This is running on a base PS5, not pro.

Even more impressive to me is their new Megalights tech demo, which is also running on a PS5 (they didn't even say Pro, which is fascinating that they could pull this off).

When this started, I was thinking for sure this was running on a 4090... but nope. PS5.

Starfailed... This was supposed to be the big one that saved them.

Except the extra power the console possesses is something it was designed to have, and therefore is a feature of the console that its predecessor does not have. You have a strange way of defining features.

As for why it can't do it with locked frame rates... if a developer knows that their game is locked to run at a set frame rate, then certain calculations in the game that rely on precise timing will be made with that frame rate in mind, knowing that every frame will be redrawn every 32 milliseconds. If you just tell PS5 Pro to ignore that frame rate lock, it could then break those timing mechanisms which then breaks the game, so it isn't as easy as just flipping a switch and then the ...

Except... Sony isn't offering a "similar" approach, THAT is bullshit. Sony is offering digital and disc based consoles with the ability to upgrade one to the other, so that if you decide later you do want a disc based console, you don't have to buy a whole other console... or if your drive dies, you can just buy a new one and install it in seconds. The fact that people are mad that Sony is making it easier to switch from digital to disc is mind numbing... some people just lo...

@hansy, you have it wrong. Including the disc drive is going to cost more to produce, which is why they sell the digital only console cheaper. So, by forcing everyone to buy a disc based console, those who don't need discs are forced to pay more. By giving the option of adding one, those who want a disc drive still pay what they otherwise would have for a disc based console, but those who don't need to are not forced to buy the disc drive. Sony also doesn't have to spend more mone...

And you have to take the console apart to repair it, not everyone has the technical knowledge to pull that off. Offering a detachable drive that plugs in with a single cable is far more user friendly.

That is another fantastic reason for a detachable disc drive... Especially since both my Ps1 and PS2 were bricked by failing disc drives.

I think that's a dumb approach.... not everyone wants a disc based console, and if they can offer a cheaper digital only option, it's cheaper on them to not have to manufacture two different SKUs when they can enable you to upgrade the digital model to a disc based model instead. It makes better business sense for both them and the consumer.

USA seems to be ok, just turned my system on and all is well.

Nice projection, but no. The entire concept of DEI is preventing people from excluding people because of what they are, vs. who they are. Research what the words diversity, equity, and inclusion mean, then get back to us.

The far right agenda has poisoned the minds of so many...

If Sony truly banned all forms of DEI, there would only be japanese male protagonists in their games, and the games would only be in Japanese with no English subtitles. Americans would be banned from online play.

What a pathetic perspective.

being able to back up your game and your game having a valid license to play it is not the same thing.

Xbox releases a $600 series X with nothing else upgraded but the hard drive, and nobody bats an eye... Not even new games to play on the thing... But Sony drops the most powerful console in history that runs circles around any $700 PC you can possibly build, and has over 50 games ready with updates on launch day (in addition to running even PS4 games at faster frame rates) as well as new hits confirmed to utilize it in development, and suddenly they're destroying the industry.

Ripping off other people's bars that have been used as far back as Pink Floyd's Roger Waters.

No you weren't. Not for the price of a pro, even upgrading your PC for the price of a pro... and definitely not at 4K. Pathetic.

Oh look, they're so butthurt that Sony is releasing the most powerful console in history that they made an account just to troll people talking about it. How pathetic.
