It's common knowledge that both politics and public media are corrupt. Very few people would contest this fact. However, when it comes to gaming media, why is it so odd when people point out corruption and bias? Are video game journalists unbiased? Is there some sort of "fanboy screening process" that prevents fanboys from writing video game news?
I'm sorry that you're too blind to see media biases. I'm sure Fox News provides all the news ...
Agreed. According to their logic, you NEED a PC to play World of Warcraft. According to their logic, you NEED a PS3 to play Resistance 2, KZ2, and LBP (and to use Home).
Simply replace any instance of "Fable II", "Halo 3", or "Gears 2" with a PC or PS3 title and the article is just as valid. In other words, ANY platform provides a great online experience.
Anyone else remember the anti-PS2 media long ago?

Sony has been dealing with biased press since they owned the world with PS1.
It's true, but the gaming press won't own up to it. If someone calls them out on it, they'll just laugh nervously and say "Well...y...YOU are the fanboy, you...fanboy. YOU'RE the biased one! Yeah..." and completely avoid...

Yes, the PS3 isn't beating the Wii in Japan. However, it's beating the 360, and isn't that what we're talking about here? The 360 is in dead last place in Japan. Period. It's behind. It's 2 million consoles behind, despite the huge number of exclusive JRPGs.
To say, "Well....nya nya! The PS3 isn't #1, either! You...you FANBOYS said it would be ahead...well...well...nya! It's NOT!" is completely and totally childish. It skirts the issue at ha...
$50 a year for Xbox LIVE and yet it still uses a p2p network. Forget cross-game chat. Forget Avatars. Those things don't matter to me. Why should I pay a $50 fee for the BASIC ability to play multiplayer when you can get it for free on another console that DOESN'T use a laggy p2p network?
Gripe and moan all you want. Call me a fanboy all you want. $50 a year for p2p servers is a scam, especially when you can get dedicated servers for free on another platform.
Although many will defend RE5 saying that the controls are "classic" RE controls, that's a lie. "Classic" RE controls would be within fixed-camera environments.
I don't remember anyone complaining about "classic" controls when Halo: Combat Evolved came out and revolutionized console FPS controls. I don't remember anyone complaining about "classic" controls when the Fight Night boxing game or Skate game revolutionized controls in their respe...
So now you can play Halo with racist, potty-mouthed 8-year-olds ON the 360 and OFF the 360!
Keep in mind that the 20:1 sales ratio you're talking about was at the very end of last generation. We're into the third year of the current generation, so I don't see how the same logic applies.
@ ericnellie
We're talking about Japan here. Need I remind you that "the tide" is in the PS3's favor, therefore there's no need to turn it? Hardware and software "sells" are in the PS3's favor in Japan, so if you want to play this game, well...you've already lost it.
@ Kushan
I know that Japanese gamers have different tastes. However, if a console (the 360, in this case) has an overwhelming number of games that directly cater to those...
@ cain141
Please. Kill me the day that owning both consoles somehow automatically validates a fanboy's opinion.
I'm still holding out for "Halo Kart" and "CortanaWare: Smooth Moves".
@ Kushan
My issue wasn't about month-to-month sales. The article said that this game "may be the one to turn the tide". Let me remind you that "the tide" is a 2-million lead that the PS3 has over the 360, despite the 360's 1-year head start.
Why do we have to quantify the 360's success? If the 360 cost $200 more than the PS3, then fine, I'd say it's okay. But the 360 is cheaper, it has more JRPGs, and it has been out longer. The best excuse people...
Ace Combat will turn the tide.
Blue Dragon will turn the tide.
Lost Odyssey will turn the tide.
Devil May Cry 4 going multiplat wiil turn the tide.
Infinite Undiscovery will turn the tide.
Tales of Vesperia will turn the tide.
The Last Remnant will turn the tide.
Sound familiar? Has the tide turned? Yeah, didn't think so. Not to mention the fact that not only was Star Ocean 3 disappointing, but every S-E game on the 360 has been average at best...
And for Alan Wake. I'm puzzled by journalists who place Alan Wake and SC: Conviction in 2009.
Anyone else notice how the "Rumor Killers" will put pro-PS3 rumors as "Unlikely" whereas most pro-360 rumors are "Highly Likely"? Like when that unannounced Metal Gear game was announced (later to be announced for mobile phones or iTouch or something) they pinned it as "highly likely" that it would come to the 360. Hmmm.
They say:
"Capcom knows this game will be too big to leave added missions (for example) on one platform...
@ Foxgod
Metal Gear: first released in the middle of 1987. 11 games (and that's counting spin-offs) across multiple platforms by multiple companies in 22 years. If you narrow it down to games only relating to the main storyline arc, you have 7 games across 22 years, or one game every 3 years on average.
Halo Combat Evolved: first released at the end of 2001. 4 games in 7 years across two platforms by one company.
EDIT: Lol. Using expansions and unrelease...
Are the complaints legitimate? Maybe. I wouldn't be the first to say that reviewers need to:
1) Review the GAME, not what the game COULD be
2) Be consistent
Even still, I think that docking the game is a legitimate action. I do. HOWEVER, what about the reviews for Left 4 Dead? Were the graphics average? Yup. Was there a storyline? Nope. Yet, when reviews came around they all say "Eh, we can give this game a pass. Storyline doesn't matter". Reviewers s...
I hope Sony announces some new games, but even if they don't there are still plenty of potentially-AAA titles coming down the pipeline, both in the way of exclusives and multiplatform games. It's good to see the media giving the PS3 the respect it has fought tooth-and-nail for these past years.
Quote:
"While 2008 helped put some of that criticism to rest, 2009 is looking like it will put all of that criticism to rest permanently."
Very true.
Was it worth the wait? I definitely think so, and the reasons are simple:
It's FREE social networking "game/chatroom/Myspace page" that is unlike anything previously on consoles. Period. It runs smoothly without massive amounts of lag or without getting kicked off the server all the time, and it is FREE. It has plenty of people online at any given moment. It continues to add more content (both personal content like clothes, furniture, etc but also the "rooms" ...
@ kevincox
I agree that if the PS3 should be "saved" from something, it should be saved from 3rd place...wait...3rd place?
3rd place in what? Yearly sales? Errr...nope. It's ahead of Microsoft on that one (360's first two years: 13 million; PS3's first two years: 18 million). 3rd place in developers? Sony has 20+ devs to match Microsoft's 4 developers. 3rd place in hardware quality, maybe? Er, I don't think ANYONE wants to argue that one.
So, ...
