MGS4 and Uncharted 2 are the highest-rated console exclusives this gen.
And LBP is tied with the highest-rated 360 exclusive.
Funny how the importance of Metacritic disappeared once the PS3 began to dominate it...
EDIT @ below
Yeah, I think I got LBP and MGS4 reversed. MGS4 has a 94 and LBP has a 95. Thanks.
No 360 game belongs on that list. Sorry, but we've seen gameplay of Alan Wake and Splinter Cell: Conviction.
While they don't look BAD, their graphics don't even come close to "blowing me away graphically". The era of 360 graphics going toe-to-toe with PS3 graphics are over.
Most PS3 exclusives live up to the hype. The only remaining argument PS3-haters have is "bu bu but it didn't sell 8 million, therefore it didn't meet the hype! FAILZ!"
Legend of Zelda is like Dragon Quest/Warrior.
No, not in gameplay, but in the way the storylines are and how all the games are very similar. When it boils down, if you love one Zelda game, you'll probably love all of them, just like the Dragon Quest/Warrior series.
Black Isle (and now Bioware) games have ALWAYS had great modding toolsets. Well, with the exception of Mass Effect.
It's good to see this implemented for their latest game.
This review compares Windows 7 to Vista...which is a pointless comparison. A far more valuable comparison would be between 7 and XP, or perhaps between 7 and the other OSs on the market.
Golden Sun is a very good pick, but where are the "Mario & Luigi" RPGs? All three are pure gold. What about Pokemon? Though it's not my personal cup of tea, it's still an RPG.
And Devil Survivor does not belong on that list. Sorry...
Sweet game. Definitely one of those "games as art" sort of games, but whatever. I enjoyed it.
You don't own a PSP? That's too bad. I have two PSPs: a hacked one with an 8 GB stick to play all of the legacy games on emulators (currently playing the fan-translated version of Dragon Quest 6 SNES), and a "normal" PSP to play all of my games on.
But then again, the two handheld systems have been -- in my opinion -- the best bang for your buck this generation....SOOOO many games to choose from.
- Another analog stick
- better graphics (even though the current graphics are pretty dang good)
- mandatory Trophy support
- Online support for any multiplayer games (no more of this ad-hoc network crap. It works in Japan, but everywhere else....you can't find many people)
- PS2 game store
That's what I would personally want.
The next step forward in online gaming?
And to think....you don't have to pay a subscription fee to play the game online.
Insomniac is an awesome developer because they're willing to admit this instead of saying things like "DEFINITIVE"! 24 hours a day.
It's sad that some fanboys will look at this and say "Whaaat? ONLY 2 million? Hahahahahah! Failure!" when games like Mass Effect and Dead rising ONLY sold 2 million, also. And when games like Too Human, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Banjo Kazooie: N&B didn't even manage 1 million.
Just a thought: the end of this year marks the end of the fourth year of the 360.
The 360 only has a three-year warranty.
Although there is no concrete way to prove exact numbers, it would be very logical and safe to assume that a lot of 360s that have been selling have been "repeat" customers who had to replace their broken 360 outside of the warranty.
The console is in decline. Other than Forza 3, the 360 did not have another AAA exclusive for the entire year of 2009 (sorry, but ODST was an expansion pack).
The PS3 dominated every genre other than racing sim (where it had no exclusive) with its exclusives
- FPS (Killzone 2)
- RPG (Demon's Souls)
- Sports (MLB: The Show)
- sandbox (inFamous)
- third-person shooter (Uncharted 2)
- platformer (Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time)
I doubt these numbers, since warranty returns, multiple console purchases, and all that jazz reduces the ACTUAL installed base.
Installed base = one working console in a home.
PS3 shows the most diversity. It has AAA exclusive games from the widest variety of genres.
I stopped at "by far the most popular game system on the market today"...
Another AAA PS3 game.
- best exclusive FPS of the year (Killzone 2)
- best exclusive sports game of the year (MLB: The Show)
- best 3rd person (Uncharted 2)
- best sandbox game (inFamous)
- best console RPG (Demon's Souls)
- and now the best platformer of the year
I know that most people preferred R1:FoM over R2, but personally, I loved R2. I loved the huge battles and the hordes of enemies.
But anyway...good article. Insomniac tends to get a lot of grief for their games because they're either "too much like the previous game" or "not enough like the previous game", but all of their games are a blast to play.
