Based on existing technology costs and some assumption of costs savings due to economies of scale I would expect north of $549 or $599. However at $599 it may deter some consumers who are not comparing this to some pc grade performance alternative. However, maybe MS will sell at a loss per unit initially around $499 and try to increase XBL sub price and / or increase game cost to $70? Seems risky to do that though. But selling the console at $399 at launch would seem to be a loss per unit so...

Micro-aggression alert!. :)

Anatomy can be altered to a degree. Chromosomes determine gender. Last thing I need to is be lectured about this topic by some sjw from San Fran.

Completely agree with @moldybread. Piracy is a crime. Intellectual property theft. I don't care why pirates steal software. This is not food people are steeling to survive. There is no moral high ground here to justify steeling because thieves feel the price is too high or they don't have the resources to enjoy the entertainment experience. If companies don't provide what consumers want then ti won't sell. The childish argument made to justify stealing could apply to anything...

Ps4 Pro may suffer in sales only cuz of significant market penetration already with PS4. How many Ps4 owners upgrade to Ps4 Pro? It's not like the entire user base has done that. Scorpio will likely suffer from adoption rate issues for the first year as a vast majority of the install base also has 1080p sets. Many fans are pinning their hopes on Scorpio to turn things around completely for MS. It has to be a long term play to stay relevant. The other significant variable here is games ...

I remind myself that for Sony to be successful does not mean MS must not be successful. It is not a zero sum game in all respects. A rising tide lifts all boats often times. However, will I be buying a Scorpio? At this point I have no plans to do so. Between my 1080Ti PC and my PS4 I feel pretty well covered. I think Scorpio will make MS more competitive in US/UK markets but I don't think Sony sits on it's hands either. Competition is good. And Sony is motivated too. Who wins here? W...

@Nu I am more of a PS gamer although I own an X1. But I certainly don't want any company to go away. Competition is great for the industry and gamers. If Scorpio does reasonably well it will incentify Sony to respond. That's teh nature of competition. Monopolies are rarely a good thing for innovation.

I've never owned a Connect. But did people hate the idea of motion sensing or just how poorly it was implemented? Just wondering as if it would ever resurface in the future would a better implementation make it more useful? Although the idea of a camera in my house is not one I like. I put that in the same category as Amazon Alexa or Google's device.

I agree they care mostly about profit. Which is fine. However, it is incumbent upon consumers to exercise restraint then and steer away from pre-order etc. Most pre-orders are not really giving you anything but cosmetic junk anyway. I include myself in this too. I will not pre-order any games coming out the rest of this year. I'll wait till it's released and then see if it is worth a purchase or not.

As did I but I kinda wish I held off on ME:A. As it is I have suspended playing till more patching is completed.

Agreed Sony takes their product seriously. I think maybe the author is nervous that Scorpio will have better specs / performance. But it won't matter as long as Sony continues to execute on games. And there can be no doubt a PS5 is in the design phase. Competition is good. But Sony is no shrinking violet.

Yea have to agree. There is no war as far as I am concerned. Hard to say whether I will buy a Scorpio just yet. But will I ever buy one and stop playing PS games? Very doubtful. I seriously doubt PS brand will suffer for Scorpio to succeed. Scorpio can do well but PS has to falter as well in order to take business away from Sony. If they both sell well, fine by me.

Agreed that many own both. I do. But I spend way more time on the PS4.

Yes numerous activities were classified as a sport. But games existed in many forms for thousands of years. Some were considered sport while others were not.

So sitting in a chair and typing, using a mouse or controller qualifies as physical exertion? That's a very generous definition of physical exertion. I'm not saying gaming is not a competition. I would not consider the game of chess a sport either. So playing a table top board game is a sport now? And of course I have seen gaming competitions. I respect the skill required. I just don't consider it a "sport".

A sport? Video gaming? cmon. Definition of a sport, "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment." Call a competition or something but not "Sport".

I think there is a broader plan of shortened console cycles coming into play. We are possibly entering a time of iterative console releases like in mobile phone market. Spec refresh every couple years. Ultimately both consoles will end up with similar performance specs at any given time. Other differentiators will come to play, like cloud services, first party exclusives, and execution on softtware / features.

I didn't say they weren't working on it. Just more diversity is better IMO. And two of those games are actually released yet. Look I own both consoles but I do find that currently PS has a better diversity of games. Just think in order for MS to be more successful then along with improved hardware they need to have some parity with PS in terms of diversity. At current, I spend and do way more gaming on my PS than my X1.

Can someone please add EU/UK in the title?

3208d ago 9 agree1 disagreeView comment

Well clearly as far as hardware goes it will be a strong console. MS needs to cultivate a more interesting diverse set of titles. Will it dominate in sales? I doubt it will dominate but sell far better than X1, I suspect it will. But likely at some point Sony will announce a new console being developed which will leap frog. And so the game will go. So what will the difference maker be? Games and where one's friends play.
