I agree that Dark Souls is a very different type of RPG, but there is more to it than level up mechanics. Your actions or lack there of determine the fate of several npcs and you get to choose between two drastically different endings that change the game world in significant ways. That's more of a role playing experience than Skyrim.
You would think that that money could be used to produce some type of product for their new console. Maybe a hot new interactive app. There is this one from a few years back with a rotund Italian plumber that jumps on mushroom shaped monsters. As I recall the company who came up with this unique idea managed to sell quite a few consoles. Maybe Microsoft could do something like that with its money.
Why are you waiting for a Series X to play gamepass? It's like 95 percent third party shovelware from two console generations ago. You can play it on a moderately priced PC. Hell, an android tablet can probably run most of it.
@ ApocalypseShadow This is because we now have entire ecosystem of youtubers and essayists (the term journalist does not apply here) who exist only to aggravate the vast majority of gamers (i.e. Sony customers) for clicks.
Dark Souls and Witcher 2 both released in 2011. Classic or not, Skyrim was the third best rpg to release that year.
@jukins Remember the Elder Scrolls 6 is a 2026 release at the earliest (It won't even start full development until Starfield's DLC has dropped). That means that once the series went online the next single player entry will have taken almost 15 years to roll out. That's just sad. I get that devs don't want to work on the same IP forever but a better solution would be to have other developers create New Vegas like entries while we wait an almost an entire generation (human not c...
It will break the series if it succeeds. Let’s look at the last time we got a proper sequel to Warcraft or Elder Scrolls once they released the online multiplayer game. Sure. If it’s good and people enjoy it good for them. It will still be the last entry in the series.
It will break it. Once a series goes multiplayer live service it is basically on life support. The devs will continue to extract enough money from the 10-20 percent of customers that don’t really care how good the experience is and we won’t see another normal single player campaign again.
It needs to be buried is what it needs.
That remains to be seen. I personally would love to see Microsoft broker a deal between the two publishers to put Fallout back in the hands of competent developers again, but it might be a bad idea for Phil to even try. Microsoft wants to keep these newly bought studios happy. They have publicly stated that they won't interfere and force projects on their new studios.
I also can't really see a scenario where both Todd Howard and Tim Kane leave the negotiating table ...
This thread has been absolutely amazing for this. I didn't realize people were this stupid. It's like when everyone freaked out about how the new star trek show was too progressive. How did they not notice the themes of the original? I'm not even mad. I have some popcorn and I'm just gonna watch these mouth breathers let it all out.
Did you fail to pick up on this in the original game? You start the game as an eco-terrorist blowing up power plants to make a statement. If anything the remake has dumbed it down. Just chill out, there will be plenty of opportunity to gun down foreigners in the next Call of Duty. The industry has you covered.
My god. How is it that so many people on this forum missed the message about Shinra and the dangers of capitalism left unchecked. I mean... it's not like any of this was subtle back in 1997.
This is going to blow your mind, but Mako... stick with me here... is a metaphor for oil. But your probably right, the original wasn't really saying anything.
We currently have no standard for upgrades. Why is it 10 dollars for Ghost, 40 for the control ultimate edition, and zero for FFVII integrade?
I get that third party publishers aren’t going to do things like add ray tracing for free, but we should expect a standardized approach to all of this.
It offers really good value right now. My main concern is that once Microsoft gains a certain level of success the price will either skyrocket or the service will become very poor. Think about Netflix ten years ago versus Netflix now.
Exactly. If one publisher controls all these developers then it stands to reason that the release of rpgs will slow down. Let's say for example that Outer Worlds 2 and Starfield are ready for release at the same time (I know they aren't but for the sake of argument). Microsoft would probably have to delay one of them so that it wouldn't steal attention from each other. If they were competitors we could almost expect them to release at the same time because the studios would want t...
The Final Fantasy VII example is interesting. My guess is the same thing would have happened to Integrade if it had released on Game Pass. That was Square Enix trying to squeeze more money out of everyone tricking people in to buying what would normally be a free upgrade. Some of what we are seeing is just third party publisher greed and manipulation. Look at Control ultimate edition. Publishers in general are trying to figure out what they can get away with this gen.
"All of EAs games" lol
Well, are these actions mutually exclusive?
