I dare say gamers were having much more fun during the NES or PS2 era (or even the Atari 2600 time). No need for service subscriptions and the games you purchased were a fixed cost. Sure there were bugs but generally, games were released in a better state than most "service" based games are today. You had a physical copy of the game and no need to continue paying. And as this goes to show if you purchase Game Pass or PS now, the price can increase at the platform holder's whim....

I was thinking similarly. It's not like Sony is not going to make changes to their ecosystem too. The key element Sony has going for it now is a large user base which has a significant investment in the current gen platform. If Sony includes backwards compat with PS4 on PS5 then there is likely little reason to jump ship from Sony back to MS. It would preserve their current investment. Players have confidence that Sony won't abandon making great games.

I guess we'll see how much of that revenue MS re-invests in making better 1st party exclusives. I'm not holding my breath though. As for MS using corporate speak, that's fine by me. They are speaking to investors and the like with such statements. But many in the gaming community know that the X1 is a shadow of it's former glory in X360 era. What I see with this era for MS is tons of lost opportunities. They grew revenue but probably left so much more sitting on the table t...

I agree the game needs some work. Maybe even significant work. But articles like this are childish clickbait.

Well I won't rule Bungie out yet on this but it really matters what they produce going forward. It is sure a fact that many people have dropped the game due to some bad decisions on Bungie / Activision. I hope they really fix things but at this point I am skeptical.

MS spends advertising money with IGN. So IGN is going to protect that relationship whether it is in jest or not. IGN also helps push products whether they be from MS, Sony, or anyone else. They make money through advertising and special access to content producers.

@The_jackel. Agreed my OG X1 collects dust. Wish I had not bought that console. I'll try SoD2 with game pass on my PC. I just can't really trust MS with my gaming money. The only thing I can count on with MS is that they will leave me feeling disappointed.

The Pro accomplished what it set to do without alienating a huge existing customer base. MS and it's fans focus on the X is rather a rejection of the OG XBox as a disappointment and encourages existing players to replace the old with the new. And yet fanboys of XBox conveniently chose to forget they may have spent $500 on the OG X1 and then another $500 on the X1X. Whereas OG PS4 owners still have a capable console which was $399 at release. MS is taking their fans for all their money an...

I'll check it out for free on my PC using the 14 day trial of Game Pass. I held off using that pass on Sea of Thieves as SoD2 looked more interesting to me. We shall see...

Well the cynical side of me says yea, I can see the tactic here. Publish review late, buck the trend, get clicks. So had the game scored poorly they would publish a 9.5. Since it scored around 9.5 on many sites, give it a relatively low score compared to the average to get attention. But frankly, it makes no difference. The game is going to sell amazingly well.

The article is merely a click-bait article. Say something outlandish which they known will trigger people to go argue with them about and pump up those clicks for advertisers. I doubt they truly mean what they write. It's just a clickbait.

I know R* gets a pass based on their history. We are leaning a lot on that perhaps rightfully so. However, if they push out a micro transaction riddled SP game that would due major harm to their reputation. I may not purchase it if it was done so poorly. But I don’t really think R* will bloat their SP game with mtx. Now as for the MP game, I do expect a shark card type money making machine. R* should be careful though, as reputations take years to cultivate and very little time to destroy...

MS is risk-averse to a point where they make creative decisions based on business metrics. That's why they had connect, always online, and focus on tv services out the gate. And it's also why the GaaS model appeals to them. Games came second or third. So they finally realize they completely misread the market and it takes years to recover. MS is a business and consumer software and services developer and less so an entertainment company. That is their pedigree. Sony has more roots ...

Why did MS and RARE release the game so hastily if it was known to be lacking in content? Clearly, the suits insisting MS keep a release window to avoid conflict with other titles. I think releasing too soon did more harm than good. They would have been better served to produce more content then release. First impressions last. Will the game improve? I hope so for their sake. If they were gonna release in the state they did then they overcharged for the product.

I am surely a Playstation fan and owner. I also own an X1. My first Xbox ever. I also hope MS improves though. I don't think it serves the gaming world well if they were to exit. Not that I think they are planning an exit. I think the opposite. Although perhaps another company would fill that void if they did. But looking at MS it sometimes feels like they are so risk averse that they make creative decisions based on financial metrics alone. Phil's comment on SP games being risky an...

We shall see what MS promises and what they deliver. I’d be happy to see them bolster their offering with some new / strong first party produced games but that takes years to cultivate. GaaS can’t be your only strategy. A platform holder needs a diverse robust games lineup. At this point it’s Sony who has done the best overall job. MS needs to step up or they’ll risk slowly fading away. I think their customers have been more than patient.

I really liked Pillars of Eternity. I am currently enjoying Divinity OS2. And surely I'll be playing Pillars 2. Both Obsidian and Larian are making really challenging / replayable games.

Well had the game had more content upon release or was delayed to include it then we wouldn't see such damage control articles. It's not that it is a terrible game but it surely underwhelmed. And I agree @septic, I think many are losing interest.

It is a nice feature no doubt. And MS showing some love for 360 titles like RDR recently is sweet. However, I will say it makes me think the X1 is the console which looks more backward than forward. And why this article says the feature doesn't get enough credit is strange. XBox articles are out every week touting some new game added to the backwards compat library. It get's tons of press / credit. It's just not the primary many people bought an X1.

So looking forward to this next week. Corey deserves a nice break to enjoy some quality downtime. As Corey said at the end, "Buy the game. Go play the Game. It's wonderful".
