It does seem unlikely, but then again, it seemed unlikely that Bungie would split from Microsoft before...you know...they did.
It just goes to emphasize the great importance of strong 1st-party and 2nd-party support this gen. You just can't rely on 3rd parties anymore.
@ Jenzo
Oh, so the PS3 is supposed to be ahead by now? Give me a break. 360 fanboys such as yourself were pointing fingers at Sony and laughing, saying, "Gwaahaa! 360 sells more! 360 sells more!" ignoring the fact that the PS3 is twice the price.
And NOW that the PS3 manages to sell as much as a console half the price, the best you can muster is "Well...uh...I thought you fanboys said the PS3 was going to be ahead. Well...uh...it only managed to sell t...
@ SlappingOyster
"I would have thought that the Wii was textbook example of your last two points. The first one is valid though "
Oversaturation of the market and crappy games? I still don't think we're to the point where it was in the '80s. The "oversaturation" I'm referring to was the oversaturation of video game consoles. Around the time of the crash there were...5 or 6? I wasn't alive during that time but I think that's about right. The "...
The Wii won't cause a crash. Period. Anyone who knows their history knows that the crash of '83 was mainly caused by three things:
- lack of market expansion
- oversaturation of the market
- crappy games
If anything, multi-million dollar, 10-year-development-cycle games such as Too Human bombing (or Haze, or Lair, or take your pick out of many recent games) is what will kill the industry. As bad as it sounds, the Wii is great for companies to make a good ...

Incorrect. Microsoft reported 10.3 million 360 units sold in 2008. Sony reported 10.8 million units sold in 2008.
LOL. Let the FUD flow. Now that Sony announced that PS3 sales in 2008 were higher than Microsoft's reported sales, the biased websites are rushing out the gates to play damage control.
News flash: EVERY company (except for Nintendo) has been hit by the financial crisis.
The day that so-called "video game journalists" stopped reporting on video games and started focusing on quarterly reports, year-over-year increases, and market share is the day that I stop...
Oh Kotaku...you never pass up on a chance to rag on Sony.
So let me ask you: if Sony is in a sales slump, where does that put Microsoft? After all, the PS3 outsold the 360 in 2008. Where's your article about that?
Er, excuse me. I guess I got Kotaku mixed up with a website that...you know...isn't biased and doesn't feed fanboy flame wars.
The concave design of the 360 is what led to overheating issues in the first place. Now they want to make it even slimmer? Microsoft, until you sort out the RRoD issues that's practically BEGGING for a RRoD epidemic.
@ Rampant
I think it's equally ignorant not to congratulate the PS3 for outselling the 360 in 2008, even at a higher price point.
I think it's equally ignorant not to mention that Microsoft has been closing 1st-party studios and cutting loose 2nd-party studios while Sony continues to strengthen their 1st and 2nd-party lineup.
I think it's ignorant to turn to profit percentages and year-over-year increases to evaluate the success of a console. Don't tell ...
@ Rampant
Oh Lord. 3 billion? What does that say about Microsoft's 8+ BILLION loss on the Xbox division alone?
BU-BU-BUT TEH PRICE CUT!
And yet, Sony's gaming division pulled a profit this year. Bu bu bu but I'm sure Sony will just close down the PS3 because...you know...it's teh doomed.
MrWeymes
Of course MGS4 didn't sell as much as Halo 3, although it did sell 3-4 million last time I checked. Is THAT the premise of your article? Oh, Sony exclusives don't sell above 5 million, therefore they need more advertising. If that's the case, you're an idiot. Even 1 million in sales is awesome. 3 million in sales is fantastic. To say "Oh, this and that Sony exclusive didn't sell as much as Gears 2 or Halo 3" is silly.
Hah. Wow. Sony beat the 360 two years in a row....which console is "teh doomed" now? I'm amazed that they beat the 360 in 2008 despite TWO price drops on behalf of the 360. Haters officially have no excuses now.

So (just out of curiosity), why are people allowed to hype Fable II, BK: Nuts and Bolts, Too Human, and Ninja Gaiden? None of those games lived up to the hype. Heck, why were people allowed to hype up Halo 3? If 360 gamers are growing uncomfortable in the face of Killzone 2, too bad. Let gamers hype up the big games. "Video game journalists" shouldn't try to play "hype police" simply because they have a personal vendetta against a particular game or console.

I agree that it looks good visually, but it doesn't look THAT good. I mean, does it look good compared to the likes of Killzone 2 or Alan Wake? I don't think so.
If that's the case, then RE5 needs to be LESS like RE4. The game is basically RE4 with a fresh coat of paint and that's it. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but Dead Space was a true step forward in the 3rd-person genre and the survival-horror genre. The RE series could learn some things from Dead Space.
I'm actually surprised at some journalists defending RE5 (based on the demo) when these same journalists will tear into other games for similar issues like their control schemes o...
These articles are getting so old. The "bu bu bu but stand-alone Blu Ray players are down to $250 or less" is pointless. Anyone notice the "stand-alone" in that statement? The PS3 isn't a stand-alone Blu Ray player, so why should it be as cheap as one??
People don't complain about the 360 Elite being $350. Apparently $350 for a system without Blu Ray or built-in Wi-Fi is acceptable, but $50 extra for a system WITH Blu Ray and WITH built-in Wi-Fi is just TOTALLY u...
The "Badass" and "Armageddon" fads are silly. Gamers wonder why video games are still considered toys yet they shower praise upon Master Chief, Marcus Fenix, and Niko Bellic as being pinnacles of character development. Heck, video game journalists do the same thing. They called GTA4 "on par with The Godfather" but when I actually sat down and played the game all I saw was a poor imitation of "Stomp the Yard" except instead of a dance-off you babysat Lit...
Next up: Halo Tennis.
And the worst part is that the fanboys would still worship the franchise...
