Day one purchase: check
I hope people remake or expand upon the classic user created maps like Zergling Blood and Zone Control.
I'll be doing my fair share of melee and team matches though.
Sorry PS3, but you're going to have to take a backseat to the G.O.A.T. come next year...for a long time if it turns out how I hope it will at that.
I've heard much talk around the internet about it losing momentum in the future and falling into the "fad" category, but I'm just not seeing it that way myself.
A kid is born everyday folks, and other kids are turning 6, 7, 8 all those other days, and what else? Birthdays and holiday seasons, both mean presents to 99% of families out there. Even if one Jimmy Walmart gets bored of his Wii, the next up and comer hasn't played one and think it's the coolest thing in the ...
it's because some consumers don't care to be nickeled and dimed, that's why.
For me personally, I don't like the idea of purchasing small nuances like costume packs, weapons, and little things like that. I recently saw the new goblin pack for spider-man on the PSN. Just not my cup of tea. I haven't even bought the Resistance map pack, it just doesn't seem worth it when the PC community has been trading mods and maps for over a decade now for free, created by other users and mor...
I really hope so.
Based on the reception the games gotten up to this point, I really don't think I speak for just myself when I say I'd be satisfied if it came out tomorrow looking like the E3 build...but in all honesty the E3 build had me salivating at the though of completely surpassing the trailer.
The Helghast models and animations were one of the few things that were WAY better than what was displayed in the trailer, and we didn't even see a smidgen of a fir...
For 30 million dollars, 2 gigs RAM, and 15 gigs of memory, this doesn't(ironically) seem like a whole lotta game...I certainly hope it's good, as I'd like to play a decent third person action title this year.
Maybe I should wait for S.O.C.O.M.?
otherwise I'll be getting OWNED all day long. This is just fantastic, expands the userbase by an exponential rate! Shouldn't be as difficult to find games with the millions that are sure to soak this up on the PC.
Looks to be a good Christmas this year, nice.
That's a creative visionary right there, blends perfectly with what the PS3 already has and just looks like it's in another league in comparison to the current version.
If I was one of the top guns at Sony, I would PAY this guy to use this template. Nice work.
and you're right on the money.
It seems they're trying a little to hard to grasp at that bottom line I think...
Many doubters said that a $100.00 price drop wouldn't do the trick, but apparently it did(over 300,000 consoles later...), so they should really consider just scrapping the Motorstorm deal and getting back to 499.
There's no doubt in my mind that the PS3 will be among the 10 hottest holiday items this season, and this price point seems to...
What's even funnier is that some folks are taking it seriously. Come on people, sense of humor? Should be able to tell by the name at least. A little satire doesn't hurt...
"its proven by and far so far that the only reason companies are saying that blu ray is needed beyond being paid by sony to do so is that they use uncompressed every thing and dont optimize their code."
Where has that ever been proven? Please enlighten me. If you're going to use Resistance as an example, don't bother, I know about the filler, and that stuff only utilized less than 1% of total asset space.
Besides, In all honesty, I don't think there's o...
Which brings to light the fact that GPU RAM isn't exactly optimal for a CPU, and with that you have yet another dilemma on your hands.
Both systems have strengths and weaknesses folks...can we leave it at that?
Compression isn't free, it takes effort, and said data needs to be decompressed anyway, so think of it like this.
One dev can spend their time figuring out what to include and utilizing their time to compress the data, and then allocating resources to decompress that data, and another can add whatever they deem necessary and then have time to optimize their code, without having to worry about disc space.
There's tradeoffs involved in both processes.
There's too many games showcasing what's under the hood this generation...so there really is no excuse for sports developers to play it safe.
Sad really, it's the same thing happening to the fighting genre. The whole world is hyped for Doa5, Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur...but in actuality I'm sure they'll play the way they have for...I don't know, the past 7 years or so?
I would've liked to have a headset for Resistance, and some of the comments people made during the Warhawk beta were downright hilarious. Needless to say, teamwork wouldn't be a guessing game with headsets, and with Killzone 2 on the horizon....count me in, although my money's on a delay for KZ.
Bought APF a couple days ago, and while a stellar game, unquestionably miles and miles above NCAA/Madden in terms of gameplay, it's STILL a rehash of 2K5. Sorry, but in 3 years, that's just unacceptable.
I like 2K Sports, and they seem to be a hard working, shoot for the moon kind of dev, but there were some obvious conflicts of interests about this game. In 3 years, a completely new engine from the ground up should have been built, the fps shouldn't even have been an afterthou...
and the fighting franchise for that matter, easily the most sub-par of the latest 3D fighters. In fact, the only recent fighter that's worse than DoA is Mortal Kombat. If games like Tobal, Bushido Blade, ANY of Capcom or SNK's old 2D brawlers were still around, DoA wouldn't even be a blip on the radar. As for Ninja Gaiden, good game, no doubt...but we'll see about the second one. All I've gotta say, is that it better blow everything and ANYTHING out of the water the way he's talking, and I se...
licensing for Chow Yun Fat and John Woo? Maybe
This game just doesn't have the pedigree of a 30 million dollar game, period. It looks fun, no doubt, but there's nothing new about this game, nothing different, it doesn't even use it's own proprietary engine for crying out loud!
When you look at games as refined and detailed as Gears, Killzone, MGS4, and Mass Effect...I can't help but snicker at the thought of this.
Sorry, I know money won't make a g...
I think all this "Halo 2.5" or sub-par graphics nonsense is just testament to that the series has been over-hyped.
I don't mean over-hyped in the sense of a crappy franchise made to look good by a bunch of shills, but rather, a quality franchise that people put on an ENTIRELY too high pedestal these days. I like Halo myself, and last summer me and several co-workers had LAN parties for Halo on a near-daily basis, but the thing is, as much fun as it was, it's not the g...
I hope that Guerrilla games does the same after the release of Killzone, especially after what we've heard about the lighting engine.
I think it's safe to say that a good chunk of the technology behind Killzone will find it's way out there though, simply because of the number of outsourced developers working on the project.
We're in for one Hell of a ride this generation.
Remember all the great fun to be had from the Starcraft maps that the COMMUNITY themselves created? Damn, those were the days...with all the mods people threw together with Stargraft and such, fantastic and we got some real GEMS that were all free and loads of fun. User created DLC is where it's at and where it's BEEN for well over a decade now...one of the big 3 needs to get on the ball and realize this, and start packaging editors/mod support with their multiplayer games.
Hel...
