Well if MS bought Steam, then I am many others would stop buying from Steam. GOG, Robot Cache, and others would grow.

MS will not purchase EA nor Valve. Too costly and risky. EA games are already on the MS console. Buying it to prevent sales on another platform is like addition through subtraction. It could be looked at by the FTC as anti-competitive. MS would be better served to cultivate their existing 1st party studios or develop new ones. It's not a quick fix but it is better long-term proposition for the company.

Wow looking at the monthly chart, did Xbox actually decrease from Nov to Dec? The initial wave of X1X release wore off that quick? I have to imagine most of the X1X sales are to existing X1 owners who are upgrading their console. I imagine the majority of PS4 sales were the slim model with a significant portion of those to new customers and maybe some getting a second console. As for Nintendo, the Switch makes a great secondary console. Lots of opportunity for Nintendo to sell still.

Casuals who play one or two games a year like FIFA UT are driving this MT business. The success of MT in FIFA UT is causing EA to conclude that every game they publish should have similar MT systems. But the audience which plays FIFA UT is not the same as the crowd who would play Anthem. SW BF2 is a bad example, as being SW it drags in every person under the sun. Anthem has no such brand recognition outside the gaming community. I for one have no intention to purchase another EA published gam...

Are the two games being developed by two different dev studios? DICE and Bioware. Maybe EA just doesn't want to release Anthem too close to the next BF from a marketing standpoint. I don't know for sure but I have to lean towards the reason being Anthem has dev issue and also the proximity of release to another title. Bioware has a reputation at stake here. If they release a piece of trash, riddled with MTs then the once good name of Bioware will forever be trash.

Newsflash: "This just in. Company CEO says their product is amazing. More at 11....."

Does anyone expect them to say otherwise? Let's just see if the loot boxes are any good. /s

Ugh - I hope gaming doesn't devolve into a service subscription model only. That would be awful to have my game library at the mercy of me maintaining a subscription to a service which is likely to increase in price over time. I prefer the fixed cost model of buying a copy of the game.

@Brian People are free to purchase what they want. One has to be very thin-skinned, immature, and/or easily manipulated to allow anonymous forum postings, social media, or an Ex significant other to berate them into not purchasing something they want to play. Who the heck cares if someone doesn't like your gaming choices. Play what makes you happy. Granted I think trolling or bullying someone over a prospective purchase is equally immature. One has to be stronger than that and follow you...

@SuperSonic91 I agree. They exemplify "speak softly and carry a big stick".

Wow that's crazy that part prices are so high. I upgraded to a ASUS 1080Ti STRIX card in 2017 and now that same card at newegg is more than twice the price I paid less than 1 year ago.

Agreed it was a commercial failure. But perhaps an idea a little ahead of the technological curve. I'd say their second attempt at hybrid handheld is off to a great start.

The great SP games of times past did not have expensive celebs, writers, etc. The medium doesn't need these expensive people to be successful. For example, why in the world did CoD have Kevin Spacey years ago. Unnecessary. An SP game like Zelda BotW didn't need all the overhead. Hollywood influence. We just don't need them. The 'traditional' SP game is not one which has expensive hollywood type writers, actors, etc.

Having a contract with a company does not make you part of that corporation. It makes you a supplier to a company.

Well libel laws already exist. Unfortunately, in an error of click-bait articles, it is too lucrative for media sites to take the quick buck and then publish a correction on the 'back page' later. Not all 'journalists' have ethics. And gaming journalism is a dubious term as it is. Not sure such a thing really exists.

MS's track record with 1st party studios is not that great. Fans of Bluehole should be worried. Feels desperate on MS's part.

I think consoles will be backward compatible in the future but not necessarily games. So when the next gen rolls around, I expect previously launched games will be supported on the new platform. But surely not all new games will be supported on the previous platform due to technical limitations. Of course with the current mid-gen refresh that would not go over too well.

Perhaps the one interesting feature left from the Kinect is the voice commands which are still useable with any mic..

Fwiw, I do think X1 can use more USB cameras now for video conf. I do wonder if MS will ever support VR via 3rd party such as Oculus. That system does not use a camera though.

As bad as 2017 was for Xbox, it is better than some previous years. But man MS has a long road ahead of themselves. Will X1X reverse their trend? I am skeptical.
