Well, I don't know about Sony, but I know that Microsoft always loves to point out that they're the "market leader" or that they're "in first place" using whatever convoluted grading scale they fabricate. Perhaps it's easier to claim being "numbah one!" when the company that's completely slaughtering you isn't "competition".
Metacritic clearly shows that LBP and MGS4 are cutting Gears 2 and Fable 2 in two parts.

Super Mario Galaxy is in every way superior to SM64. Don't let nostalgia cloud your eyes. Whereas the 2D Mario games (yes, even SMB2) each have their own unique mechanics, SM64 is completely overshadowed by Galaxy.
People hate SMB2 but look at what it did for the series. Compare it to "Lost Levels: (which is the "real" SMB2 I guess you could say). Lost Levels did absolutely nothin...
Oh wow. I'm amazed that MGS4 won. It certainly deserves mentioning because it's a phenomenal game, but I'm very surprised that it beat out fanboy-favorites such as Halo, OoT, and FF7.
I am quite sad to see such a lack of PC games on that list. There are so many underrated and unknown PC games that knock the socks off of 99% of console games.

I hate how "PC gaming" is always equated to "tons of upgrading". It's not true. Yes, if you want to play the newest games, you'll have to do at least one $100-$200 upgrade every two years or so, and then a major upgrade every 4 or 5 years.
However, "PC gaming" should also be equated to "biggest library of backwards-compatible games". "PC gaming" should be equated to "biggest library of free games". "PC gaming" ...
I love how so many games that have excellent multiplayer but hum-ho single player are massacred by video game reviewers. Yet, there will always be a select few games (like Halo 3 and now L4D) that for some odd reason are allowed to dodge this bullet.
The really sad part is that if Sony and Nintendo don't have "system sellers", how in the world have they been outselling the 360 all this year?

It's odd how many people view this as some sort of anomaly or problem, as if a game selling more on the PS3 needs to be quantified and explained, like a UFO sighting or a hallucination.
Some games sell more on some systems. This particular instance is just further proof that not EVERY game has to sell more on the 360 just because.....the media says so. Seriously, though. Soccer (or "football" for most parts of the world) games sell much better on PS3 hardware than on 36...

I'm still waiting for them to "deal" with disc scratching, total hardware failures, AV cable failures, power brick failures, etc.

Perhaps for my grandmother, yes. For most people? No. Perhaps it's not as easy to "install" as the snap-on-snap-off 360 hard drive, but I'm willing to deal with a "piss hard" installation instead of paying a $100 premium on a simple hard drive.

It's a sad day for gaming when journalists feel the need to compare every new FPS to Halo.
Newsflash: Halo is not (nor was it ever) the Gold Standard for the FPS genre, just like Pokemon isn't the Gold Standard for RPGs even though it sells the most. Get over it.
The fact that they nominated Fable II for "Best Writing" (not to mention Best RPG and GotY) and Too Human got a nomination for "Most innovative" shows how pathetic this list truly is.
And where are Siren and WipeOut HD for "Best Downloadable"?
