I havent owned a Nintendo game system since I bought my NES in the mid 80's (not counting a Game Boy in 90'), but I have to give props when they are due.
I still think the PS2 will edge it out though, but im sure its safe to say 1st and 2nd place will be PS2 and NES or vice versa.

1) No, the UK isnt Europe.Its just the single largest home console market now after North America.
2) Japan has almost become a afterthought for home console sales.Might as well be claiming a big "W" in Iceland (no offense to anyone there of course). Even the Wii has a relatively slow showing there.

Ive had casual thoughts on buying a PS3 so ive been lurking at a few articles from the PS3 section. Ive noticed two things:
1) Xbox fans dont seem to gather there and spread discontent at nearly the level ive witnessed when positive 360 articles pop up.Naturally articles mentioning BOTH systems can, but im not refering to them.
2) They dont seem to mind letting each other know about the problems they have had with their PS3's like this Yellow light of death or whatever it was ca...

Since last year,me and my best friend still play a few splitscreen levels at least once a week.Ocasionally we go on LIVE too (usually not so we can pause whenever to make more drinks).
I dont know if its the best game ever made (it ranks very high to me personally), but I certainly got my 50 bucks out of it.
Its just fun and after all the times we have played it,the AI still manages to throw u a curve.

I think some of the responses here are silly.Both companies are setting their pricing positions NOW to prepare for the holiday season. Does it really make one more of a "hero" over the other because they did it a week earlier?
Why did the PS3 even have to drop? Because Sony loves you?? Why is this being touted as a "relaunch" by some with the slim? Because the PS3 is currently the #1 gaming console so they should try a "do over" for the hell of it????

I dunno..A overated game to me is somthing everyone waits for, it has real strong initial sales,then it falls off the map. Im not a Halo 3 fan (I own it and never finished it), but after years now the game STILL isnt in a $9.95 bargain bin? That tells me it cant be but so overrated!

I dont understand the fascination here with a slimmer/sleeker/lighter versions of a game console. If I based my system purchase decision soley on that, I guess I would have bought a PS3.
Its not like any of these game systems are the size of washing machines even in their "original dimensions".

Well lets examine the points you wrote of the PS3 in defense:
1) Blu Ray player. Yes but the PS2 was alot of peoples first DVD player (was my second). A Blu Ray now is just a evolution of that same formula correct?
2)Wifi wireless controllers. OK.I have wireless controllers for my PS2 and have had them forever.No they arent Bluetooth,but they work just fine.Again its evolution of the same formula.
3) Backwards compatibilty. Like the 360? Atari 5200...
