Don't you love how, the moment a console shows a flaw in any way, shape, or form, the fanatics all become instant experts in the field that the flaw took place in who were there on site when the incident happened? Titanfall's cloud shows a crack in its armor, suddenly we have a bunch of IT experts in here telling us all exactly what went wrong and why. They've traced the problem through every internet hub from here to Brazil and back again, and know exactly what happened.

You could always download those free PS+ games that kick so much butt. Or those free to play games (you know, actually free to play, meaning you don't even have to sign up for plus to play them), at least until infamous comes out in a little over a week.

What gets me are those who would disagree that an Amazon Xbox would be an awesome combo of services and would be a great fresh start for the Xbox brand as a whole. Amazon has their own cloud service already, their own streaming video service already, they can offer discounts on shipping and even purchases for signing up for Prime... I'd say they're in at least just as good of a position if not better than MS for running the Xbox brand.

I'm actually hoping they do sell the Xbox brand... Amazon is trying to get into the business, and I think that merging Amazon Prime into Xbox Live would be awesome. Free 2 days shipping on Amazon, access to Amazon Instant video, and all of Xbox Live's features rolled into one service.

I'd buy that, especially if they released a new console that had the horsepower to justify its price tag.

Microsoft sent him in to kill Nokia so their share prices would plummet and MS would be able to swoop in and buy them out cheap.

Both Elop and the new CEO of Microsoft have expressed a willingness to sell the Xbox brand.

@ Baka-akaB, don't forget that he originally worked at MS before he went to Nokia, destroyed them, and then was re-hired back at MS after MS bought Nokia.

Change the first letter of his last name to an "F" and you'll have your answer.

Halo's creators are making PS4 games now. The franchise's name alone isn't going to keep competition at bay.

"1408x792 still has a higher pixel count than 960x1080p."

If you're trying to take a crack at Killzone, first of all its MP mode doesn't run at 960x1080p... it uses an adaptive resolution technique that blends 2 960x1080p frames and interpolates pixels to create a full 1080p frame. Basically interpolating a 1080p frame from 2 1080i frames, but interpolating the vertical resolution instead of the horizontal (which makes it higher resolution than 1080i). It...

No more alien than PS2 was for its time, but in both cases they were a pain in the ass, and Sony's terrible dev support at the time didn't help matters any.

1.6ghz 8 cores, or up to 2.75ghz if turbo core is used (I think it scales down to 4 cores then IIRC, for use when you have single threaded tasks that need raw clock rate to complete faster. When you need multithreaded performance, you go with more slower cores.). This has been known for a while. I was digging up PS4 devkit patents that stated it from last july.

PS3's Cell technically was 7x3.2 (one disabled), but 6 of those cores were far less capable SPUs instead of proper cores.

The CPU in this case can still do some of the GPU's work, however PS4 was designed the other way around. A very powerful GPU that can aid the CPU at compute functions (in addition to using that compute functionality to improve GPU functions).

If you knew anything about microprocessors, you'd know that just because the chip runs at a lower clock speed (which has been known since long before the console released) does not mean it runs slower. First of all, PS3 had one full fledged core (but even it was gimped, couldn't do out of order execution) at 3.2ghz and 7 helper cores that were nowhere near as powerful as the main core. 360 had 3 main cores that also were nowhere near as powerful, suffering from many of the same limita...

Sony got it right by releasing games given away on plus the same day as the game itself, rather than giving away games already released. That prevents this from happening. We've known drive club will be partially free on plus for ages, for instance.

However, good to see MS stepping up their free game giveaways to games that are more modern and relevant. that will help close the gap between the services, if they can just do it more often.

There are other factors that remain to be seen. Which version has the most stable frame rate? If XO hits 960p (which isn't "barely" less than 1080p just because it's a number not far from 1080... you also have to count in the number of vertical rows of pixels in the image that are being left out) but keeps a better frame rate, it'd be the preferred version. However, if (as in the case of games like Ryse and Tomb Raider) it drops down into the teens, skip it.

Moving the goal posts or not, it is still quite clear where the power advantage lies. I can't believe people are even still having this debate.

A full 360 game is several GB's, which is what the article compared it against. It didn't say "equal to Xbox 360's RAM size" which would have been close to accurate (360's GPU RAM is still more than what the batmobile took up). Just a very inaccurate description from someone who didn't know much about the technical lingo they were trying to use, especially when they use the word "FULL" 360 game.

4485d ago 1 agree8 disagreeView comment

Except that it isn't a "full Xbox 360 game". It's less than half of 360's RAM. Most 360 or PS3 games were many GB's in size, especially Ps3.

@theomnigamer, what about all the Xbox 360 and Xbox One games that have 1080p on the back of them, even though they natively render at 720p or below? This is not a new or Sony-exclusive practice. At least in this case, 1080 vertical lines are indeed being rendered rather than both horizontal and vertical being scaled from a lower resolution, so the term 1080p is still technically correct.

4486d ago 12 agree13 disagreeView comment

Funny thing is, it's not the only game on PS4 to have sub-1080p resolution. It's one of the only, but this isn't a first time thing. Nor is it even the case for the single player portion of the game.

The site also tries to blast Sony for putting 1080p on the back of the box... the SP mode IS 1080p, so it isn't false advertising.

Technically, Sony pulled a fast one on the terminology used for the multiplayer portion of the game. 1080 refers to ...
