"Let's face it: the Wii sells on the gimmick alone. It doesn't sell on the strength of its software as that's essentially non-existent..."

Umm, no. The Wii launched with not one, but two killer apps -- Wii Sports for the casual crowd, Twilight Princess for the core crowd. But hey, why bother talking about that? Or the sales of core games like TP and Galaxy and Brawl, in addition to the casual titles like Wii Fit?

As Sidar said, the marketing had to be th...

True. Even though Motion+ was just released, it was introduced at E3 '08. To even get to the announcement last year, it had to be in development for a little while.

If the folks developing LoZ knew this was in the pipeline (but not close to finished form), why bother releasing another Zelda that would have had controlled pretty much like Twilight Princess?

This explains why only concept art was shown at this year's E3, instead of a full-blown trailer. It might tak...

I guess this might have better sales numbers because younger people can buy it (unlike MadWorld)...but I can't say I'm terribly excited for the game.

It'll probably be 6-8 hours of gameplay (like MadWorld), and have no online component (like MadWorld). But it won't have the cool art style or storyline Platinum came up with.

The ex-Clover studio folks know what they're doing. The gameplay may be a bit repetitive, but the rest of the package looks great. I put off buying this, but $20 is a deal that's too good to pass up.

They mention widescreen, unlockables, early order bonuses and the price...but no mention of the controls?

I wouldn't even bother buying the trilogy if Prime 1 and 2 didn't get Corruption's control scheme. For me, that's the selling point...not some commemorative tin.

I consider myself a "core gamer." I don't buy new games every week and play for 6 hours a night, but I put in a few hours per week on good games (and I almost always finish them; I have no idea how so many "hardcore" gamers never bother finishing some good games).

I will never, ever go back to dual analog for a console FPS; after playing Metroid Prime 3, I'm done with analog. IR pointer controls are faster, more precise, and now in a game like Conduit, they'...

4.5 out of 5 would translate to a 90 metascore, and even though I love the Conduit, that's on the high side.

The 75-85 range, give or take a point or two, seems fair.

However, the potential for an "A" game IS there. The graphics tech, customizable controls and online component are all there. HVS put out a good first effort, but hopefully it's just the test run for an even better game to come.

"We may finally have the game that de-rails the on-rails shooter genre."

Well, "de-railing" would be preferable, as that would make the game in first or third person, and...y'know...we could control movements.

If Climax Studios can make what looks to be a rockin' version of Silent Hill for Wii, there's no excuse to follow Capcom's template for taking a franchise and throwing it on rails. Yes, the graphics will look nicer. But that's all. I'll t...

VC seems to overshadow WiiWare, to a certain extent (all of the classic big N games is a hard act to follow). But devs like 2D Boy are doing a LOT with the service. I played the heck out of WoG, and I'm not even a big puzzle game fan. Most people balked when IGN gave Wii GOTY to WoG instead of Brawl, but I agreed with 'em. It's really something special. Can't wait to see what 2D Boy has up next.

"However the debut trailer was revealed this week, while it may be intensely cinematic and show all three games in a great light it doesn’t highlight anything new."

You don't say?

Three games that have already been released on their own, and are just getting special packaging, are showing you gameplay you've already seen?

That's like buying all three Godfather movies and saying "you know, I've already seen Sonny get shot up in that phone b...

Scissor -- Some of the reviewers probably only played the first few levels of Conduit then rated it. But those who invest time in the game aren't going to be disappointed, and they ARE playing. 2 a.m. on Sunday (well, Monday morning) last night, I was still finding full matches online. That says something about the quality of the online gameplay.

"I don't think they replace typical control devices or typical interfaces, but they do definitely augment them. The right games work on the right platforms. They're definitely here to stay and they're definitely cool, and through the accessibility they're bringing more people into gaming."

I agree completely.

Tiger Woods 10 just WORKS with motion controls. It's a better game with them.

After playing Metroid Prime 3, I can't go back to dual ana...

Is Sony in danger of becoming Sega? Heck no. The PS3 will grind on and sell respectively, and the PS2 is still a golden money pit for Sony.

But they did win the last two console gens. If you WERE the market leader for current-gen hardware sales, and now you're in last place, then yes, you HAVE lost market share. Those are the breaks. Nobody gets first place all the time.

How well do FPS games usually sell in the U.K.?

Games on Nintendo hardware that don't start with Mario or Zelda CAN sell well, they just usually do it slower.

NMH was a flop...until it sold well enough to get a sequel.
HOtD:Overkill did well enough to be profitable.
The Wii RE4 edition sold over a million copies.
Same for COD:W@W.
On the DS, GTA:CW was a flop until Rockstar said they were happy with the sales to shut people up (probably about ...

Historically slow summer? Check.
Lack of AAA system sellers? Check.
Recession? Check.
9-year low for the gaming industry? Check.
No price cuts on the horizon? Check.

...do people really need someone to explain why sales are down?

Brian -- 70K sales for little over a week, for a new IP, in the middle of a summer that's relatively AAA-less, during a recession while the gaming industry is at a 9-year low overall...that's not bad at all.

And not many good games? Tiger Woods 10, MadWorld, No More Heroes, Corruption, SMG, Twilight Princess, de Blob, SSBB, Paper Mario, both Boom Bloxes, both Trauma Centers, Little King's Story, best versions of RE4 and Okami, Punch Out, two great Pro Evo Soccers, Mario Kart...w...

"The controls are perfect. If you don’t like the defaults, you can customize them to pretty much exactly what you want. PS3 and Xbox 360 owners can claim their gamepads are just fine for FPS controls, but they’re either lying to themselves or they’ve just never played a good one on the Wii. After The Conduit, you’ll never want to go back to a standard gamepad.

"But the PlayStation and Xbox owners have a better argument against us in that the controls do not make a great...

New? OK, so we'll have Activision stop making Call of Duty, Bungie stop making Halo, RockStar stop making GTA, EA stop making Madden, Ubisoft stop making Prince of Persia, Sony stop making Gran Turismo...on and on and on.

Or we can stop to think about Mario Galaxy actually being a very different, new Mario game because of its novel level design.

And Metroid going from a side-scrolling platformer to a FPS, to now being some sort of third-person action game (maybe wit...
