I honestly can't see Xbox making a comeback at this point, their plans seem pretty clear, and Playstation is having a race to the bottom with them, ideally, another competitor would come to market, but probably won't.
Meanwhile Nintendo is doing it's own thing, and I appreciate it for what it is.
I ended up jumping after the PS4 to PC, I did expect to get a PS5 at some point, but after witnessing how this generation has turned out... I definitely won't be getting a PS5, I've also has a couple of friends move from PS5 to PC.
To be fair, I've read that psychopaths and other people higher on the triple triad traits tend to end up in these higher positions, so it doesn't surprise me that there's a few lunatics in positions of power.
Guardians of the Galaxy had a different issue, being Square-Enix and customers getting burned with the Avengers game... Of course Guardians of the Galaxy was going to be a harder sell than it should have been, but that failure is on Square-Enix's shoulders.
I hope so, it's painful seeing this happen, especially to Playstation, I think we'll have to wait for the remainder of Jim Ryan's plans to play out first though.
I don't even know what's going on anymore, it seems like dumb decisions all around despite clear warning signs, from Microsoft/Sony, from multiple developers, etc... The entire gaming landscape is just baffling at the moment.
@pwnmaster3000
I think I only ever saw one or two ads before Concord released, and even then, I saw more from streamers talking about the game, otherwise it's like this game barely existed, or at least the marketing barely existed.
Exactly, this feels like a race to the bottom, and I'm certainly not happy about that, especially when Playstation has a stack of dormant IPs they can draw from. They really need to course correct, but I feel like they're going to let their current plans play out first.
@Michiel1989,
I'd still argue the PS5 gen is worse, at least the PS3 eventually found it's footing and pumped out the exclusives, I have yet to see the PS5 do the same, there's still time, but I'm not feeling confident at this point.
I honestly don't know why they've benched all these IPs, there are lots of people who would clamour for a new entry from any of them. I already bought some of these games as Playstation Classics on the PS4, I also believe they don't need to spend AAA budgets on them, some of them can easily be done on a AA budget.
I play the Switch for exclusives, having said that, I enjoy both my Switch and Steam Deck immensely, pretty sure Nintendo doesn't think of the handheld PC space as a sector they're competing in.
I'm shocked it only cost $70 mil, I was expecting almost double that figure.
Aren't they adding extra content to 3 as well? It does sound like they already spent more time and money on 3.
Higher ups really need to be held accountable for these screwups, it's amazing that everyone below them pays for their mistakes, while they get rewarded for their crappy choices.
It's not the first time we've heard this, and especially recently, I take it with a grain of salt, but I'm also the type to wait for reviews/reception from external sources.
Nah, it did really badly, probably because people were wary after the garbage that was Avengers, plus Square-Enix did a bad job of marketing it (like they tend to often do these days). It dropped in price pretty quickly if I remember right, because I got it for $30 a few months later.
Unfortunately, it actually was a good game, so it should have done well.
@Toecutter00
Visions of Mana, studio was gutted and shut down on the day the game released, they probably didn't even know how well the game did before they got the boot, every day, I feel like clown world is becoming more of a reality.
This game flopped pretty hard, but I think people are forgetting we've had a lot of bad flops in recent years, we just don't remember them all.
@Hofstaderman,
Idk if they'll can all the remaindering games, companies can be stubborn and plough ahead anyway, but I suppose Playstation doesn't have the money to burn like Xbox does. So maybe they will end the string of GaaS games they have lined up.
This, it's partially corporate greed, trend chasing and trying to trick or nickle and dime customers into spending more, shutting down studios regardless of sales, then they'res the push for ESG/DEI (gamer gate part 2), and spending big AAA budgets that no one wants to buy/play, mostly ignoring AA opportunities... I never thought the industry would implode so spectacularly in the past 4 or 5 years, there's so many issues, I don't blame developers for leaving.
