for now.
Although, a new revision of the Cell using the Power6 tweaks would be very interesting... Especially in a workstation... Still waiting on that IBM... I WANT A CELL BASED GRAPHIC WORKSTATION MONSTER... ;-)
And higher CPU/RAM utilization while the compressed data is decompressed... There ARE drawbacks to compression, it's not the holy grail that Microsoft would like you to believe it is...
Well, that's true... But the only advantage to using the PS3 as a server is the amount of processing power you have available, which is still hampered by the fact it only has 256MB of RAM...
I still think that this would only be adopted by tinkerers, but that SATA adapter and external drive casing is looking MIGHTY awful sweet... Especially with the 1.8 firmware, and the chance to do remote play over the internet... I could put a metric BOATLOAD of media on the PS3 and acces...
