Funny, I haven't had any more trouble playing online with Conduit than I have with any other game.
...maybe that's because I'm actually playing it, while you're just trying to rile people up?
When I visit most of my friends houses, they still have SD tube TV's. I think there's validity in this particular POV -- it's not that HD isn't the new standard, it's that it hasn't been adopted at light speed (the same goes for Blu-ray).
It's also the reason we probably WILL see a new Wii sooner rather than later, because HDTV prices have been coming down.
Not a bad list, but I would've put Retro much higher.
...and why is their clip Other M? Team Ninja is working on that.
RE4 was kind of considered a "reboot" for the series when it was released.
It's not like the series needs to be totally re-imagined. They got the balance right in 4, but 5 became more of a third-person shooter, and less about survival, horror or managing your supplies. Just scale back the shooting, and quit trying to make the game like an action movie.
And please...no more rail shooters on the Wii. The RE4 Wii edition was the absolute BEST version of tha...
My apologies, Gameswire. I get what you mean. Someone who is newer to gaming, and is a more "casual" gamer, will probably get drawn to certain Nintendo franchises. Mario isn't going to intimidate people picking up the game in a store to think, "this will be way too hard for me."
(The gameplay challenges are there, but the game's mechanics make it a pick up and play experience, and the visuals mirror that.)
OTOH, someone who is new to console ga...
Gameswire -- I've never understood the "kid look" equaling "not for core gamers" point of view. SMG had some devilishly challenging stuff. Adventure games like Wind Waker and Okami don't have photo realistic graphics, but they're for core gamers. Eye-candy rich FPS games aren't the only "hardcore" games out there.
I think it has more to do with established IP's. Mario, Zelda, Metroid...all established.
Resident Evil and Call of Duty?...
If Epic doesn't want to take part in making any games for Wii, fine.
But I'm tired about hearing the arguments that "core games don't sell on Wii." Ones with effort put in do. There's a reason Nintendo's own core titles (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Smash Bros, Kart, Punch Out, Wario) sell well -- they're polished, and almost always AAA-level.
Tiger Woods 10 is selling well now. RE4 sold well (as did RE:UC). Boom Blox sold well enough to spawn a sequel. So d...
Pachter just repeats this type of stuff over and over, because sooner or later, he'll be right. Nintendo will cut the price of the Wii at SOME point. Why stating the obvious makes this guy a credible analyst is anyone's guess, though.
The first-party software comment is kinda funny, though. Without a new Mario, Zelda, Metroid, SSBB, Kart...ummm...yeah, I'd expect first-party sales to be down. The big guns have either been shot, or Nintendo is reloading them.
Sometimes the cheats just ruin the experience. I've been playing Conduit online, and as fun as it can be...it's also frustrating to play against someone who has unlocked some invulnerability cheat (c'mon, 14 straight head shots through a scoped gun has a pretty high fatality rate).
The other thing to consider with Nintendo is that their core franchises aren't really multiplayer friendly. Zelda and Mario aren't centered around player vs. player-type stuff like FPS games. Even M...
If you want to brawl online, buy Brawl.
This game isn't going to be online-centric, and neither were MadWorld or No More Heroes (the Wii's other two great 3rd party brawlers).
I think it's kinda interesting that one of the things he points to -- "casual" fitness titles -- already has third party success on Wii. EA seems to be happy:

But anywho...Nintendo does own this gen for hardware sales. That's not something in doubt here. Success of third parties is another matter, and Nintendo has always had big-time success with their fir...
I sunk at least 70 hours into Twilight Princess.
The only pain it will cause a developer is if they insist on treating the console as a PS3 or 360. It's cheaper to develop for the Wii, and the bottom line does matter to those footing the bill.
Ragging on Nintendo for making Mario, Zelda and Metroid is lame.
No one says "Bungie should stop making Halo, Activision should stop making COD, Sony should stop making God of War and Gran Turismo, RockStar should stop making GTA," do they? No. The reason Zelda has stayed a big-time favorite is because the games have delivered.
Now, on to this little nugget:
"The Wii has very few gems..."
OK, so have you beat Galaxy, Ti...
Dude, why bother talking sense?
People look at sales, and nothing else. No one seems to want to consider the price of making a game in the first place (or the price of the huge marketing blitz for a game like Halo 3).
No More Heroes was a "flop." Not sure of the hard sales data, but VGChartz puts it at about 400K copies. Consider how small the dev team was for it, and how little the cost must have been to make it. The profit margin on it is probably ver...
I agree with the author. Last gen, I was a GTA addict. I bought, played and beat each one released for the PS2 (even the PSP ports of LCS and VCS). NFS:U and Midnight Club were probably next on the list.
But now? I still play my PS2 from time to time, but I spend more time on my Wii. Before Conduit, I was playing a lot of World of Goo. A "casual game" done well is still a good game. I'm enjoying playing online FPS right now, but I could go back and play Boom Blox...
Putting all of Sony's eggs in one basket -- PS3, PS2, PSP, first-party titles -- certainly makes their situation look a lot better.
But if we're talking about the number of CURRENT gen systems being sold, then no, NPD isn't getting paid off to put Sony in last place. The fact is, the PS3's total sales aren't greater than its competitors.

Agreed. Play the whole thing. Getting paid to play a video game is a pretty nice job. If you get a week to play Zelda or GTA, be happy, get a lot of coffee, and enjoy a few long nights. If the worst thing that happens is that you get stuck in the water temple for a night, there are far worse jobs to have.
The Conduit is the most recent example of "WTF?" reviewing. Too many reviewers obviously didn't finish the single player, and a few either didn't play it online o...
"This generation, Sony has become much more reliant on the prospect of first-party offerings to bring in the gamers. Uncharted, InFamous, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, two Resistance titles, Ratchet and Clank, etc, have become the mainstay titles to the PS3."
...and God of War, of course.
There are holes throughout the article, but that part isn't one of them. It IS interesting that Sony is now taking this approach, while Nintendo gets ragged on endlessly f...
Raiinstorm81 -- Exactly. Great graphics didn't save RE5 from mediocrity.
I'll gladly take RE4-like visuals and gameplay over a slightly prettier rail shooter.
