As always, Microsoft takes care of its loyal customers in the best way possible!
And by "takes care of" I mean "pushes away".
And by "in the best way possible" I mean "towards the PS3 or PC".
I do recall Microsoft saying they would support the Xbox even when the 360 came out. Look how THAT turned out.
I do recall Microsoft saying they would continue to expand the backwards compatibility of Xbox titles with the 360. Look how THAT turned out.
I do recall Microsoft saying that the hardware issues with the 360 were "within industry standards" and weren't a big problem. Look how THAT turned out.
In other words, if you believe Microsoft P...
The NXE has reinvigorated support WITHIN the current community of 360 owners. However, you'd be a fool (or a Microsoft PR rep) to believe that NXE is going to move consoles.
The only reason why Microsoft is saying this is because of Sony and Nintendo. Microsoft knows that the 360 can't go the distance like the PS3 and Wii. They know Netflix won't stand up to Blu-Ray (even though their PR reps will say differently). They know the new "casual" direction of the 360 won't ...
So you feel HAPPY that Microsoft dropped support for the Xbox? Hmmmm. That's a new one.
I was an Xbox owner, and I was NOT happy that Microsoft dropped support. I went over to the PS2 and was amazed not only by the huge back catalog of games, but also by the CONTINUED support by 1st-party and 3rd-party developers.
It's quite apparent based on Microsoft's treatment of customers since...oh...the days of Windows 95 (if not earlier) that "Microsoft" and "s...
And yet they mocked Sony because they aim for a 10-year cycle with the PS3.
LOL.
Microsoft will still release a new console in 2010/2011. The RRoD is a big issue that they STILL haven't fixed. If they fix the hardware problems, yeah, they can stay in the race a bit longer, but knowing Microsoft, they'll continue to claim that the wide variety of failures and slowdowns are "within industry standards".
For the sake of Microsoft and for the sake o...
Even if Microsoft was in third as far as sales go, they would still conjure up some obscure way to prove that they are "winning".
But Microsoft, I'm confused! If you are the winners, why do you only have two 1st-party developers? Does any gamer SERIOUSLY want a company like that to win? I'd hope not.
THESE are the exclusive RPGs that 360 owners brag about?
I doubt FF13 will come out in any region other than Japan in 2009. 2010 is a much more realistic estimate.
I always love articles like this. It's good to look back and remember your gaming roots. :)
My vote would have to be Super Mario Bros. The first level is so iconic. Sonic the Hedgehog also had some incredible levels and some incredible music. Too bad the franchise is garbage now.
I'm quite pleased with Sony's strategy. I am not in the least bit upset if a Sony exclusive only sells a few million copies or isn't as popular as it COULD have been. The reality is that Sony's money goes into 1st-party development, and that means more games for us gamers. Advertising money goes into hype that disappears once the game is released.
It's good to see advertising for this game. It deserves all the attention it gets.
On a side note (minor rant)....I'm surprised Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo don't advertise older games, especially when they receive a price drop. For example, when Gears 2 came out, Microsoft should have said "and Gears 1 on sale for $29.99". Or when Resistance 2 came out Sony could have said "See how it all began in Fall of Man for $29.99" or something like that. It would help...
1. I would like to see official sales numbers
2. In the 360's case, sales numbers do not equate to installed base due to the high failure rate of the 360. No, no...I'm not saying that Microsoft counts returned 360s as a sale. However, I AM saying that Microsoft counts "rebuyers" (i.e. former 360 owners with a bricked system who went out and bought another one) as "new customers", which would be incorrect. Also, I have seen several users here on N4G who claim t...
"LBP is not as good as everyone made it out to be"
Why do people confuse high sales with high quality? Is it because they love to brag about Halo and Gears? What about Nintendogs and Mario Kart and Wii Fit? Are THOSE games of the same quality as Halo and Gears, because they've certainly reached the same amount of sales.
It definitely deserves it. There have been plenty of great games this year, but IMO MGS4 and LBP are the two that will stand the test of time. Gears 2 will be overshadowed by Gears 3. Resistance 2 will be overshadowed by Resistance 3. Even Fallout 3 had its flaws and people will probably like Fallout 4/Elder Scrolls 5 more.
LBP and MGS4 -- on the other hand -- will still be remembered fondly even when newer games come out.

Sony needs to take a leaf out of Microsoft's book?
You mean they need to cut all of their 1st-party devs, buy DLC, rush out a faulty system, run out of exclusives, and spend all their money on marketing?
No thanks.
The PS3 definitely gives you more value for your money, but unfortunately it also costs $400 + tax. Though the 360 Arcade is barely playable, it's $200, and a lot of gullible customers are going to see that price and jump on it.
Actually, I take that back. A lot of gullible customers are going to see that price and say "$200? Gee, for only $50 more I could buy a Wii" and they'll go buy a Wii instead.
Xbots love to call game "flops" (as far as sales go) when they run out of other desperate excuses to hate a game. This is exactly what happened with MGS4:
First, "the game suxxx!"
Second, "uh...the game is okay but it's not my kind of game"
Third, "the game will be on the 360! LOLOLOL! stupid PS3 owners!"
Fourth, "uh...the game won't be going multiplatform? uh....YES IT WILL!"

And you think that same logic doesn't apply to the 360? How many of the 360's current sales are directly due to customers re-buying a 360 system after the RRoD, disk scratching, "one light of death", AV cable errors, or one of the many other hardware failures and glitches not covered by warranty?
