Last I checked twice the install base is not "even".

IMO, MS's troubles these past 3.5 years has been,
1. Poor product debut with marketing focus on television and kinect being too prominent. They suffered from that stigma even though they quickly pivoted.
2. A first party lineup which felt lacking compared to PS4.
3. Slight power / performance differential with PS4.

Scorpio addresses #3. I think MS re-positioned for gaming focus years ago to address #1. But #2 above is TBD. MS will announce t...

@vickers500 The top of that old article does state,

"Update: Bungie has clarified with IGN even further saying that yes, your progress will 100% carry over to the sequel."

Progress is manifest partially in gear. Kinda disappointed myself there is no carryover of gear and such. I think it's a bad idea on Bungie's part to reset itemization. How in the story does your character(s) lose the gear they are wearing?

As much as I would prefer (performance wise) to play this on my PC I will likely play on PS4. I'd like to avoid cheaters as have been observed in BF1 on PC. But it makes no difference to me which launcher I use. Sure Steam is a good launcher but it's not the primary reason for my pc purchases. Plus I can see why companies don't want to pay upwards of 30% to Valve for Steam purchases.

I agree. It will be a new console initially aimed at existing X1 owners to upgrade and keep them in the xbox camp. One problem MS has with X1 is they lost userbase from the X360 era. Many people play where their friends play. That is a significant driving factor in purchasing choice. When people 'see' the difference between native 4K and checkerboard 4K they will be underwhelmed. It's not like the stark difference between 1080p and 720p. Scorpio helps MS perhaps stop the bleeding ...

If only N4G story submissions included the region in the title.
This is UK. Glad for people but is not helpful for people in other regions.

I dunno they were pretty stupid when X1 launched. I would be very surprised if it were $399. My "guess" would be between $449 and $499. Perhaps one with a larger drive at $599. I think they'd get decent X1 owner upgrade sales if at $399. Maybe a trade in program too? With RAM prices on the rise, custom ASIC, and other components costs, $399 would be a loss on each sale.

It may be $399 but MS will take a loss per console likely at that price. I'd expect MS tries to make up the revenue loss through software sales and XBL. Or they are just willing to eat a loss to regain market share. I wonder if they will have a X1 trade in program.

Yep one of the best small studios. Larian and Obsidian are making really good quality isometric games. Sadly, Bioware has lost it way especially since EA acquired them. Larian has done kickstarter funding very well, perhaps one of the most successful at using that funding model. They have met or exceeded expectations in DivOS1 and appear to be on track to exceed DivOS2 expectations as well.

I have not heard an official statement that they will release on console. Did DivOS1 sell well for them on console with the Enhanced Ed.? If so, I suspect they will create a console version. The Enhanced Edition of the first game was a year after initial release. I also wonder if the game master mode would be part of a console release. I will play on PC as with the first game but hope for console players they also release there as well.

I believe Montreal studio staff is no longer the focal point on their own projects but in a supporting role. So presumably is Edmonton or some other offices.

Agreed, I am highly skeptical of EA Bioware's ability to deliver after their Montreal studio released ME:A. I am sworn off pre-orders now and will see what they deliver before committing any more money to them.

I think MS pads their number with XBox app on Windows 10 numbers. Using the term "gaming social network", I am surprised it would not be Facebook as the largest "gaming social network". I guess technically FB has games.

You go where the money is. With twice the install base that's clearly Sony's PS4. I own both consoles but spend considerably more on PS4 than X1. I'd be very curious to see financial info on total software sales for each product. More than 2:1 I suspect.

You are not forced to buy anything. Why complain about what other's chose to purchase? "Absolutely NOTHING has changed". And you know this because of a game trailer? For someone who has not played the game you sure know an awful lot about it.

If Switch supplants 3DS then yes I think it will outsell Scorpio worldwide. But then again the two consoles server very different interests. Japan seems to prefer portable so I can see it doing very well there. Kinda hard to compare as they seem to serve two different audiences. I think 3rd party publishers will support Switch but they may be Switch exclusive titles often times too. Nintendo is clearly trying to create their own market and dominate it, They did pretty well with 3DS & Wii ...

The advantage for Sony is their already large install base and high attach rate. Anyone interested in higher frame rates and / or higher resolutions will likely stick with the platform they already have investment in today. Sony pulled many former XBox 360 owners in to their camp after the release of PS4. Will Scorpio pull PS4 or PS4 Pro owners back? I doubt the performance advantage will be noticeable enough to draw PS4 consumers to now invest in XBox. If the distinction in performance is ...

Sony is doing what they do which is trying to push gaming to new mediums. MS tried this with Kinect. Granted it was a failure. And the big difference is that PSVR is not a required purchase like MS tried with orig X1 / Kinext. Also MS must see some potential with VR as I believe they will support VR with Scorpio. So Kudos to Sony and I sure hope VR makes strides in gaming.

Agreed, having a healthy diverse market for you product is preferable. Xbox just has the reputation of being the dude bro shooter box. Although that is fine it is somewhat restricting. MS even in their own public statements is trying to improve their standing in the Japanese gaming market. That starts with getting dev studios on board. Remains to be seen if they are ever successful at that.

Just giving up the 3D visual part is the suggestion from what I read in the article. Since they released the 2D XL that seems like it would not imply ditching the brand. I can't imagine Nintendo has any immediate plans to drop the DS line entirely just yet. Too large an install base making lots of money for them. But I will say if given the choice between playing titles on my Switch or DS, I'd pick the Switch now.
