The only reason why Kotaku is looking forward to 2010 so much is because they were so disappointed that the PS3 smackbottomed the 360 in terms of game quality. They'd like everyone to believe that 2010 is going to be an amazing year - and is is, but not for the reasons they'd like you to believe.
You gotta admit: this list is far more informed and balanced than most lists. Most lists just throw down Lair, Too Human, Haze, and a couple other games. This list actually lists games from almost every platform (although I don't totally agree with every entry on the list).
So now we're complaining about TOO many AAA exclusives on the PS3?
Y'know, you can always go back and play older games. I didn't -- for instance -- play Uncharted 1 or inFamous until several months after they launched.
Most big companies don't innovate. They simply improve, refine, and mass-market ideas that have already been done by smaller games. I can give you a billion examples:
- Bioshock is a poor-man's version of System Shock 2 - Halo Wars is a poor-man's version of an RTS from the '90s - Left 4 Dead is a copy of a community mod - Sonic copied Mario - Sam Fisher copied Solid Snake - etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum
Sadly, the true gamers who played this game and loved it for what it is are forever going to be labeled as "blind Sony fanboys" by the media (because obviously liking Sony = a total fanboy of Sony).
Yet the media couldn't trash this game, even though they so desperately wanted to. Now, they'll just let it fade into the background. Mark my words. Most of this year's GotY awards won't mention or award Killzone 2 ANYTHING. They'll pay attention to Left 4 Dead 2 (lulz), New...
And even if true, who really cares? I -- for one -- never had my eye on this title, even if it WAS exclusive. God of War 3, Heavy Rain, GT5, Resistance 3 (we can assume), Yakuza 3...I can't even list all of the AAA games hitting the PS3 next year.
I love portable systems. I play my PSP more than any of my consoles and PC combined.
As far as the article goes, yes, sometimes the franchises are downgrades, but in many cases they get better. Consider Disgaea 1 and 2 on the PSP: FAR better games than their console counterparts, and the portability is a huge plus. What about PixelJunk Monster Deluxe on the PSP? Again, portability is a huge bonus. LoZ: Phantom Hourglass was (in my opinion) the best Zelda game to come out in years...
I'm not sure, although we do know that it is FAR easier to hack (and therefore cheat) with the 360. I'm sure there are plenty of people on both the PS3 and the 360 who use a game's glitches to cheat, but when it comes to actually hacking a game, I'd bet my bottom dollar that it's far more prominent on the 360 (again, because the system is easy to hack).
Yes, Bioware. Devs pamper us with easy games. It's true. But guess what? They also pamper us with games that aren't glitchy, choppy, take forever to load, have mediocre graphics, and are repetitive. So, get off your high horse.

I apologize that I don't worship Bioware's every action. Forgive me for having standards.
And don't give me that "bu bu bu but millions of people still play those games even to this day" crap. Millions of people still play Wii Sports even to this day. Whoop-dee-doo.

A game "lives up to the hype" if it lives up to the hype. It has nothing to do with sales (unless part of the hype is high sales) or how long it has been played.
Y'know, I'm not sure what to expect from Bungie. Let's face it: they're not the innovative design team they used to be (many of their key leaders and designers have since left the team).
But at the same time, they certainly know how to market a game and put some kick a$$ music in the game.
Yes. Thank you for putting Halo:CE on the list. Not Halo 2 or Halo 3. Those were NOT revolutionary or evolutionary.
The first Halo - however - WAS something special.

Agreed. This game is great.
If you want to see the time when Bioware (then Black Isle) was making REAL RPGs, pick up this game.

Yes, it was overhyped. By YOU, Pete mah boi.
Just like Fable II was overhyped. By YOU!
Bu bu bu but PS3 has teh worst anti-aliasing I thought???

Indie games have always been around, ...

I don't see the source for this news.

Bu bu bu bu bu but Microsoft doesn't have media outlets in their back pocket. This article isn't biased!!!
I laugh. I quietly laugh to myself...
Yet another awesome game to add to the PS3's library.
Variety and Quality. That pretty much sums up the PS3's lineup in '09 and '10.
Uh oh. I can't wait for the "It iz not M so it's a kiddy game!" comments between now and MAG's launch. I can see the EDGE review now....
"There wasn't enough blood, and the game could have used a chainsaw bayonet. So, 7/10."
Why aren't Halo 2 or 3 on that list?
And don't give me that "bu bu bu but millions of people still play those games even to this day" crap. Millions of people still play Wii Sports even to this day. Whoop-dee-doo.

Halo 2 and 3 were hyped as the best ...
*looks at the title*
Wouldn't it be "more THAN Modern", not "more THEN Modern"?
Cool. Let's hope that the gameplay and storyline makes it worth actually playing through.
S-E has been letting me down a lot these past few years. Let's hope FF13 isn't also a letdown...

A Rock Band clone?
