How when the PS3 was finally unveiled how XBox fans were saying how black is so oldschool... Now Micro$oft puts out a black 360 (with silver accents... Hmmmmm...), and they're chomping at the bit to get it?

LOL... ;-)

Yep, we're all lemmings... unlike you guys where:

1. You pay $50/year to use YOUR OWN CONSOLES as game servers... (and don't try to claim the money is for the download servers, etc. XBox Live silver gives you that for free)

2. You're willing to shell out $100 for a 20GB hard drive (When you can get a 40GB 2.5" SATA hard drive for $45 RETAIL)

3. You're willing to shell out $180 for a 120GB hard drive ($75 + Shipping on NewEgg)

Although after comparing the specs on the GeForce 8800 chipset and the R600 chipset, this performance gap HAS to be due to bad ATI drivers... Which is an issue they're notorious for... (especially if you're a Linux user stuck with an ATI graphics chipset...)

I would give them a year or so to straighten out the driver issues before taking the plunge.

He ended up getting too much of the big head syndrome, and made some pretty crucial mistakes (mainly TERRIBLE quotes to the media bringing WAY too much bad press to Sony, and going ridiculously over-budget with the PS3 and NOT notifying upper management of the situation)

Here's to hoping that he is replaced with somebody that will unify the different Sony business units, and bring some awesome new services to the plate for the PS3 and PSP (music streaming and downloads from the...

Don't forget that Sony is still making money hand over fist with the PS2, and the manufacturing cost per unit on the PS3 is dropping like a rock.

With the blue laser diode breakthrough that Sony has made, along with mass manufacturing the Cell CPU on a 65nm die (with 45nm production probably ramping up sometime late next year), and the improving software backward compatibility allowing Sony to drop the Emotion Engine hardware from the design, the cost to manufacture a PS3 has c...

Keep in mind that the split memory architecture of the PS3 is JUST LIKE the way it is with a PC that has a dedicated video card... Your system RAM and video RAM are separate. Now, data can be exchanged between the RAM banks across the interconnect (whether PCI, AGP, PCI-X, or PCI Express), but extra latency is added from going across the bus.

The way the 360 is setup is more like a PC with built-in video. The video chipset uses part of the system RAM for the video/texture RA...

When you're talking about the Elite, which is SUPPOSED to be a home-theater buff version of the 360, then why WOULDN'T you want to be able to support ALL of the different audio formats supported by HD discs, and available to HD downloads?

If the Elite is intended solely for games, then I whole-heartedly agree with you. Is HDMI 1.3 needed now, nope. Will it be a viable option in two to three years, absolutely.

Don't forget that the PS1 was still going strong in the early days of the PS2. I'm just glad to see that Sony didn't forget about PS2 owners and leave them high and dry after the release of their new system.

The PS3 will be fine. Sony systems always have a slow ramp-up period. The PS3 is set to shine in '08.

I would absolutely LOVE to be able to play DX10 games in an OS other than Vista... Linux would be friggin amazing, although I could live with XP.

I thought it was stupid of Microsoft to try and push Vista as a gaming platform when it is the most resource hogging OS they have put out to date! Vista merely runs OK on a system with 1GB of RAM, while XP (and Linux) would FLY if you gave it 1GB...

Here's to hoping these guys can successfully port this over to Linux!...

Going by that logic, then why is VHS still around in 2007?

I'm not saying that something better than HD-DVD and Blu-Ray won't be out in four years or so, but by then either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD will be down to commodity pricing... E.G. Sub-$300 players, and movie discs that are around $20-25.

By then, HD discs should be coming close to being as common as DVD's are today.

Both sides of this silly HD format war are doing things to try and boost their numbers...

It'll be nice once the format war is over, and there's only one HD format, regardless of which one it is.

If they're doing processor and memory sharing between nodes, then USB, FireWire, WiFi, and Bluetooth are WAY too slow to pull it off... Gigabit Ethernet would be the BARE minimum necessary to get any kind of performance out of it.

You would need something like InfiniBand, Myrinet, QsNet, or SCI to get any kind of real performance out of it. It'll be interesting to see how they attempt to pull this technology off...

Now why is it you say that HD-DVD caters to home theater buffs and Blu-Ray does not? Both are merely discs that contain movies, both provide 1080p video, and high-fidelity audio.

If HD-DVD caters to home theater buffs more, then why have Blu-Ray movies been outselling HD-DVD for the past few months, consistently? HD-DVD only briefly re-took the lead because of a concerted effort by HD-DVD owners going on a buying spree, with Blu-Ray jumping right back into the lead immediatel...

And they DROPPED the price on the 20GB drive to something like $40... They would be making smaller margins, granted, but the potential volume of sales would EASILY make up for the lack in margins.

We're also talking about a company that has sold about ten million consoles, yet there is no price drop in sight.

And Sony fans get called "lemmings" on this site... ;-) LOL

So if you already have a 360, you can either stick with a dinky 20GB drive (or over-pay for a dinky 20GB if you have the core), or pay a ridiculous amount for a 120GB drive?

That doesn't sound like choice to me, that sounds like blackmail... ;-)

If Microsoft would have dropped the price on the 360 core and premium, and brought out the "elite" for $399.99, then I believe that it would have been received by the public better than it has been.

I mean c'mon... They have "sold" 10 million units, where's the freaking price drop!

Then they have completely lost touch with their consumer base... I'm hoping that they have the cohones to drop the price $100 on the 60GB, and put the 200GB out for $599.

I'm a big fan of the PS3 hardware, and hoping that IBM will eventually put out Cell workstations. The CPU has some interesting possibilities, especially when you throw a crap load of RAM at it... ;-)

Take a look at how huge they get after being installed. With some consoles you get the ability to install some of the game data to the internal hard disk, but for the most part you are 100% reliant on the optical disc for all of your game storage.

Now, DVD9 WITH the ability to install on the hard drive (as it is on the PC), and you can essentially work around the size limitations of your optical media. DVD9 by itself? You better have some amazing compression techniques.
