I am skeptical as well of the whole industry moving to game streaming. But I do wonder where 5G wireless lead us. Supposedly 5G is very low latency as it'll be important for the adoption of autonomous vehicles. Perhaps that would enable game streaming better than is available today? I have also tried game streaming on my fiber connection at home. It works very well. Certain types of games are more susceptible to the unpredictable latency though. But the vision they describe is at least...
No way I will pay extra money for a cpl missions or in-game items. For me it'll be base game purchased from Best Buy with Gamer's Club so only $48 for me after the discount. I expected not quite such a transparent cash grab from R*. It'll probably be a great game but if it's unacceptable for the likes of Ubi, EA, etc to do this then it's also unacceptable to me from Take Two & R*. Locking SP missions behind a paywall. For shame.
I tried the 7 day trial for PS Now and was pleased with the performance. I have a synchronous 100 Mb / 100 Mb connection and thought the service performed as advertised. I'd prefer the cost was less on a month to month basis as perhaps I'd consider using it from time to time.
@kneon I agree. Sony's pedigree has much deeper roots in creativity through their movie and music businesses. That pedigree clearly shapes how they view first party studios. MS, on the other hand, is primarily a business software company. Not exactly a creative pedigree like Sony's. You can see how it shapes MS strategy. They appear to make decisions based on analytics and have more of an aversion to taking risks compared to Sony. Playing it safe and trying to rely on last gen succe...
@Chevalier I agree. Most would be highly skeptical of any dates from MS. They would need titles releasing in the coming 9 - 12 months to be competitive. MS has a major credibility gap regarding first party that they've tried to plug with other features. I expect we'll see Gears & Forza. Not so sure on whether we'll see a HALO game and some 3rd party studios sharing the stage. MS is treading water while Sony is steadily swimming ahead.
BB will match lower price if you are within the return merchandise window.
MS can't rely upon nebulous release dates and promises of future first party content which is years away from actual release. They need hard dates, actual gameplay, and more to compete with Sony's upcoming releases alone. And even if MS does a great job, they aren't going to move consumers away from Sony. It takes years to develop a deep stable of studios and I don't know if MS has had enough time to accomplish something meaningful that way yet. What MS needs to do is try to...
I was one of those SoD2 players. I nabbed the free GamePass trial for two weeks, tried the game, then subsequently canceled Game Pass. I imagine many of the players counted in that figure did similar to me. At this time SoD2 sits at less than 1k viewers on Twitch. Sure that is not a direct correlation to players but it does have a correlation to interest. The game is fair. But it's certainly not some runaway success this number would lead you to believe.
The article seems to suggest that MS would not have made the adaptive controller had they not been 'losing' and thus incentified to take risks. I would prefer to think MS would have developed the controller regardless of where their sales numbers lie.
The author insists there is no console war but then proceeds to title the article "XBOX IS LOSING THE CONSOLE WAR—BUT THAT'S A GOOD THING". And there is a 'war'. But it's not a toxic war ...
There is less incentive for MS to put great titles on Gold now since the advent of GamePass. They want to lure people to also sub to that service so better titles are being included with that service rather than GwG.
I don't see how Nintendo drags down the whole industry. Maybe they drag themselves down but I think Sony, MS, PC, and mobile are moving forward with or without Nintendo. Sure, I think Nintendo needs to improve vastly in online capabilities, but if Nintendo doesn't respond in a way that pleases their customer base, then they will wither away like so many have before them. Although I hope new blood at their company pushes for improvements in their online service(s).
Well I am playing SoD2 using a trial of game pass for PC. The game is ok. But will I subscribe or buy the game.?
No probably not. It's just not that interesting to me right now. So is the game some runaway success for XBox? I doubt it.
Gamespot gave it a 5 which for them means "Mediocre". I'll try the game on PC with my free 2 week GamePass. I'll hold off any purchase decision till I play myself for free.
I find it odd that IGN gives this a 7.5 and other sites a 4. I understand reviews to a degree are subjective but such a disparity seems odd. IGN trying to walk a line between editorial credibility and their sponsor's marketing needs. I'll use my free 2 week Gamepass sub to try on PC. Watch some streams and see if it is worth playing.
There could be others too. Per Shawn Layden's post, "In a rare break from tradition, we wanted to give you an early glimpse at what to expect..."
When I see the word glimpse I don't consider that exhaustive. So perhaps there will be some surprises up their sleeves too. What they did mention is exciting alone.
Agreed. Randomized purchases. It's a form of gambling. If companies want to sell cosmetics as microtransaction that is one thing. But to make one's purchase a random is a game of chance. Not sure who buys these things but apparently enough people do that these companies fight hard to keep them. I think they saw the cash EA made with FIFA UT and wanted to get in on that action. I hope these business practices are taken out of games either voluntarily or forcibly.
I myself have not played many 'zombie' games aside from TLoU and CoD Zombies. So for me, I am not fatigued of zombie games. I am looking forward to Days Gone as the character and setting also look compelling. Most Sony studios do a great job so I am confident this game will also prove to be very good. I may try the upcoming SoD2 on pc but I don't think that will fatigue me as it seems quite different than Days Gone.
Couldn't agree more. I see no need to be that specific about a release. Granted they can always push out if need be. Quality will count for the most on this title. A rushed buggy mess will be a disaster as usual.
It's just a matter of time till such services are offered as tiers. Oh there is bronze level, silver level, and gold level tiers. It'll end up like a cable tv monthly bill in the years to come. You pay for a ton of garbage you don't really want. In the immoral words of Admiral Ackbar, "It's a trap".
Crossplay is of zero value to me. I have friends who play on PS4 and some play on Xbox. Let's not kid ourselves that MS has the consumer's best interest at heart. They are trying to keep people from leaving Xbox. If people think Sony is going against their gaming wishes then they are free to buy a competitor's product. This is business. Pure and simple.
