Nice read. Insomniac is definitely one of the top developers out there. And I'm glad that they've branched out of the R&C series. It's not a bad series, but I like seeing their creative abilities applied to the FPS genre a la Resistance.
Though the Wii is certainly not a "hardcore" gaming console on the same level as the PS3 and 360, I do feel that so-called "Nintendo fans" have abandoned Nintendo. Or perhaps they're just trying to justify the fact that they abandoned the Wii and picked a PS3 or 360 (which is fine. To each his/her own).
I mean, there are plenty of times when I've talked to gamers about the Wii and they just mock it. Not everyone has to love the Wii, but I'm always curious why ...
And this is why, my dear friends, "digital distribution" won't be able to trump Blu Ray. Even if DD starts to edge out Blu Ray (which it isn't. DD is at .5% and Blu Ray is at about 10-12$), Sony has a lockdown on a lot of the movie houses.
Well played, Sony. Well played. A bit underhanded, but now 360 owners know what it's like to get burned by exclusive DLC and times exclusives.
This is an interesting article, since a lot of devs seem to be using UE3 nowadays and a lot of them swear by it. I'm curious why devs still license it despite the issues. Perhaps the availability supersedes the convenience.
@ tatoti and FirstKn1ght
Once again, you take a comment where I did not once mention Sony, Nintendo, Apple, or any other company, and then you turn it around and make a slam against the PS3.
Nice job. Fanboyism at its finest. I guess you have nothing pertinent to say, do you?
Interesting. I would like to see developers take advantage of this a bit more, since it's obvious that the (potential) audience is there. How cool would it be to share content between LittleBigPlanet and the (rumored) PSP LittleBigPlanet?
@ likedamaster
Lol. Thanks for the underhanded spin. What you failed to report is that in the L4D thread where I "spam", I'm simply pointing out that the reviewer gave the game's issues a free pass. I also mention how I personally enjoyed the game. In some other L4D threads where they give the game a "better" score (IMO) like an 8/10, I comment that I appreciate the author pointing out the flaws in the game.
If my comments are spam, then so too ar...
@ Sprud
Well, I'm sure the number of Gold LIVE members is still pretty high. However, Microsoft loves to pad its numbers in any way possible (yet they conveniently leave out other numbers like RRoD fail rate) to impress their shareholders.
@ blindfromthesun
Where did I say that I hated the game? If I said that, then excuse the typo, because I LOVE the game. The co-op is a lot of fun (Extreme is the ONLY way to play this game, IMO) and the online runs smoothly.
However, I am pointing out that 1up (among other reviewers) are giving the game's flaws a free pass due to a few fun aspects. The game is intense, but it lacks content. The game is fun, but the graphics are poor. There is a double-standard in the...
Dom and Marcus turn on a lot of 360 owners. Hence, high sales.
Don't deny it.
This is good news, but what I'd like to see is how many active users are on PSN. I'd like to see them tally up the number of users who turn on their PSN...let's say...2 or more times a week. Something like that would be nice.
On the flip side (because I know that the number of LIVE users is around this number, too), I'd like to know how many 360 owners are Gold users, because Microsoft also counts Silver members in their calculations.
1. A story I can take seriously
2. Characters I can take seriously
3. Plot twists that are actually plot twists instead of predictable cliches
4. Better matchmaking
5. Larger battles
Yes, please.
IMO, XBL doesn't ban enough.
But that's what happens when you have a paid service. As long as the a$$holes keep paying, Microsoft lets them keep playing.
I'm curious how you come to the conclusion that PSN couldn't handle this game's co-op when Resistance 2 already handles DOUBLE the players (or even 60 players if you want to count competitive modes) in the co-op mode. Not to mention the fact that R2's co-op takes place in bigger levels with better graphics, more bullets on the screen, more AI calculations, and more enemies.
The $200 Arcade unit (that Xbots love to brag about) raises its hand and says "Hi!".
@ iHEARTboobs
If that's the case then Sony wins. I can't see Microsoft supporting the 360 for much longer.
That's all you ever say.
And I thought Gears 2 was confirmed GotY 2008...
Omega, if Microsoft only payed for review scores of games that it published, they'd pay off about 1 or 2 games a year. Everyone knows that Microsoft's life is in the hands of 3rd-party devs.
Yet another free pass for the bad graphics and lack of content. It's sad to see our gaming media becoming so ineffective. Let's watch reviewers give Killzone 2 8.5/10 and 9/10 for graphics because "uh...I didn't like the art style".
@ dirtrider
If the game was on the PS3, PS3 owners would probably still be playing R2. The fact that this game is not on the PS3 does add some fuel to the flamewars, but it doesn't negate the fact that it has a ton of flaws.
