The problem is that there isn't anyone to hold reviewers accountable. Worse yet, a "controversial" review gets as many site hits as a legitimate review, and sometimes it generates even MORE hits.
But no one holds the media accountable. That's just how it is.
I'm puzzled that they would put an unreleased game on the list. To me, that just screams fanboyism, since it's obvious they had a lot of untrue and negative things to say about KZ2 leading up to their review.
CoD4 seemed to get a free pass without co-op, even though NOW it seems EVERY game simply MUST have it or it's a FAILURE. What about Bioshock? Why did THAT game get a free pass?
And it's not like there's no multiplayer. There's 32-player matches, which is double ...
^^^^ @ Foxgod
Shouldn't we be making a bet about which one scores higher on metacritic, which one has more features, or which one is less glitchy?
I mean, THOSE are the things gamers care about. Sales are what stockholders and fanboys care about. Now, you're not a fanboy, are you?
@ Foxgod
So....sales make a good game? Because last time I checked, Wii Fit wasn't the best game ever made, nor is The Sims the best franchise ever made, nor is Pokemon the best RPG ever made.
And despite Halo 3's excellent sales, most gamers would agree that it was fairly disappointing. It wasn't true HD. The textures were bland. The campaign was bland. It was missing several FPS-standard features (such as looking down the iron sights and a "run" button). ...
Another excellent review. Further proof that this game wasn't "nothing but graphics" or "nothing but hype".
Congrats, GG. You delivered. Haters weep.
So the controls turned out. That's awesome. Congrats to Ensemble (r.i.p) for making a viable RTS on consoles. I hope console gamers will warm to the RTS genre like many PC gamers already have, because it's a fun and rewarding genre.
"The controls flowed easily and (I have to say) it was easier to control than most PC RTS games."
I don't care what anyone says. If the above statement is true, that's all I needed to know. Console gamers deserve to enjoy the awesome RTS genre, and even if it's through the Halo franchise (which I don't particularly care for anymore...) then that's awesome.
And the 8/10 was for the demo, not for the full game. The author gave it an 8/10 due to a lack of mult...
It's Halo. Of course people will care. It could be called "Halo: Water Polo" and people would still care, and I'm not trying to sound negative. I'm just reaffirming the series' popularity.
My biggest question is how LONG this game will be. Bungie said it was going to be a budget $30 title or something like that. I'd hate to wait all year for a 4-hour long spin-off.
EDIT @ Blaze below
To my understanding, OSDT will have a different setup. It'll be...
Gears of War on this list but no Halo or Shadow of the Colossus? Whatever. Everyone's list is different. Some of the titles (like Force Unleashed) don't deserve a spot, I think.
I am quite disappointed that they largely ignored the PC, though. Where is X-COM? Where is Star Control II? Ultima? Baldur's Gate? Unreal Tournament? Where is System Shock 2? They put far too many of the Mega Man games on there. These lists usually end up with pretty much the same top 10. I almost want so...
Well, Xbox Live isn't directly to blame for this problem. Pedophiles -- unfortunately -- will use any and every means of accessing children to their advantage. However, it does need to be mentioned that XBox Live has a horrible reporting system for these sorts of things. Worse yet, Microsoft has made it clear in the past that they really don't give a rip as long as someone is a paying Xbox Live customer.
Buy a Wii. This game is one of my most-anticipated games, if for no other reason than it was made by Vanillaware, the developers of Odin Sphere. THAT right there is reason enough to pay attention to it. I hope the Wii haters pay attention to this game. Oh, but they won't...
@ panasonic
Who mentioned Sony? I was talking about the 360.
Y'know, it really betrays your insecurity when you interpret every criticism of the 360 as some kind of anti-Microsoft, Sony fanboy rant.
Out of all the things the 360 did right in 2008, I can't help but be disappointed by the fact that the majority of big-name 360 titles were very glitchy. Too Human, Fable II, Gears 2, Left 4 Dead, and Ninja Gaiden 2 were all pretty dang glitchy. Banjo Kazooie was the only game that wasn't too glitchy, but unfortunately I didn't find that game too fun to begin with. What's up with that?
The author also mentioned "superior downloadable content". Uhhh....WHAT content? The ...
Ah, fantastic. I first played this game when it was version 0.6 something, and I always load it up every once in a while to take down some Vaegir scum! Any self-respecting gamer should at least TRY this game.
Halo certainly caused a revolution ON CONSOLES. If Halo had been an FPS for the PC, it would have been a relatively mediocre title compared to other games such as Tribes 2, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex, and so forth. Halo's influence was not in gameplay nor storyline, but rather in controls and later in online play (with Halo 2 spearheading that endeavor).
Halo deserves SOME credit, but to say that Halo revolutionized FPSs would be a slap in the face of every self-respecting PC gam...
May I remind everyone here that although Halo 3 is the highest-selling 360 game to date, the number of consoles sold didn't increase exponentially.
Don't get me wrong. Console sales of the 360 DID increase, but not by much. My point is that sometimes even popular games fail to become "system sellers".
Still, the PS3 already has two (if not more) system sellers: they're called "Blu Ray" and "the Playstation brand".
Awesome deal. I hope 360 gamers take advantage of it. Too bad this is just a "sale" and not a permanent drop on the subscription price.
Hmmm. If I recall correctly, most of the so-called "headlines" regarding Home last year were about how it would suck, how it would be delayed again, how it wouldn't live up to expectations, how it was a waste of time, and how it wouldn't matter since PSN is teh sux compared to Xbox Live.
Now that Home is out and it pretty much shut the mouths of all those naysayers...yeah, I guess you could say that "there's nothing to say", at least, not along the sames lines...
I'm interested to see how this game turns out. No, not because I'm a huge Halo fan (I jumped that ship not long after Halo 2 came out), but because I'm a huge RTS fan and I think every gamer (even console gamers) deserve to experience this very fun and rewarding genre. Yeah, it might be awhile before console gamers get to experience more sophisticated titles like Sins of a Solar Empire, Dawn of War, or a TRUE version of Supreme Commander, but you gotta start somewhere...
LOL. I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw the headline and thought "Like Star Wars? You mean it'll be milked to death, MS?"
MS touts their creativity and innovation so often. Sometimes I'd like to actually SEE it in the form of a new IP instead of yet another Halo game.
