That's true. But I won't be buying any EA games anytime soon. They are a cancer on the gaming industry.

Well, Destiny is not shitty. However, I don't think every game needs to emulate the Destiny model. I enjoy Destiny but I surely also enjoy great single player games. I expect Wolfenstein NC could be good as well as God of War. and others. The issue here is not Destiny, it is that EA feels to create everything in that image. They already have Anthem in dev. Now they have to make all Star Wars titles the same? EA really has a terrible impact on gaming.

So true. Publishers are afraid to raise the price of the base game so they came up with more "creative" ways to do so while still holding to the story that games cost $60 retail in the U.S.. Day 1 DLC all the way to loot box gambling for retail price games. It's made the price of a 'complete' game far more than $60.

I do agree that the average consumer is often an uninformed short attention span dolt who willingly allows themselves to be abused then complain later.

I'd say it looks nice but is some loot box shoved in our faces fun? It's not a f2p game. I'm all for the free market but I hope many gamers reject these games. Over time that will send a message.

Yep me too. It's sad but both SoW and Battle Front 2 are off the purchase list.

@4sh0w Give us a break with the haters gonna hate BS. The game balance is clearly skewed towards MT purchases in a single player game which many paid full retail price if not more for already. Many people will choose not to support this business practice. It's not hate. It's purchasing decisions. This burgeoning practice of adding non-cosmetic MT purchases in games (esp SP games) will ultimately hurt the industry.

MT's are there to prey on those who lack self-control. Publishers are hunting for whales. So if 90+% of people still ignore MT's it is clearly insufficient to curb the practice as the profitability on those few whales is enough to justify the investment in making the MT system.

Not buying EA's Star Wars Loot Crate 2. #fail

@TankCrossiing I agree. It is not sufficient to just not buy the loot boxes. Those systems are simple to develop and allow publishers to hunt for whales. The game balance is ultimately skewed to find those whales. Such MT systems in F2P games is acceptable but for games which one may have paid $60 or higher, it is not acceptable in my opinion. I will not be purchasing Shadow of War, Forza 7, nor Battlefront 2 at this point. Some people just want to give up and say it's too late to push ba...

Jeff Bezos from Amazon approved this article.

Will not buy that game. Period.

Yea have to agree. I really don't trust MS. Granted they made some nice moves later in this gen to save face. And surely not everyone there is untrustworthy. However, I always have this nagging feeling that if MS is left with the keys to the kingdom we will all be worse off for it in the long run.

I think it gets some additional love cuz it's only $20 too. Looks fun but in no rush to get it.

Pretty hard for a business to ignore a 60+ million user install base because it looks pretty. Money talks.

@MVGeneral you do not know that MTs don't ruin the balance yet. Please don't base that on a statement from the game director. We'll find out soon enough if it screws balance. And of course, the existence of the MT system doesn't mean balance can't be screwed up later via a patch. I will not support a company for generosity. The product includes a feature that despite their attempt to explain it way is problematic even having in a game. If it was f2p, then I'd at leas...

@Palitera so we are to assume then that the reviewer alone thinks MTs can be acceptable? I did not read it that way. Would it surprise anyone if a marketing exec told a reviewer to tone down their criticism of MTs? Not saying that happened but it would not surprise me. So if the menu were more streamlined then the existence of MTs would be just fine? I think it is way too soon to know the impact the loot box buying will have on game balance. IMO, their very existence is an abomination to a g...

I am surprised in the summary of good and bad at the end they didn't state unnecessary MT system as a specific "bad". Feels like a charged topic that the industry does not want to have discussed. I think they just want everyone to accept MTs. With all the other games coming out I think I may well pass on this one now. Maybe in the future when it is on sale for short money I will consider.

@moldybread. Although what you say could be the case, we really don't have enough information yet on Shadow of War. I find it hard to believe that the game will not have some skewing towards incenting players to buy MT's for a game which they already paid retail. I surely won't trust the word of the people trying to sell me the game either. Accepting MTs in a AAA retail game is the camel's nose in the tent. A couple of years from now we won't have to wonder how we got he...

Agree with you @Septic. Otherwise very good games are being polluted by MT systems.
