Nervous? As in there's got to be a catch?
I find that Game Pass has really hurt Games with Gold. MS has no incentive to put better titles in Games with Gold. I tried Game Pass for a couple months when MS had the deep discount for 1 month. I just don't like that if I don't keep paying MS I lose access. Somehow I have to imagine MS figures they will make more money off subscription access than purchases. MS isn't aiming to reduce revenue. So on the surface, it seems cheap but in the long run, maybe not so much. And of cour...
I am not optimistic about GaaS. It promotes releasing games in piecemeal fashion riddled with bugs. There is no incentive for the publishers to have their dev teams release quality on a release day anymore. If you're already paying for a subscription or you have to purchase MT's to have a complete game then this is a major step back. GaaS also means that publishers can 'tweak' the balance of the game continuously to incent players to purchase even more MT's. There is no ...
I played the first game a little recently on X1. It seems like it could be fun but felt a little clunky compared to other games. But I do want to play the upcoming game. I'll play it on PC if it is a PlayAnywhere title.
If MS were to buy Valve, my game purchases on Steam would cease. What's MS buying? A digital distribution platform? Clearly, MS can't figure that out themselves as Games4Windows and the current store are not well received. New digital distribution platforms will rise which displace Steam if they get bought by MS. Robot Cache is a new entry which has promise. Being able to resell digital games could be interesting.
I think hardcore gamers want to play where the best games library exists. That's not currently the X1X. If a hardcore gamer is interested solely in performance then you go PC. Most hardcore gamers are going with the PS4 / PC combo. The X1X serves only to keep X1 owners from continuing to bail. MS had to try to stop the bleeding. They have lost so many customers this gen to Sony. At often times more than double the price of the X1s, the X1X is not PROPER. It's expensive and a lacklus...
@UltraNova The 8 million number you cite was EA's low-end estimate. They also had another number much higher than 8 million. EA purposely set a very wide range so they could meat nearly anything they forecast. And yet, they missed even their lower number by a significant amount. Everyone knows that EA did very poorly than what they expected to sell on BF2. I don't really see an upside on this for EA.
Being cloud-based is very nebulous. Cloud means many different things. I'd be surprised and saddened if they mean completely streaming services. I suspect that is not what the next step in console gaming will be. Cloud-based components to gaming though. That will occur. Most corporate computing will be moving to a cloud-based infrastructure. Gaming will follow suit to a degree.
Well at least a little solace that most of the revenue comes from the King division which produces Candy Crush. I still find it amazing that people spend anything on such mobile games. But it is clear some AAA publishers would like to add MT systems to their major AAA titles. Hopefully, the consumers who buy AAA games will reject this business model by not purchasing the games at all. I stayed away from Shadow of War, Star Wars BF2, and Forza 7.
MT's in a f2p game. Understood. MT's in a game one already paid retatil price for to play? Not good. But apparently it's true what PT Barnum said, there's a sucker born every minute.
@ArchangleMike They deleted your comment on their website? That is despicable. I think lots of SJW like to virtue signal. I can't speak for the PoC issue but I can say I will likely be buying this game as it looks great.
It's not the worst if I can take that console with me anywhere I go.
I will buy a PS4 Pro to replace my OG PS4. I have a 1080TI based PC already. No need to replace my OG X1.
@Christopher This is true we don't know the history. Does the company have a policy of posting anything online which they consider offensive? I'd be curious to know if they take the same stance with progressive postings online? Sure the company has a lot of latitude in the U.S. to hire / fire. But it is also true that I don't have to support them by purchasing their products either. Sure it's not generally a good idea to post one's controversial opinions online for all t...
I have since removed this game from my expected purchase list / wishlist on Steam. It looks like a good game. But too many other games to play to bother supporting a company such as this which takes such measures to control thought.
@munchmiller I personally don't post political opinions in my name publicly. It' just not how I like to conduct myself. But how often do you hear of someone who takes what would be considered controversial progressive opinions get fired? I think the consequences are not being levied equitably. That is partly what is at issue here. Can you imagine the backlash if a company fired someone over posting their controversial progressive comments? Only people who hold non-progressive opinion...
But you can bet that if his comments were in support of the notion of a pay-gap, pro illegal immigration, and pro sjw, he would not have been fired. Those are controversial opinions just as well but you can't be fired over them. If anything, you're promoted.
I think that they may want to go all digital. As a publisher, MS would like to limit used game sales. Similar to how Google Play and iTunes store operate in the mobile space. But will they do that now? Still too much pushback from consumers at this point. I for one prefer physical media. But in this age of day 1 patches and expansion passes what does the disc serve other than as a license key? But I like being able to sell a game disc. Maybe one day we will be able to sell our digital license...
I half consider selling my 1080Ti Strix card as I can make more than I paid for it. I sold a 3 yo GTX 970 last week for nearly what I paid for it. Good time to sell if you have gfx cards not in use.
Well an SP game such as Shadow of War has MTs. So it's not unheard of for SP to have them. They were billed as "time-saving" items you could purchase to speed up how quickly one progressed in the game. But glad to hear GoW doesn't have these "time saving" MTs.
