2009 is yet another great year to be a PS3 owner.

How can Sonic fans still defend the series after seeing stuff like this?

I'm quite surprised at such a good score.

Oh wait. It's 1up. It looks like they overlooked the bugs, crashes, and average graphics once again and gave yet another game a pass.

Wow. Even 1up gave this game a bad score. It must be TERRIBLE.

Oh wait. I take that back. A C+ is a 75-79/100 compared to the 4.5s and 5s that other reviewers have given it. Lulz. 1up fails hard once again.

Interesting article. At the end Koller talks about the possibility of "hybrid disks" where a PS3 game disk might have some extra game demos or movie trailers thrown onto the disk. We're actually already seeing this. Dead Space on the PS3 had two other high-profile EA games on the disk in the form of demos: Burnout and Bad Company. Keep in mind that these demos were not available on the 360 version of the disk.

I wonder why XBox owners are quick to say "360 version looks better!" when less than a week ago they were ranting and raving about how "gameplay is more important than graphics" in defense of Left 4 Dead's sup-par appearance. Hmmmm.

Uncharted, please. I'll take that any day of the week over this.

I don't think the issue here is "Was he cheating or not?" which is what so many of you seem to be arguing.

The real issue is how dismissive Microsoft was of his complaint. All they said was "it's abnormal for someone to get such a high score so quickly", as if to say "We didn't actually investigate the problem. We simply made a decision based on statistics and it looks like you're screwed".

I would not say that the 360 is doing extremely well this gen. They are going okay, but as I said before you'd be hard-pressed to find something that Microsoft has made their own. If anything, they do an excellent job of SEEMING like they're doing well, but their sales are just as good as the original Xbox. Yet the RRoD and rampant hardware problems are going to nip the 360's success by quite a bit.

Personally, I would not like for Microsoft to dominate the gaming industry. Histo...

Exactly. Developers have a finite amount of time and resources, but luckily "open world" is a very marketable term. This is why GTA4 was a letdown for a lot of people. The "open world" aspect wasn't fresh and new like it was in GTA3, and most people weren't impressed by the average graphics, average controls, and mediocre storyline. I'm worried about a lot of upcoming open-world games such as Alan Wake, Prototype, and inFamous because I'm not quite ...

But Microsoft isn't in the lead. Nintendo is. If you want to talk about the "movers and shakers" in the video game industry, those companies would be Sony and Nintendo. Microsoft simply copy-pasted the PC model of online gaming and applied it to a console. You'd be hard-pressed to name more than four or five innovations that Microsoft has pushed this generation. In fact, the vast majority of Microsoft's successes both on the XBox and on the 360 come from 3rd-party developers (Biowar...

This may sound weird and crazy...

But I actually LIKE it when games have an install option. Most multiplatform games are the exception to that since the install rarely adds any benefit, but there are a lot of games that cut down on the pop-in and load times if you install them on your PS3.

I don't complain if there ISN'T an install, and games like Uncharted have proven that you can have huge, gorgeous game worlds on the PS3 with no install required, but I still like ...

It would be interesting, but there is already a fair amount of customization available on the current XMB. You can even download these user-made themes through the PS3's web browser. I currently have a Super Mario World theme complete with custom icons from various Mario games. I also have a user-made Metal Gear Solid theme that uses sounds from the franchises for menu navigation. I would say that the quality of these themes rivals that of official themes from the PSN store.

Best...

GlossGreen, if you have any knowledge of Microsoft's history and business practices, you would know that M$ supporting a product after their new product comes out is incredibly unlikely. And I'm not simply saying "LOL! LOOK @ WUT TEHY DID WITH TEH XBOX!!" Take a look at Microsoft's other business ventures and the same is true there, too.

I'm pretty sure they're selling at the same rate, actually.

But that's kind of sad when you consider how the Xbox came out late in the last generation and faced competition from Sony and Nintendo whereas the 360 came a full year earlier in the generation and faced competition-free sales.

Nice article. I'm not a huge fan of open-world games (though I do like a few) because many of them end up being a chore. They pack in a ton of content without any organization. They pack in a ton of missions without any emotional connection. They pack in a bunch of characters that the player doesn't care about. Open-world games are the epitome of "quality sacrificed for quantity". There are a few exceptions, yes, but for the most part open-world games suck. I'd rather spend my time ...
