This is a day one for sure... I love how much the developers have poured their love for the genre and all of its influences into the game, the way they partnered with popular Japanese directors to create gameplay modes similar to their styles... this is what happens when you let developers take risks and follow their dreams. Nothing cookie-cutter here.
Major Nelson was full of shit, for sure... I remember all the lies he was spewing during the 360 years, and on into the Xbox One years. He lied about Xbox DRM, for instance. Pretty much everything he said here turned out to be a lie. Also, let's call him who he is, not the cheesy "character" he tried to portray. Larry Hryb is his name. I guess the suits didn't think a middle aged guy named Larry would resonate "with the kids", so they had to spice it up with a &quo...
I remade Missile Command years ago: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Gran Turismo had 4 full games out spanning 2 console generations before the first Forza was released. Gran Turismo 4 was released in 2004, the first Forza came out in 2005.
Play anywhere was born out of necessity, it's their exit from the hardware market, playing out in slow motion. Day 1 GP releases are a big part of why they're having to slash so many jobs... people aren't buying the games, and they're running out of money to keep it afloat. As for BC, it's been around for generations, and Sony and Nintendo both feature it heavily still to this day. Yes, MS has better BC going back farther in the hardware generations, but that's not som...
Gamepass doing well is exactly why Xbox isn't doing well... nobody is buying games. Now that they no longer have exclusives, nobody is buying consoles either... not like they were before, but still, now even less.
@Lightning, nobody says Sony is going under because they can actually sell both consoles and games. They're making plenty of money. MS on the other hand is only selling games while losing money on hardware.
PSSR is tech Sony co-developed with AMD. FSR4 is also tech that Sony co-developed with AMD. It literally IS the next iteration of PSSR, just under a different name.
for 3 times more money than a ps6.
I still say that... talking about releasing a console and actually releasing a console are 2 totally different things. The fact that they are only just now securing a partnership to manufacture the chips shows just how behind they are. Sony already had a deal with AMD worked out nearly a year ago ( https://www.theverge.com/20... MS already canceled plans to release their handhe...
Note how much emphasis they keep putting on "you can play your games across any device"... as in, no exclusives. This thing will flop hard, again, if it even launches. They already pumped the brakes on the handheld.
@prof, don't underestimate how much developers finally getting a grasp on coding for the Cell processor also helped PS3 take the crown in the end.
First to market with the weakest console of the new generation, half-baked and rushed. Then Sony comes around and shows them how it's done for the fifth time in a row.
Come on, people... hz means "cycles per second". You have no idea what you are talking about. I do this for a living, so let me educate you... 120fps means the screen is updated, or cycled, 120 times per second with a new frame. The frames cycle 120 times per second. 120 cycles per second... hertz means cycles per second... so 120hz IS 120fps when talking about displays and consoles/PCs.
PS guys are funding Xbox software, and giving people reasons to not buy Xbox hardware, which is accelerating Xbox's exit from the hardware space.
There's actually a pretty long list of games on PS5 that support 120hz. Even more with 60+hz unlocked, and that isn't even counting PS5 Pro.

They don't really need Xbox, there isn't a big enough install base there to really make it worth it to port the games to a platform with fewer than 50 million consoles sold... especially when many of those folks have a PS5 also. That said, Switch 2 is selling like hotcakes, and Sony would be smart to consider ports to it. Honestly, I think that would be a smarter move on their part than trying to release another handheld.
"@andy85 - I don't think I've ever heard an avid PC gamer say 60 to 120 is negligible."
Because they have to justify that extra $ spent somehow... it's placebo. They are noticing the faster pixel response time of these monitors, not the extra frames.
It's just like the whole 120fp tiktok craze, they're just 60fps videos at a high bitrate with a ton of fast motion on them, which you can tell by downloading the videos and run...
This is the kind of first party offerings I'd love to see more of. I love how it recreates that Marvel vs. Capcom magic, but they took it in a new, definitely more Japanese-influenced direction. I'm interested to see how some of these mechanics, like the 4v4 stuff, play out in reality.
and as a PlayStation fan, I'm here for it. The two have figured out the perfect way to co-exist in the market, they fill different niches, and target different demographics. This is how competition in the gaming industry should be done. This is in sharp contrast to what Microsoft's "me too" strategy has been... don't bother creating anything new, just buy up all the talent, don't let them take risks, and expect that they can keep milking the cow until it is skin and ...
