IF you have high bandwidth.
IF you have low latency.
IF you are within a reasonable distance from the servers.
IF internet conditions aren't overcrowded at your ISP.
IF you believe anything you are told.
If Microsoft knew their sales would rocket up like that if they were released in more countries, they would have done that by now. There's a reason why they're only available in 13 countries, and it isn't "localization" like they claim. No other console in history (even the other ones you can operate with your voice) have been delayed like that over localization.
I can't believe people are even acting surprised by this. Of course there was a boost in sales, and of course it outsold the other consoles. This is one of the most heavily hyped titles in recent history, it's coming out for a console that is new and doesn't have a lot of games, it is being promoted as the console's flagship title, and it coincided with a price cut and bundle in many areas.
The real test will be seeing how long those numbers hold up. Both MS a...

Barely managing to squeeze past the competition in only one country after the release of a flagship title and a price cut while still being outsold by a wide margin worldwide isn't exactly what I would call "doing well". It's good news, but must be kept in perspective. XBO still has a very long way to the top.
MS needs to sit this one out. XB1 is struggling to render images above 720p at 60fps in many games, so in order to handle VR at high res, they are going to need new hardware or to dumb down the visuals of the game significantly. You have to keep in mind, there are 2 eyes, which means it has to calculate the perspective of each eye, then render each one taking up half of the total visor's frame, at 60fps. So, you only get half resolution per eye. If Xbox One can only handle 720p at 60fps, ...
I hate bots in my matches... So in its current form Titanfall is not my game.
The performance increases that this would add to Xbox's API are likely already included in PS4's. Direct X was notorious for having a lot of overhead, and that is what Xbox's API is based on. Hence the name, (Direct)Xbox. However, PS4's was always one similar to mantle/DX12, it offers good low level access already. Not to say both APIs can't and won't improve.
You can do amazing things with it!*
*at 720p
Makes you wonder if MS will ever try full on VR with the ESRAM resolution bottleneck. They'd have to make it half 720p resolution per eye and still need to simplify the game to keep a steady 120fps so you didn't get dizzy. Keep in mind the game has to render 120fps, 60fps per eye.
It will lead to performance increases, though not like many would like to think. It won't lead to parity with other consoles, for instance. It will lead to fanboys using it as a bullet point in their endless efforts to justify their purchase.
Good to see that XB1 won't be stuck using an inefficient API. Now it's API should be able to code closer to the metal much like PS4 and Mantle. This won't automatically mean you'll start seeing more 1080p games and that sort of thing, but you will see performance increases. More stable frame rates, more enemies on screen due to less CPU overhead, better physics, etc.
Shame it won't be here until almost 2016.
It'll help in cases where the XB1 is CPU bound, however the bottleneck it is facing currently is GPU and memory bandwidth related, not CPU.
PS4 actually runs on its own API, though it is heavily based on OpenGL.
LOL... i can see all the disagrees coming in from those born after 1992... Bubs for that nostalgia.
Yes, but the issue is, with lagging sales Nintendo needs to be showcasing something that differentiates the Wii from anything else. This just isn't it.
So, a 2014 GDC tech demo for Wii U only manages to showcase a lemmings clone that uses the same type of swipe gameplay that we've been enjoying on our phones for years, and makes little use of the second screen functionality other than serving as a swipe pad and a cloned display of the main screen?
Nintendo has lost it...
Some of the other impressions I've read stated that the visor was adjustable to move it closer to your face so that space gets eliminated. I suppose they leave a space there by default so as not to turn off those who wear glasses.

3D glasses cause headaches due to constant flickering (active glasses) and do not have any sort of head tracking. In addition, the 3D image you are seeing is tiny. The two cannot be compared.

Sony is actively working with middleware developers such as Cryengine and Unreal Engine to integrate Morpheus' SDK right into their middleware. What does that mean? It means that the majority of games, games that use third party middleware, won't have to do any additional coding to make their games VR compatible. It'll be built right into the engine. I think that is a very wise move on Sony's part.
As for needing the camera, I imagi...
If you need any example of Americans not giving a crap about where their products are made... Look at how much money Wal Mart rakes in over here. Now look at the percentage of their non-food items that are foreign made... over 90%.
@headblackman
Mantle doesn't need to come to any console (other than xbox one, as it uses an api based on directx which is notoriously inefficient.).
Mantle and DX12 are answers to direct x, which is a decades old API that literally has code from the 80's in it still today, and requires you to jump through hoops just to get simple things done. Think of it this way, imagine being at work as a construction worker, but needing to get the boss' permis...
