Agreed, and well put. Conduit's graphics are decent enough, but I don't think they even surpass Metroid Prime 3.

But the controls are a new standard for console FPS, as far as I'm concerned. It beats the living heck out of dual analog, and that's why I kinda chuckle when I read reviews like this talking about "doomed" and "botched" controls.

If the controls are "botched" or "doomed," it's the player, not the game. The game l...

Mastiff is right. RPG and FPS fans are very different demographics.

I don't see how anyone could begrudge the success of Conduit. Sega has been trying to break a core game this year, and they may have pulled it off. Plus, this game is THE standard for Wii online and FPS control. If you're gonna make a Wii FPS now, you better have your crap together. Those are big pluses, in my book.

HVS kinda looks like they went for a meat and potatoes game. Their next release...

Yeah, speculation and guesswork is a big part of this place. But VGC does alright. They adjust their data all the time. As long as they're in the ballpark, no biggie (IMO).

It'll depend on Natal's price point, IMO. If it costs an arm and a leg, they'll be putting the price of a 360 (or Microsoft's next console) plus Natal at -- or above -- the PS3. They'll move some within the established install base, that's a given. But how many more buyers do you bring in with a steep price point?

Plus, look how long it has taken to get motion controls right on the Wii. It's still a work in progress, really, but we're finally seeing third parties crack FPS co...

I think NOOBKILLA has a point. Much like the DS is still selling despite a revised product being out, the next Ninty console will allow 'em to drop the regular Wii down to a bargain basement price, plus move forward with a console that lets them get into HD.

That said, NOT playing into the graphics wars is what has helped Nintendo be successful this gen. So who knows?

Yeah, the open world was a good idea, but it was poorly implemented and executed in the first game (although it was kind of an unintentional satire of sandbox games).

A smaller size should help with the pop-in, and more variety can't be anything but an improvement. But if they're bringing back the Schpeltiger, Grasshopper better do something about the collision detection. It was kind of amusing (with just how bad it was), but it really made driving a chore.

If Suda...

I really like the game, but even I think that's a little high (there was one other review that would've translated to a 9, too). However, it's understandable where the reviewer is coming from -- third parties don't have any more excuses for shoddy-looking ports with tacked on waggle. HVS embarrassed a lot of bigger dev teams, and for that, they deserve props.

But I agree with the part about Conduit's plot. Too many reviewers got stuck on that meme, while the standard "hu...

Nice...but honestly, I'm more interested in seeing how Grasshopper plans on fixing the open world/sandbox aspect of the game. We already know it'll have a cool, weird plot, and we already know Suda and co. came up with a good control scheme and art style. I wanna see the bugs get worked out.

Still, day one purchase for me.

Smack -- Desperate Struggle isn't even scheduled to release until 2010. By that time, the original will be 2 years old. Grasshopper is NOT that big an outfit, so why would they spend their resources on porting old games (that are profitable cult favs, not blockbusters), when Suda wants to be working with Natal?

The Hitman Trilogy is tempting me.

Might pick up de Blob, too.

Some brand loyalty is due to quality, I think. If you love Zelda, you'll trust Nintendo to make one each gen that makes purchasing the Big N console worthwhile.

And you can't deny genre preference, either. The N64 was the FPS king before Halo blew up on X Box. Games are a "what have you done for me lately?" industry (just ask Nintendo, Sony, Sega, Atari, etc.). And some people are just going to rag on something they view as inferior.

Me? I'm happy with...

This is one of the only reviews I can think of that actually praises the plot and lists it as a positive.

75-85 range seems to be about right, IMO. The graphics and gameplay mechanics are there, but the level design and art style aren't quite there.

Spoony -- RE4 Wii is, by far, the best version of the game (and as you say, the best of the best; it's an all-timer). But Capcom hasn't shown any interest in making another third-person RE for Wii. Even with RE4, they couldn't be bothered to do anything but a straight port, plus IR. It seems like we'll get rail shooters from them, and that's all.

For a horror fix, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories looks like the best game in town.

The Conduit is a fairly good-looking game, IMO.

Yes, the art style is generic. But the most obvious things -- the guns, player's hands, enemies, lighting and water effects -- all look VERY good in Conduit. It's the locales themselves that look drab and knock the game down a bit. But the tech is all there. Give Retro studios the Quantum 3 engine and turn 'em loose, and I'd bet you'd get one hell of a pretty game.

“Hypothetically speaking, the Resident Evil 4 engine would work perfectly for replicating the gameplay but we would never be able to recreate the graphical quality” Kawata explained. “A gun shooting game like Darkside Chronicles makes much more sense for Wii so, in short, Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition isn’t likely to happen.”

It's not likely to happen, period.

The headline ought to be "hypothetically possible, but unlikely." But hey, who wants to be accurate...

Heh, that's true.

"Our game looks like hell, but plays OK. You should buy it!"

Not a good marketing strategy.

But it looks like Ubi learned their lesson after the first one. Generally, super-realism isn't the way to go on Wii. NMH looked very basic, but the controls worked well enough to give it legs. As long as Red Steel 2 uses Motion+ well, they should have a decent seller on their hands.

Complaints about recycled corridors, generic plot and not enough enemy variety are completely legit.

Complaints about the single-player game length are b.s. (you could blast through COD4 in six hours or less).

The complaint about dumb enemy AI is iffy. Yes, the humans are pretty dumb. But the difficulty ramps up with the Drudge...and they even showed 'em ducking for cover in that clip.

And the "it's THE shooter" on Wii thing? Guys, it's call...

There's plenty of shooting in Metroid Prime 3, and it came out long before Conduit.

What's with the "at my age" comment? If you're an old school gamer, odds are you still play the original Mario Bros. from time to time (or Doom, or UT, or Quake if you're shooter-centric). Great gameplay trumps all, and despite the Conduit's flaws, it has the best controls of any console FPS ever released. I'll take that over a higher polygon count any day of the week.
