He played the single player campaign, but I don't see a mention for multi-player at all.
(Just like how the guy for Gamepro didn't even bother playing online.)

IMO, the game's value is about 25% single player, 75% multi-player. So he rated about a quarter of the game. Maybe he'd rave about the controls more if he's pulling off headshots against excellent players online.

That said, the critiques on the art style are legit. There are a few touches that are rea...

I certainly wasn't burned by Conduit...but then again, I didn't have my expectations at AAA level. I thought it'd be a decent shooter, and it fulfilled that expectation.

But Metroid Prime 3 was disappointing (and we'll be able to play the other two updated next month)?
Galaxy?
LoZ:TP?
Brawl?
Tiger Woods 10?
No More Heroes?
de Blob?
MadWorld?
PES '09?
Either Trauma Center?
Battalion Wars 2?
The best versions of RE4...

Anything around the 7.5 to 8.5 range seems pretty fair to me. It seems like some of the lowest scores complain about the controls...and if you can't make fully customizable point-and-shoot IR controls work, that ain't the games fault.

This review does kinda gloss over the art direction, though. HVS put some pretty nice tech into their engine, but some of the locations just look boring.

It's kinda dumb to complain about the grenade motions, then later talk about full customization options that let you map them to a button press.

The art style DOES drag the game down, though. The tech is phenomenal, but some of the levels aren't very inspired.

However, I don't know who this guy was playing online with. Conduit's online competition is BRUTAL, and it's because you have players who have their controls set so tight that they're delivering headshot afte...

Sure, there are some games now that simply could not have been done even a few years ago. It's the same with films, and for every LOTR trilogy, there's a forgettable romantic comedy.

But does LOTR diminish Dr. Strangelove? I don't think so, and the same holds true for games. COD4's graphics and online modes don't make old-school games any less fun. I still try speed runs through Super Metroid.

Someone actually gets paid to say "it's the middle of a recession, there haven't been any significant price cuts and there's a lack of AAA titles this summer...so that's why sales are down."

Gee, ya think?

GTA4 is a phenomenal game. But no matter what, every other GTA game will now be in the shadow of GTA3, just like every Zelda game is in the shadow of OoT.

It isn't fair, but playing games like those in 3D for the first time is a "holy $%!*!" moment. OoT and GTA3 redefined what games can do.

And it'll take something really special to move the franchises on to their next big stepping stone. The Resident Evil series got stale until RE4...and now every subse...

The Wii is successful because it focused on being fun and inclusive over the graphics wars.

I don't want to sleight the PS3 or 360, because they do have a lot more than just FPS games (and honestly, if you want the absolute best controls with the absolute best graphics, you'll be playing a select few shooters on a high-end PC), and you can't play GTA IV or Elder Scrolls IV on Wii. But look at some of the meta scores -- the 360 has Bioshock, Orange Box, both Gears of War, COD4, H...

I don't think I've ever seen a game get such a wide range of reviews.

This one actually praises the story, where 90% of the rest say it sucks.

But what's with everyone ragging on the single player's length? You could beat COD4 on a long lunch break.

Plus, yeah, core gamers with 360/PS3 have a lot of great shooters. But they don't have one that controls this good. Conduit's online competition is brutal because of it -- you have to worry about head shot...

Same here. I've been playing the heck out of MM and finishing up World of Goo. There is some great stuff on VC and Wii Ware.

But I think there's plenty of great stuff on Wii. At least four or five times that I've been in Gamestop, I've heard people say "Yeah, Zelda is good, but that's it...and I should really go back and beat that, now that I'm thinking of it." There are actually people that didn't beat the AAA title that launched with Wii, and then they complain ab...

Red Steel 2 looks AAA. And if it doesn't deliver at that level, it's going to be a big, big disappointment. Ubi is getting a do-over here, and if they screw it up...

The reason I'm a boxing fan is Gatti/Ward I.

Sure, I'd watched boxing before, but that transcended the sport. One of the greatest fights ever caught on tape. If you haven't seen it, make sure to at least check out round 9 on youtube.

RIP Thunder. We don't see heart like that in the ring very often.

Raiin -- As long as Wii is selling at a brisk enough pace, there really isn't any incentive for Nintendo to drop its price.

Sony is in the toughest spot. They have the priciest console, and despite some drops, it's still too expensive. If you can live without Blu-ray, you can buy a 360 (with comparable, but not better, graphics) for half the price, and play the big guns like GTAIV, Modern Warfare and Halo 3.

Ninty has to have some guideline to go by for the series' plot. But to me, it's not like it matters that much. If LoZ:TP happens 100 years after certain events in one timeline or the other is irrelevant to me enjoying a well-crafted game with a decent story. If only TP hadn't used Gannon and stuck with Zant...

Gee, consoles that have been out a few years, cost a few hundred dollars, are in a AAA-game summer dry spell (lets hear it for...Call of Jaurez and inFAMOUS?), and are competing in the middle of a recession have their sales slowing down?

Imagine that.

Cherry -- You can shrink the dead zone to nothing more than a speck. It's as close as you can get to a mouse/keyboard without booting up your PC. And that setup is still tops, IMO, but the remote/nunchuck is next best. Diff'rent strokes and all of that, but IR pointer controls are way faster and more precise than any dual analog setup I've ever played.

Just my $0.02.

(And this is why negative reviews that rag on the controls of this game have legs. Anyone who has...

I have a Wii, PS2 and a (aging faster everyday) PC. Most FPS games ARE generic (plot-wise, gameplay-wise). Bioshock is the best this gen, but it's an exception, IMO.

Critiques on the level layout, art design, repetitive enemies...that is fair game.

But the controls? Complaining about a fully customizable layout (and giving it as a main reason for a low score) is beyond stupid. If you're having trouble with the controls, that's not the game...that's the player. P...

Arius -- There are some moments in SMG that made me go "wow, the Wii can do this?" but I pretty much felt that way through MOST of Corruption. Once you get to Bryyo, the game truly takes off. There may be higher poloygon counts and greater resolution on other consoles, but there isn't any better art direction than what you'll find at Retro.

phosphor -- I had the opposite experience. I made a few tweaks throughout the single player (shrunk the bounding box down, mappe...

Yeah, it doesn't get much more intuitive than "point remote, shoot there."

IMO, a keyboard/mouse still has an edge for long range shooting (but barely), but there's no way I can go back to dual analog for preferred FPS control. The remote/nunchuck is faster and more precise, period. But as Schnazzy said, next gen control isn't for everyone...

And I'd take Samus...so long as she's in the PED suit from Metroid Prime 3.
