If I bought a CD, then used my PS3's BUILT-IN facilities to copy the tracks to my hard drive, I would be stealing that music?

ALL of these greedy ass music publishers need to get their heads out of their arses and see that they cannot hold on to their archaic business models forever... What worked for them in the 1970's and 1980's won't carry over into the 2000's...

I really wish that more companies would adopt a business model like Real Networks did with Rhapso...

The PS3 is most definitely worth picking up with the big blockbusters getting ready to come out. Metal Gear Solid 4 is going to be a masterpiece... Kojima-san does not disappoint ;-)

Having both systems would be the best way to go. That way you would not miss out on any of the killer games coming out soon.

The Wii... Well, I have one, but it doesn't really see much use. It's pretty good if you have a standard-def TV, but Wii games don't look so hot on a 1080...

Which is why I recommend purchasing a PS3 model depending on what you want out of it.

Get the 60GB model if you are looking for the best in backward compatibility.

Get the 40GB model if you are looking for a low entry price, and backward compatibility isn't needed.

Get the 80GB model if... Well... Can't really think of a good reason to go with the 80 ;-)

I have a 160GB drive in my post-launch 60GB model, and I'm down to ~50GB free....

Unlike the 360 and its dinky PROPRIETARY hard drive, you can put any laptop SATA drive in the PS3. Also, the PS3 actually works with USB hard drives.

But one thing that I cannot defend is Sony's decision to only go with the 40GB model in Europe... I can understand wanting to cut down on the number of active SKU's, but to completely get rid of PS2 backward compatibility?

Ohwell... Makes me glad I am an early adopter...

That the PS3 has sold as well as it has at a price range that has spelled disaster for every other console to come out in that range.

3DO - $700 launch price, 6 million sold over four years
Neo-Geo AES - $650 launch price, 1 million sold over seven years

PS3 - $500 to $600 launch price, close to 6 million sold in 10 MONTHS...

Despite the historically disastrous price point, initial drought of games, and initial crappy ports, it still sold a ...

The EU 60GB PS3's (and the US 80GB PS3) still have the graphics chip from the PS2. Only the Emotion Engine (CPU) is software emulated. The 40GB model has both PS2 chips (EE and GS) removed.

It does kinda suck that the 40GB PS3 won't have any backward compatibility, but with all of the big PS3 titles coming up very soon, it shouldn't really matter.

Honestly, I have one of the early US 60GB PS3's and I hardly play PS2 games on it. There's more than enough quality...

I have an original PSP and a slim, and it seems like the slim has a slightly better screen than the original (not as much ghosting when playing either GTA games)

Just the fact that it's significantly lighter, better d-pad, and video out was enough to make me go out and get one.

There goes one of the pro HD-DVD talking points...

It seems like future releases are going to be region encoded just like DVD and Blu-Ray...

Although, who couldn't see that one coming... Different regions usually have different pricing, and they don't want people to be able to just import a movie for less than their home region charges...

"What would happen if holographic disc became mainstream in 3 years? Then BR HD-DVD both go bye bye."

For that to happen, holographic discs would need to come out NOW, and start getting a user base built up.

Not likely if you ask me.

Two words... 2160p video... :-)

And with the PS3 supporting HDMI 1.3, that is completely possible (@ 30fps)...

So 9 years from now, your PS3 will still be viable as a Blu-Ray player on Quad-HD displays... ;-)

Is if they were to do clustering using it. If one of the HDMI ports could be set to be an input port, you could daisy chain PS3's together using HDMI (kinda like the old 3Dfx Voodoo 2 cards doing SLI), then use the gigabit ports for cluster heartbeat communication.

This way, you could have multiple consoles working together to render images for AMAZING results.

Other than that, I can't think of anything near practical for a PS3 hardware configuration like this.....

Agreed... The only thing that really makes the multiplayer part of Halo 3 (and Halo 2) truly stand out is matchmaking. I have to admit that it makes things extremely simple to get an online game going.

The biggest match that I have been in was six on six... Where's the 32 (or more) player online? Where's the clan support?

Halo 3 is DEFINITELY a good game, but 10/10? No way... 8.5 - 9.0 would be far more realistic.
