4/5. Or 80%. This seems like a fairer score for the game than the numerous 9/10s and 10/10s it has been getting.
And G4TV also rated the mediocre RE5 a more fair score than the rest of the media, who was throwing 9/10s and 10/10s at it without paying any attention to the game's flaws and lack of innovation.
After playing the demo on both the PS3 and 360, I'd agree with the 4/5 score. It's a decent, but not great, game.
In my opinion, it will be this generation's Shenmue, although I think it will be much more financially successful.
In other words, it will push gaming forward in many ways and will impress a lot of true gamers, but it won't be a mainstream game that the MW2 and Madden players flock to.
I love how - now that the year is coming to a close - lots of "journalists" keep saying "Ohhh, 2009 was okay."
2009 was AMAZING....if you owned a PS3. There were plenty of AAA games to play throughout the ENTIRE year, not to mention all of the great multiplats that came out.
I don't see how Killzone 2 didn't live up to the hype...unless you are counting the sales hype that some fans assigned to it.
Oh wait. The media taking what fans say and chalking it up as "Sony's hype" is part of the Killzone pedigree, since it was the media/fans, NOT Sony who labeled the first Killzone as a "Halo killer".
This just further shows that the media would rather continue to bash KZ2 and/or forget it ever existed instead of (rightly) ad...
The PS3 dominated 2009 for several reasons. For one, it had a large number of AAA games throughout the ENTIRE year, not just at the end. For two, it had AAA games in SEVERAL genres, not just a few. For three, the other two consoles really didn't deliver much.
At the beginning of the year, everyone was talking about Killzone 2 (and sports fans were talking about The Show). In the middle of the year, everyone was talking about inFamous. At the end of the year, everyone is talking a...
Even Microsoft's own supporters (Dyack) are beginning to doubt the "limitless power" of Natal.
The real question is why gamers -- the same gamers who hated the Wii and claimed it has no hardcore games and claimed motion controls were casual and unnecessary -- are suddenly bewitched by Microsoft's PR? Were they stricken with amnesia? Are they not aware that when they hated on the Wii by saying "I don't want to get off my couch and flail my arms to play a video game&...
But to be honest, the games you mentioned are NOT significantly better looking than Gears 2 (which wasn't significantly better looking than Gears 1, by the way).
Has the 360 "peaked"? Semantics, I say. The real question is "will we see another major leap forward in physics and/or graphics on the 360?", and the answer to that question is "likely not".
If people actually based their game purchases on EDGE's scores alone, they would have bought merely three or four 360 exclusives over the past several years.
lol @ Microsoft trying to convince people that Natal is "hardcore".
double lol @ people actually eating up their PR nonsense.
Hardcore games are NOT the easiest to sell. Games with $15 million budgets are the easiest to sell. I can think of plenty of truly hardcore games that have come out this generation that didn't sell as well as the "casual"-er, highly-marketed games.
Two of the largest franchises in the gaming industry are releasing a game exclusive to the PS3 platform: God of War and Gran Turismo. I agree that FF13 is going to be a big game but you're fooling yourself if you think FF13 is going to sell poorly on the PS3 just because it's a multiplatform game.
Edit: since you talked about doubting that Sony would "pull ahead", I assumed you were talking about sales. And the Splinter Cell series has been mediocre this gen so far. I'm...
Yeah, 2010 has a lot of big-name games coming out on a lot of platforms, not just the PSP, PS2, and PS3.
Er, wait. What? Did I just throw the PS2 and PSP in there? I guess many people forget that the PS3 isn't Sony's only platform. Yeah, the PS3 is going to have an amazing 2010, but so will Sony's other two platforms, I'm betting.
So, it's a very safe bet to say that 2010 will be Sony's year, not just because of the incredibly strong lineup on the PS3, but also due ...
Not greatest game ever, but certainly one of the best RPG storylines of all time. It definitely had better characters and a better storyline than most modern "RPG greats" like Obvlivion, Mass Effect, and Fallout 3.
Why do we suddenly care about success and sales this generation?
Did success (or lack thereof) keep the Dreamcast from having so many fans? Did success (or lack thereof) keep people from enjoying all those "underappreciated" games like Terranigma, Beyond Good and Evil, System Shock 2, Planescape: Torment, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, Vagrant Story...the list goes on and on?
"Every single online multiplayer shooter since Halo 2 has been based on Halo 2's online system and matchmaking"
Sorry, but you are dead wrong. Halo 2's matchmaking and online is based on PC FPSs. Yes, Halo 2 was the first and best to do it ON CONSOLES, but PC FPSs were miles ahead of what Halo 2 was doing on consoles.

Meh. I still don't see all the hype for this game. What happened to "It's great, bu bu bu bu but no innovashun!!!"?
The media's new tactic: compare multiplatform games (that will show up on the PS3 anyway) to PS3 exclusives...

And where is MAG on that list? Lulz...
The problem is that the media and fanboys would rather make a blanket statement instead of investigating the facts. Surprise surprise.
Nice list! When I saw the title, I immediately thought to myself "MGS3 and MGS4". Glad to see that those games made the list.
KZ2 deserves any/all media praise it receives.
The media would rather forget this game ever existed, but gamers don't forget so easily.

Once again, journalists miss the mark. Where is MGS: Peace Walker? Where is Gran Turismo?
I mean, just take a look at their Top 3: Bayonetta, Red Dead Redemption, and Mass Effect 2. Really? REALLY?

People worship Bethesda, which is sad. Yes, they make sprawling, interesting games, but their bugtesting is horrible.
