I've said it b3fore ajd I'll say it again, the hardcore game industry has shifted to the Occident, and it's the best thing that could have happened. Japan has become to insular (no pun intended) with their gaming, catering to thekselves and no one else, and there is a serious creative drought there.
I'm betting not even Nintendo is placing any priority on Japqn, the rest of the world is an oyster.
This won't end the XB1, but it COULD sway a lot of people who were on the fence to side with the PS4 out of disgust with Microsoft's handling of the situation. I would NOT like to be part of Microsoft's PR people right now, cause it must be a NIGHTMARE to try to spin good out of the amount of blunders, bad decisions and plain old abusive practices they've been throwing players' way for the last year.
This is not bitching, it's rightfully pointing out dishonest business practices that hurt a good amount of consumers. I'm not gonna take issue with Microsoft for the timed exclusivity cause they've been doing that crap for years now, but I DO take issue with them not being honest and making it seem like it was a full exclusive just to sell systems. Imagine the insane clusterfuck this'd have been if Microsoft fessed up to the timed exclusivity AFTER the game had come out, they&...
Not gonna happen. Just from the fact that the original Demon's Souls was a PS3 exclusive, the Souls franchise overall is associated and has it's largest number and most hardcore fans on the Sony platforms. Kind of like the Tekken series, which is another Bandai Namco franchise that's multiplat, but associated with the Sony platforms. Bandai Namco would not lose out on so much revenue by making Dark Solus 3 exclusive for XB1.
Agreed. And historically, whenever their new console comes out, Sony will still support the previous one for a while, instead of just killing it immediately. There's still a sizable number of games coming out for PS3, and at its current price and library, it's a hell of a good investment.
Yeah, it's not like Sony has more exclusives and new IPs on a bigger variety of genres than any other consoles *rolls eyes*. This is crap, Uncharted is a modern classic franchise and releasing it for PS4 won't take away from anyone else, it'll just give us a new iteration of a classic franchise on the newest system.
I hesitate on the kiddie label for Nintendo, since the lack of hardcore games on the Wii-U is more from developers shunning the system than Nintendo trying to maintain a kid-friendly image, though Nintendo IS the more family-oriented company. The Sony/Microsoft hardcore/casual label's pretty accurate, though. Sony is just being much more faithful to their console as a GAMING console than Microsoft is, and it's paying handsomely for them.
I'm not throwing any hate LOTF's way, but it's a new IP from a developer that haven't really made ANYTHING, and they're trying to compete with THE sleeper hit cult franchise. It's also published by Bandai Namco, which is weird since they're the publishers f the Dark Souls games, and the game was originally meant to be on PS3 and 360 but got bumped a gen, which can often be bad news.
I WANT this to be good, cause it's nice to have variety and ch...
@Godmars290 They did, but when it came time to make the game, SquareSoft asked Nintendo to make the N64 optical based, since tbe game wouldn't be able to be made on cartridge, and Nintendo said no. Then they asked about an optical drive to be made later and they again said no. That's when they approached Sony to make it, and the rest is history. Funny thing, the N64 eventually DID have an optical drive, but that did so horribly that it never left Japan.
The FF7 example is a bad one. SquareSoft tried to release FF7 on Nintendo systems first, and they were shot down by Nintendo's back-then draconian policies and bullying, the same policies and bullying that led to the creation of the Playstation in the first place after Nintendo betrayed Sony when they went with Phillips to make their optical drives. Which never got released, BTW, while Sony took the optical drives that they had already made for Nintendo, refitted them as a standalone cons...
One thing that Microsoft needs to get in their head is that part of the reason so many indies side with Sony over MS is that they LIKE to work with Sony. With the parity clause and all the XBox Live publishing restrictions, MS rub a lot of small studios the wrong way, while Sony gives them more freedom of publishing, less pressure and restrictions and lots of exposure. I'm positive that MS has a LOT more money to throw around than Sony, but Sony also uses good faith as currency, and that ...
@Sevir
"Uncharted is a massive elephant of an IP, and its bound to sell bucket loads more now, given its PS4 exclusive and the Uncharted Fan base has migrated to said platform as well as having Xbox and Wii owners who never played Uncharted before. "
True that. And don't be surprised if Sony actually does release a remasters bundle of the PS3 Uncharted games close to the fourth one's release, which would mean the players who jumped ship from...
Hey, credit where it's due, the last Tomb Raider was an awesome game, it certainly holds its own against Uncharted. Hell, I actually like it a little more, since it's a more open game with much more exploration. Uncharted is awesome, always will be, but it's also undeniably very linear.
The most expensive game ever made so far was Grand Theft Auto 5 at $265 million. That means Microsoft wasted $85 million more than the most expensive game ever on advertising a peripheral practically no-one wants. And then they ask why the investors are pushing to close the XBox division so hard. The amount of indies and AAA titles you could make with that money Microsoft invested on trivial non-gaming content and timed exclusivity is staggering.
Hell, I find the timed exclus...
You know, maybe if they threw that exclusivity budget at a developer to actually fund a game being made instead of trying to steal away games from other systems, Microsoft would have their Uncharted-like adventure game by now.
@Drithe Man, you're a dumbass. Robin Williams had a deep emotional connection with the Zelda franchise, even naming his daughter Zelda. The game was a way to bond with his daughter, and who knows how many nights while he was in a bad way he cheered up by sinking a few hours into the game. Nintendo thanking Robin with a tribute is not a moneygrab, it's thanking an awesome performer for actually making their game a big part of his life. It'd be like Michael Mamaril being added as a ...
@Hellsvacancy: Yep, and he was quick to point out that she isn't named after the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald, she's named after the PRINCESS. RW was a big fan of the original back in the 80s, and even did a series of commercials with his daughter talking about what LOZ meant tot them, very heartwarming cute stuff.
@hay: Oh, come on, the only thing Nintendo needs to do is put a small screen before the game starts that says "In memoriam: Robin Williams". They could literally program that in in less than a minute, yet it'd mean so much to so many people. And pragmatically, cynically speaking, it'd be a great PR move.
@gaffyh While it IS annoying that Bayonetta 2 is Wii-U exclusive, that one at least is understandable because Nintendo actually put money down for the game to get made, they didn't throw the money at Platinum to make an already-coming game exclusive. As for Sony, as far as I can recall, the only non-exclusive franchise that they had an exclusive game for was Metal Gear Solid 4, and that was more because of technical issues, since the game depended heavily on the Blu-Ray format, which the ...
I'll never have a problem with a game being delayed if it's to guarantee that it'll be as close to perfect as possible when it comes out. I'd rather have that than have pressure on the developers to launch early and release a buggy unplayable mess *cough* Battlefield 4! *cough*
Within reason, of course, since sometimes delaying it TOO much can have the same effect as releasing it too early. See Daikatana and Duke Nukem Forever, for example. And I don't wan...
