Nothing about that video except maybe the size of the levels screams out next gen to me. Killzone 3 looks better than that, although KZ3 levels are tiny compared to this. I also realize that there are way better BF4 videos out there that look better than KZ3, but this is not one of them.

It's going to take a lot to gain the trust of gamers, Indie developers and retail outlets. I don't think reversals of policies will make it as good as just announcing this stuff to begin with. Microsoft showed their hand early, and we know what they ideally want. Don't be fooled. Not that they will go back on these reversals, but we know want their business model was going to be, and where they want it to be.
If Naughty Dog takes to the stage for almost anything PS4 related, I'll be happy.
Neither were great, but man.... I'd much rather not have the useless journalist go than an actual game developer. Journalists are a dime a dozen. Who cares if someone doesn't answer that kind of question. Can't they just go out and let them make games?
I think specs come into play a lot more for me when the price is $500 and costs $100 more because of Kinect which I don't care about.
It's a value for the money thing. If I am to spend $100 more, it better at least match the specs of what I could get for $100 less. I don't want to be in year 2 and 3 and the PS4 version would have been the better choice. Cloud features probably won't have the bandwidth (Internet speed) to make any real difference, so if I'...
Sony's studios GAMES FIRST track record + $100 cheaper + better specs + respecting Indie developers from the START + no Kinect that will waste game developer resources further = No brainer PS4 purchase.
Publishing on the X1 is NOT the same as publishing on the PS4, which despite costing more for the dev kit, is less restrictive than the X1 as it stands:
"Vblank Entertainment developer Brian Provinciano (Retro City Rampage) told Polygon that, while the policy seems to be "a great thing," Sony still seems to have the edge.
"On PS4, for example, developers can tap right into the system; use every bit of RAM and all of its power," Provin...
This is making the developer kits way cheaper, but the restrictions are still there which is the main issue. This was just published on Polygon....

Huh? This game looks like a BLAST!
Let me put this out there. They had probably never planned this and wanted a closed ecosystem to maximize their profits and it still sounds like they will have more restrictions on Indie developers.
That said, this is a very good move on their part and should bring the costs down for developers that don't want to $$$ on a dev kit. It brings the starting cost down for people who want to create games. This = great move.
As I suspected. This isn't something they ever had planned until the "WTF" from Indie developers... They updated the article:
+++++ "UPDATE: But not at launch. Microsoft's Marc Whitten just told us that devkit functionality will be added at a later date." +++++
The new Xbox should be called the 180 because they are doing the opposite of what they announced at the start. Makes me wonder if they even have concrete software in place to do this stuff.
X1 reveal:
Closed to Indie developers, can't play used games, has to be connected to play.
Now:
Uhhh.... Okay. Can do whatever you want Indie developers!
What? You want to play used games? Uhhh, okay!
Don't want to ...
The hardcore Xbox fans are going to get the X1, but $500 vs $400 is going to reduce sales of the X1 for a LOT of people until a serious price drop.
People talk about mind share of the Xbox doing great in the US, and that will = great sales for the X1. What they forget is the PS2 destroyed the first Xbox for mindshare in the US, but the price difference between the PS3 and Xbox 360 squashed that momentum and mind share quickly.
Sorry. $$$ is one of the bigge...
I dunno guys. PS4 is getting high praise in all the right areas from developers and retailers and costs $100 less. Unless Kinect 2 is drastically better than Kinect 1 and blows us away, I have no clue how the X1 could beat the PS4 in the first year.
To me it's more about:
a) Microsoft's first reveal had little to do with games
b) Microsoft's first reveal regarding used games, indie devs
c) Kinect 2 which is taking resources of an already more media hub centered device and dividing it further.
First impressions are huge and reveal what Microsoft wants to do. They tamed their stances because of so much backlash, but you still see the blueprint of what they want to do. It's ...
The price difference alone is enough to squash any chance of that. Remember the momentum Sony had going in from the PS2 to the PS3? Way more momentum than the Xbox1 has with the 360. Sony released the PS3 at a higher price and the Xbox 360 at around $400. Price won easily.
$500 is not a sweet spot by any means. $400 is getting there.
This isn't even factoring the huge PR blunders MS have made or the fact that the PS4 is so developer friendly.
Yaaay! More fitness games and more focus on Kinect! hashtag #sarcasm
R&C have been used way too much IMO and milked. That said, I would LOVE to see what that series looks like on PS4 hardware. LOL.
At the end of the article:
"Don't agree? Check out 5 reasons the Playstation 4 will crush the competition."
LOL. They aren't saying the Xbox or PS4 will win. They give reasons why either could.
Cloud computing for visuals is a load of crap until the bandwidth offered increases drastically. I'm not talking an increase of 2x or even 10x. It'll have to be more than that.
Even theoretically if they can get that kind of bandwidth eventually, some will have higher speeds, some medium and some brutally slow. So would that mean that people who have slower connections would have inferior versions of a game?
I think people don't realize the amou...
